Description

ITJ 48 E. D. KUZMICH P LEASURE CHES T Filed Aug. 25, 1958 United rates Patent 3,001,638 PLEASURE CHEST Eli I). Kuzmich, 1140 E. Dunlap, Phoenix, Ariz. Filed Aug. 25, 1958, Ser. No. 756,984 4 Claims. (Cl. 206-38) This invention relates to carrying case and more particularly to a carrying case for womens supplies.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a convenient carrying case having an exceptionally large number of individual compartments, all of which are readily accessible whenever it is desired to remove supplies carried therewithin.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a carrying case of the above type having a relatively large central compartment for carrying bulky articles, and a plurality of individual compartments accessible from the exterior of the carrying case for carrying smaller compact articles of the type that are frequently used by women and girls.
Other objects of the invention are to provide a carrying case bearing the above objects in mind which is of simple construction, has a minimum number of parts, is inexpensive to manufacture and efiicient in operation.
For other objects and for a better understanding of the invention, reference may be had to the following detailed description taken in conjunction with the accom panying drawing, in which:
FIGURE 1 is a top plan view of a pleasure chest made in accordance with the present invention;
FIGURE 2 is a view similar to FIGURE 1 with the top closure member removed;
FIGURE 3 is a front elevational view of the chest shown in FIGURE 1;
FIGURE 4 is a rear elevational view of the chest shown in FIGURE 1;
FIGURE 5 is a right end elevational view of the chest shown in FIGURE 3;
FIGURE 6 is a left end elevational view of the chest shown in FIGURE 3; and
FIGURE 7 is a longitudinal cross sectional view taken along line 7-7 of FIGURE 1.
Referring now more in detail to the drawing, a carrying case 10 made in accordance with the present invention is shown to include a base or case housing constructed of a fi'ont wall 12, rear wall 14, side or end walls 16, 18, and a bottom plate 20, all of which define an enlarged central compartment 22. A closure member 24 with mirror 42 is pivotally connected to the upper edge of the rear wall 14, such as by hinges 26 for selective movement between an open and closed position in response to actuation of the handle 28 carried by the upper surface thereof. Latch elements 29 selectively lock the closure in the closed position illustrated.
A pair of L-shaped brackets 32 connected to the inside of the end walls 16, 18 removably support a perforated plate 30 that serves as a partition to divide the large central compartment of the base into selected storage areas. A vessel 34 is positioned centrally upon the inside surface of the bottom plate 20 by means of a bail member 38, which receptacle 34 contains a sponge 36 moistened with a suitable solution for cleansing and refreshing purposes. Access to this vessel and sponge may be had merely by lifting the perforated plate 30 upwardly when the closure 24 is in the open position. A substantially rigid partition plate 40 extends between the rear and front walls of the base to further divide the upper area into separate compartments for containing more bulky items.
A plurality of additional cylindrical shaped compartments 50 is also provided, one within each of the front, rear, and side Walls for storing various small items, such as powder puffs, face powder, nail file, lipstick, mirror, ashtray, and matches. All of these articles may be selectively placed within selected ones of these compartments, as may be found to be most convenient to the user. In any event, each such separate compartment 50 includes a circular shaped door closure 46 pivotally connected to the respective wall by means of a hinge and latch assembly 44, and each is provided with a separate pull type handle 48 for effecting actuation of the closure member between the open and closed position.
It will now be recognized that a carrying case type pleasure chest is provided that affords maximum convenience to the user, a separate storage area for various articles that are constantly used by women and girls, and also a central compartment that may be conveniently used to carry large bulky items. In addition, the sponge and vessel contained within the bottom of the base serves to refresh or cleanse the skin of the user whenever the necessity arises.
While various changes may be made in the detail construction, it shall be understood that such changes shall be within the spirit and scope of the present invention as defined by the appended claims.
What I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent of the United States is:
1. An article storage and carrying case comprising, in combination, a case housing constructed of a horizontal bottom plate and vertical rectangular shaped front, rear, and end walls rigidly secured together and defining a cubical enclosure, a rectangular shaped closure member pivotally connected by a plurality of hinges to the upper edge of the rear wall, a handle attached to the upper surface of said closure member, bracket means connected to the inside of the end walls and spaced a short distance above said bottom plate removably supporting horizontally a perforated plate of rectangular configuration, said perforated plate providing the case housing with a central compartment surrounded by the walls and closure member for retaining bulky items, a bail member secured to said bottom plate and below said perforated plate removably retaining a receptable to receive a sponge moistened with a suitable solution, each of said vertical walls provided with a horizontally arranged cylindrical recess extending partially therein and open at the exterior surface thereof, said recesses providing cylindrical shaped compartments for retaining small items, a circular shaped door closure for each compartment pivotally connected to the outer surface of the respective wall by means of hinge and latch assembly attached to the wall adjacent the respective recess in said wall, rigid handle means attached to each door closure for actuation of the door closure between the open and closed position, a plurality of latch means attached to the upper edge portion of said front wall for selectively locking said closure member in the closed position, and a handle attached to the upper surface of said closure member for carrying said case.
2. The combination according to claim 1 wherein said bracket means connected to the inside of the end walls consist of L-shaped brackets.
3. The combination according to claim 2, further embodying a vertical rigid partition extending between the front and rear walls of the housing and spaced above the bottom plate to divide the central compartment.
