PAPER CONTAINER WITH INTEGRAL HANDLE MEANS Filed March '7, 196.1, 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 INVENTGR 1 a Y Yak/a //sz/ o/f/ BY M+ ATTORNEYS 3,093,294 PAPER CNTAINER Wl'iH NTEGRAL HANDLE MEANS Yukio Kusunoiri, 417 Nistri-Nakano, Toyama-shi, .tapan Filed Mar. 7, 1961, Ser. No. 93,916 Claims priority, application Japan Mar. 8, 1960 2 Claims. (Cl. 229-52) This invention relates to an improvement in paper or cardboard containers. The container of the invention consists of an inner and an outer box and can be opened by pulling out a portion of the inner box, and, after being opened, it can be closed by pushing in the said portion; and the container can be folded flat by pressing it from both sides with its mouth opened.
The characteristics and advantages of this invention will be made clear in the following detailed disclosure.
yIn order to explain the structure of the container of this invention, drawings are attached here-with, wherein:
FIG. l is a perspective view of the container of this invention in the closed condition;
FIG. 2 is a cross-section taken along the line A--A of the FlG. l;
FIG. 3 is a perspective view of the container with its mouth opened.
FIG. 4 is a cross-section taken along the line B-B of FIG. 3;
lFlG. 5 is a perspective view of the -outer box of the container of this invention;
FIG. 6 is a perspective view of the inner box of the container of this invention;
FIG. 7 is the plan of the blank forming the outer box; and
FIG. 8 is the plan of the blank forming the inner box.
The container of the invention comprises an outer box 1 made of a blank 3 (FIG. 7). The top part 5 of the blank 3 is divided into four aps 19, each having a section 9 cut out from the top part, separating the adjacent aps. The main part of the blank 3 comprises side panel portions 6 and an edge pasting ilap 1t) for connecting the two endmost panel portions. Folding lines 13-15 are provided between the panel portions 6. An inner box 2 is made from a blank 4 (FIG. 8) having side panel portions 7 separated by folding lines 17, the two endmost side panel portions being joined by an edge pasting flap 12. The top part of the inner box includes flaps 11 and, in the preferred embodiment, ngerholds or handles 20. Flaps 8 and S are disposed at the lower extreme of the blank 4 and are connected to the blank by folding lines 18, to form the bottom part of the inner box 2. The inner box is inserted within the outer box 1 and the flaps 19 thereof are joined with the tlaps 11 of the inner box.
When the inner box 2 is pulled outward from the the outer box 1, the top part 5 of the outer box 1 is strongly bent downward on the folding line 14, and stretches on the lines 13, and the ilaps 11 of the inner box Z are straightened out at line 16, therefore, if the inner box 2 is pushed downward, the mouth of the container is opened. (See FIG. 3.) When the inner box 2 is pushed into the outer box 1, the top part 5 of the outer box 1 is bent inward along the lines 13 and a part of each of the neighboring divisions of the top part 5 intrudes into a cut-off section 9 as shown in FIG. l, and then the top part 5 of the outer box 1 and the tiaps 11 of the inner box 2 corne into contact with each other, and the mouth closes, Therefore, if the inner box 2 is pulled -outward and pushed inward in the outer box 1, the mouth of the container can be opened and closed. Moreover, when the mouth is made closed, it is shut tight, because, as said before, a part of each Patented June 1l, 1963 division of the top part 5 of the outer box intrudes into each cut-off section 9.
If the inner box 2 of the container of this invention is made of corrugated cardboard, one can carry such fragile things as bottles securely in the container. If the nger holds or handles are provided protruding from the aps 11, and they protrude above the container in its closed condition, the container can be conveniently carried thereby and the mouth is maintained shut.
The form of the outer box 1 and the inner box 2 may either be a rectangular or square prism. The form of the top part 5 of the outer box 1 and the form of the flaps 11 may be changed; and, as shown in the attached figures, the flaps 19 of the top part 5 may be pasted either to the outside of the flaps 11 or to the inside thereof. Instead of making the form of the pieces constituting the bottom part of the inner box 2 as shown in the attached figures and pasting the piece 8 to the piece 8, the form of the pieces 8, 8 may be changed so that the pieces 8, 8 can make up the bottom being united with each other.
As was said above, the container of this invention can be opened and closed completely and surely by pulling outward and pushing inward the inner box 2 within the outer box 1, so the container is a convenient one for containing and carrying things therein. lf the mouth of the container is opened by pulling the inner box 2 outward in the outer box 1 and the side parts of the outer box 1 are pressed from both sides, the whole container can be folded flat. So, .many containers can be stacked and transported together. Besides this advantage, the structure is very simple and the manufacturing cost is low.
What I claim is: y
l. A container, comprising an outer box having a top part formed with foldable flaps having cut away portions adapted to enclose said top part upon the folding of said flaps toward each other, and an inner box having a top part with foldable aps having cut away portions corresponding to said cut away portions on the top part of said outer box, said inner and outer boxes being made of separate sheets of paper or cardboard, each being formed integral with its flaps having cut away portions, said aps on the top part of said outer box and said flaps of said inner box Abeing joined with paste joints between the edges of said aps, flaps having cut away portions on the bottom of said inner box adapted to fold against the inside of said inner box when said inner and outer boxes are folded flat, and adapted Ito fold toward each other and enclose the bottom of said inner box when said inner and outer boxes are in a contents receiving state, said inner box being slideable within said outer box, whereby the flaps having cut away portions on the respective top parts of said inner and outer boxes will enclose the top'sides when the inner box is being slid upward within said outer box, and said bottom flaps having cut away portions will be in a plane common to the plane of the bottom edge of said outer box.
2. A container comprising an outer box having a top part formed with foldable flaps having cut away portions, said aps being adapted to enclose said top pant upon the folding of said iiaps towards each other, an inner box having a top part with -foldable flaps having cut away portions corresponding to said cut away portions on the top part of said outer box, said aps of said outer box and said flaps of said inner box being foldably connected at their edges by means of paste joints, and handle means on selected ones of said iiaps on the top part of said inner box, said handle means being free from said outer box and the top flaps thereof, said inner and outer boxes being formed from separate sheets of paper or cardboard each formed integral with its aps, said inner box further comprisng bottom closure rneans adapted to enclose the bottom of said inner box, said bottom closure means being at a plane substantially lower than the bottom edge of said outer box, said inner box being slideable within said outer box, whereby upon sliding said inner box upward in said outer box the flaps on the respective top parts of said inner and outer boxes will enclose the topsides thereof, said bottom closure means will be in a plane common to the plane of the bottom edge of said outer box, and
said handle means will protrude above said enclosed container for easy handling thereof.
