PATENT ROLL-PAPER HOLDER AND CUTTER.
SPECIFICATION fcrming part of Letters Patent No. 301,596, dated July 8, 1884. Application filed lil'aroh 31, 1884. (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, RICHARD \V. Hornnvo, a citizen of the United States, residing at St. Louis, in the State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Roll- PaperHolders and Cutters; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and'exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to means for supporting and paying off roll, wrapping, or other paper; and its object is to provide means by which such paper may be used and handled in a convenient way, and by which any length of strip required may be torn or cut from the roll.
It consists, first, in the combination of a hanger or bracket and a spring-yoke, said yoke being adapted to spring into and carry a solid core or roller, upon which is mounted a roll of paper.
It consists, second,'in the combination, with a roll of paper, of a hanger or bracket and a spring-knife. i
It consists, third, inthe combination, with a roll of paper, of a hanger or bracket, aspringyoke orholding device,andaspring-kniie, the knife being so adjusted as to hug or press against the side of the roll whatever be its I size.
It consists, fourth, in a roll-paper holder I provided with a knife whose ends are bent inwardly to act as guides for the paper as it is unrolled.-
It consist, fifth, in the combination, with a holder or bracket, of a knife yoke or carrier having springs so adjusted as to keep the knife to its work.
It consists, sixth, in the combination, in a roll-paper holder, of a bracket orhanger, a spring-yoke connectedwithsaidhanger at one end and loosely inserted in the ends of a roller or core which carries the paper, a knife connected with the bracket or hanger by means of a knife-yoke, and means for keeping the knife against the side of the roll. Y
In the drawings, Figure l is a front elevation of my device, and Fig. 2 is an end elevation of the same.
A represents the roll of paper, suspended or projected from the hanger or bracket B by means of the yoke G. This yoke is preferably of one piece, and passes through a hole or slot in the block B, and having its arms bent to form a spring and its ends curved to pass ashort distance into the roller or core G,thus suspending the roll and allowing it to turn freely on the ends of the yoke.
D is ablade, having its ends d bent at right angles, so as to guide the paper when it is unrolled, in order that it may be cut straight. The knife is connected with the bracket B by means of the knife-yoke D, made preferably of one piece, and passing through eyes or staples I), driven into the bracket. The ends of this yoke are riveted'to the knife, as shown. d d are two coil-springs wound on the knife-y0kc, as shown. They are arrangedso as to continually exert their force in pressing the knife against the roll.
By my invention the paper is easily and conveniently handled, and any size, or rather any length, of sheet may be torn or out off by laying hold of the loose end and pulling it across the knife-edge in the well-known way, the bent ends of the knife holding the paper true and insuring a straight cut.
It is obvious that the bracket may be bolted to or suspended from the underside of counters, shelving, or other fixtures; or it may be fastened against the wall, in which case the roll would project at right angles to the wall, and braces or shoulders would have to be provided on the bracket or hanger for the purpose of supporting or keeping the spring-yoke horizontal, as shown in the modification of the block B at I).
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new 1. In a rollpaper holder, the combination of a hanger or bracket and a spring-yoke, such as described, the yoke being adapted to spring into and carry a roller upon which is rolled the paper, as specified.
2. The combination, in a roll-paper hoider, of a hanger or bracket and a spring-knife, substantially as set forth.
3. The combination of a hanger or bracket, a spring-yoke or holding device, and aspringknife adapted to continuallypress against the side of the roll.
4. In a roll-paper holder, a knifehaving its ends bent, as described, and for the purpose set forth.
5. In a roll-paper holder, a knife-carrier or 5 yoke, substantially such as described-,provided with means for keeping the knife to its Work.
6. In a roll-paper ho1der,the following c0mbination: a bracket or hanger, a spring-yoke rigidly connected with said hanger at one end,
10 and adapted to be loosely insertedin the ends of a roller or core which carries the paper at the other end, a knife connected with the bracket or hanger by means of aknife-yoke, and means for keeping the knife to its work against the side of the roll. 15
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I hereunto affix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
