Description
June 4, 1963 D. PETERSON SHOWER ATTACHMENT Filed Sept. 19, 1961 INVENTOR. DANA PET E RSON BY maiawx United States Patent 3,092,334 SHOWER ATTACHMENT Dana Peterson, 5104 N. Harbor Drive, San Diego 6, Calif. Filed Sept. 19, 1961, Ser. No. 139,237 2 Claims. (Cl. 239-516) This invention relates to shower attachments and more particularly as an adjunct to a common shower head for deflecting the water spray more eificientl'y. This new shower attachment is efiicient, economical, and of simple construction. It is the object of this new shower attachment to provide protection for the user from being scalded or chilled by shower spray water when adjusting common hot and cold shower water faucets. This new shower attachment also provides additional direction control to a common shower head, enabling the user to shower without wetting his or her head. Further, the construction of this invention features embodiment of a cam for positioning that engages the perimeter and edge of a common shower head. Reference to the following detailed drawings and description will clarify and provide a clear understanding of the new features embodied in this invention in which: 7
FIGURE 1 is a top View of the shower attachment comprising the present invention.
FIGURE 2 is a bottom view of the shower attachment comprising the present invention.
FIGURE 3 is an enlarged view illustrating the shower attachment prior to being snapped into operative position on the rim of the shower head.
FIGURE 4 is an enlarged bottom detail view illustrating the shower attachment positioned on the shower head.
With continuing reference to the drawings submitted, similar parts are referenced by like reference numerals in various views.
The shower attachment comprising the present invention is a resilient sheet material such as spring stainless steel. FIGURES 1 and 2 are views of the shower attachment as permanently formed.
Reference numeral 1 indicates the forward edge or lip of the shower attachment.
The lip is an apron-like deflector and constitutes a major portion of the entire shower attachment which may be visualized as being of hollow, generally frustoconical form. A longer arm 2 and shorter arm 4 are unitary with the lip 1 and are curved in the same sense as said lip 1, said arms overlapping at their distal ends and being capable of a certain amount of spring action. The arms 2 and 4 taper toward their rounded distal ends.
A spring stop 3 is provided between the root or proximal ends of the arms 2 and 4 in generally opposed relation to said distal ends of the arms, this stop 3 constituting a return bent portion, tongue-like in character, and extending generally inwardly of the attachment.
Fatented June 4, 1963 ice To install the new shower attachment, the movable nut indicated by numeral 5 is unscrewed, the shower head numeral 6 is inserted thru the shower attachment as shown in FIGURE 3 and the movable nut numeral 5 is re- 5 tightened permitting the shower attachment to be positioned as shown in FIGURE 3. In use, the lip 1 or" the shower attachment is grasped between the thumb and forefinger and a light downward pull is exerted causing the longer arm 2 to spring outward thereby enabling the 10 spring stop to snap over the rim of the spray nozzle 7 while the arms 2 and 4 grip against the rear section of the shower head numeral 6. This action now positions the shower attachment. To disengage the shower attachment, one merely grasps the lip numeral 1, exerts a slight downward and outward guiding pull and the shower attachment is returned to the position shown in FIGURE 3.
What is claimed as new is as follows:
1. A shower head attachment for use with a shower head having a spray nozzle with a rim, said attachment comprising:
a section of resilient apron-like lip;
a pair of arms unitary with said lip and having their distal ends brought substantially together to define, with said lips, a hollow generally frusto-conical element; and
a spring stop unitary with said lip between the proximal ends of said arms and extending into said frus-toconical element to snap over the rim of a spray nozzle of a shower head when said arms embrace an opposed portion of the shower head.
2. A shower head attachment for use with a shower head having a spray nozzle with a rim, said attachment 35 comprising:
a section of resilient sheet material having a curved apron-like lip;
a pair of arms unitary with said lip and having their distal ends brought substantially together to define, with said lip, a hollow generally frusto-conical form; and
a spring stop unitary with said lip between the proximal ends of said arms to snap over the rim of a spray nozzle of a shower head when said arms embrace an opposed portion of the shower head;
said arms tapering toward their distal ends, and said spring stop being return bent and extending inwardly toward the center of the attachment.
