Description

NOV- 21, 1961 MAsAlcHl HoRl 3,009,162
BALLooN CAP Filed Nov. 4, 1957 www? SYMZZQ ATTORNEY Unite States Patent fiee atented Nov. 2l, 1961 The present invention relates to a balloon cap cornprising a cap of a conventional shape and an inflatable balloon attached thereto.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a balloon cap as a means for advertising land creation of attention having a distinctive shape in the inflated condition of the balloon and simultaneously providing advertising space thereon. i l
Another object of the present invention is to provide a balloon cap which can be used as a toy for children or as -a fancy cap for a masquerade and the like, the balloon part of the cap being formed into the shape of an animal, doll, flower and similar, when inflated.
It is further an object of the present invention to pro- 'vide a balloon cap for a toy, advertising, masquerade and other purposes, having means for detachable `attachment to the balloon of suitable accessories, such as a simulated pole antenna, or a replica of a satellite.
ther objects and ladvantages of the invention will hereinafter become more fully apparent from the following description of the annexed drawings, which illustrate a preferred embodiment, and wherein:
Y FIG. 1 is a side View of a balloon cap, partly in section, *with ,the balloon in uninfiated condition.
2 is the same with the balloon inflated.
FIG; 3 is a side view of the balloon cap' with accesseries attached thereto.
FIG; 4 is la :magnied section showing a detail of attachmentA of the balloon to the cap.
FIG. 5 is a vertical section of a suction cup shown in FIG. 3.
Like references denote like parts throughout the sev- 'eral views. In the drawings, a skull cap 1, made of cardboard, or similar rigid material is suitably shaped to cover and to conform to the human skull, A hat Aband 2 the outer periphery of the cap 1 serves as a means of attaching a balloon 4 to the cap 1 with a layer of cement 3. The balloon 4 is shown preshaped into 'a hemisphere may however, have the shape of as an animal, doll, flower and the like when it is inflated.4 As 'shown in FIG. 4, the balloon may be pasted to the skullcap, and: the band 2 may be pasted on the outer periphery of the oap and over the outer periphery of the balloon to join them rigidly as illustrated in'FIG. 4, by any conventional means. Since the skull-cap and the band both 'are rigidly attached, the balloon may be inflated only upwardly and sidewards. An- Iair-supplyfpipe 5 of the balloon is shown mounted inside on the side of the cap. A suction cup 6 is shown of rubber or other elastic material having a projection 8 at its center, with means 7 to hold accessories 10. The suction cup 6 may easily and securely be attached to the balloon the inflated condition thereof by pushing it against the convex surface of the balloon 'and is provided with tongue 9 to separate it by pulling the same off. An accessory 10 such as the simulated lantenna is shown inserted into the hole 7 of the suction cup 6.
The balloon cap- Iaccording to the present invention normally, when not inflated has the shape of an ordinary oap as shown in FIG. l. The inflated balloon with the balloon cap form a predetermined characteristic shape attracting attention -as a toy for children, as a fancy cap forf a masquerade, or `as advertising means by carrying printing or other type texts and/ or designs.
Various accessories may be attached to the balloon and easily removed and the balloon cap may be restored to its conventional shape by letting the -air out.
Havingthus described an embodiment of the present invention, it is obvious that the same is not to be restricted thereto, but is intended to cover all structures coming within the scope of the annexed claims. In these claims, all terms and expressions relate to or define the article .as it exists in the deflated condition, and the claims should be so read and interpreted.
What is claimed is:
1. An article of headwear comprising a one-piece cap g of rigid material conforming generally to and fitting over the skull of a wearer and having a continuous lower edge extending thereaboun a one-piece inflatable rubber balloon element fitting over and about said cap and having a first half thereof telescoped Within the other half to dene a peripheral fold extending about and in continuous contact with said cap adjacent said lower edge thereof, means securing said peripheral fold to said cap throughout the extent thereof. 2. An article of headwear comprising a cap of rigi material, having a lower edge to'fit about the head of a wearer, and inflatable balloon element having a first half*` "i telescoped within the other half to form a peripheral fold,
and means securing said fold to said'cap about and adjacent to the lower edge thereof.
3. In an article for wear upon the human vhead, a onepiece'unitary cap of stiff, rigid material conforming generally to the shape of the skull of a wearer-and having a continuous lower edge, a one-piece inllatable balloon conforming and fitting exteriorly over and about said cap, the lower continuous edge of said balloon being folded inwardly to form a reinforcement fold extending about and encompassing the lower edge of said cap, means securing said reinforcement fold only to said cap. l
4. An article of headwear comprising a one-piece unitary cap of still, rigid material conforming generally to the shape of the skull ofa wearer, and having a smooth continuous lower peripheral edge, a rubber balloon element having an inner half telescoped within the outer' edge thereof and secured thereto, and a band secured to and about the lower peripheral edge of said cap, the
upper edge of said band overlapping and concealing said fold.
5. `In an article of Wear for the head, a cap of stiff, rigid material conforming generally to the shape of the skull of a wearer, an inatable balloon element having a first half telescoped within the other half to `define a continuous peripheral fold, extending about said cap adjacent the lower edge thereof, and a band extending about and secured to the lower edge of said cap, said fold beingse-` cured to said cap between the same and said band.
