(Cl. 220-46) The invention relates to still and movie cameras and projectors, wherein the working parts are covered by a casing which consist of two or more members, the abutting edges thereof having to fit together in lightand dusttight manner.
In known designs the contiguous edges of the casing members engage positively with one another. For instance, two members can engage one over another or one member can be formed with a groove into which the other member is pressed. A disadvantage of this arrangement is that the connections are complicated to manufacture by casting or machining and must be produced to high standards of accuracy. Also, connections of this nature detract from the overall impression given by modern designs of aesthetic appearance, apart from failing to ensure lightand dust-tight closure of the working parts encased.
It is an object of the invention to. obviate these disadvantages and to provide other advantages. the contiguous edges of members forming casings which cover the working parts, such as cases, covers or the like bear against one another by way of smooth surfaces and a resilient strip is placed therebetween. The same has a beaded edge and is made preferably of rubber, leather or plastic. The strip is formed with recesses on the edge opposite the bead, for adaption to the shape of the members which it is required to interconnect. The strip can be colored, thus combining usefulness with a pleasant appearance. The strip compensates for manufacturing inaccuracies in the connecting areas and ensures a strong lightand dust-tight fit of the members joined together.
The invention will be explained in greater detail with reference to a constructional form thereof a applied to a photographic camera, .details which do not directly bear upon the invention being omitted.

FIGURE 1 shows a perspective view of a photographic camera embodying the invention;
- FIGURE 2 shows a fragmentary cross sectional elevational view along the line II-II of FIGURE 1;
FIGURE 3 shows in plan View a resilient strip used to seal the pace between different portions of the casing of the camera shown in FIGURE 1;
FIGURE 4 is a side elevational view of the resilient strip along the line IV-IV of FIGURE 3;
FIGURE 5 is a horizontal cross-sectional view of the camera casing along the line V--V of FIGURE 1; and
FIGURE 6 is a vertical cross-sectional view of the camera casing along the line VI-VI of FIGURE 1.
Referring to the drawings in detail, the camera is formed by an open top housing 10 having a front wall 11, side walls 12 and 13, a rear wall 14 and a base 15. The respective upper edges 16, 17, 18 and 19 of the walls 11, 12, 13 and 14 lie in a horizontal plane. Around the edges 16, 17, 18 and 19 there is placed a colored resilient strip 24 (shown in FIGURES 3 and 4) which is provided with a bead 25 along one side and arcuate cut-away portions 26 defined by spaced projections on the other side whereby the resilient strip 24 can conform to the contours of the edges 16, 17, 18 and 19.
A cover cap 27 bears on the beaded strip 24 as shown in FIGURES 1, 2 and 6. The cover cap 27 comprises a top portion 28, a front wall 29, side walls 30 and 31 and a rear wall 32. The respective lower edges 33, 34, 35

and 36 of the walls 29, 30, 31 and 32 lie in a horizontal plane and register with the edges 16, 17, 18 and 19 of the housing 10, being separated therefrom by the strip 24, which is disposed between the contiguous edges 16 and 33, 17 and 34, 18 and 35, 19 and 36 respectively, with the bead 25 disposed exteriorly of the said edges. An upper central portion of the wall 11 of the housing 10 and. a central portion of the cap 27 are open at the front, the cap 27 having an upper horizontal front edge .39 and two laterally inclined side edges 40 and 41 (41 being not visible in FIGURE 1, but a mirror image of the edge 40).
The cover cap 27 is secured to the housing 10 by tags such as 21.
A front cover 44 is formed with an upper portion 45 and a lower portion 46. The upper portion 45 forms a front closure of the open central portion of the wall 29 and has an upper horizontal edge 47 and laterally inclined edges 48 and 49 (the edge 49 being not visible in the drawings, but a mirror image of the edge 48). The edges 47, 48 and 49 register with the edges 39, 40 and 41 respectively of the cover cap 27.
The lower portion 46 of the front cover 44 has vertical upper rearward edges 50 and 51 and a semi-circu1ar lower rearward edge 52. An aperture 53 is provided in the lower portion 46. A colored resilient strip 54 of the same construction as strip 24 is provided between the edges 47 to 52 inclusive of the front cover 44 and the housing 10. The strip 54 has on one side a beaded portion 55 similar to the beaded portion 25 on the strip 24.
The front cover 44 is attached to the housing 10 by screws 58 with the edges 47, 48 and 49 in registry with the edges 39, 40 and 41 respectively of the top cover 27 and with the edges 50 to 53 bearing through the resilient strip 54 on the front wall 11 of the housing 10, the resilient strip 54 being disposed also between the edges 39 and 47, 40 and 48, 41 and 49. The beaded portion 55 of the strip 54 is disposed exteriorly of the edges of the front cover 44.
I claim:
A photographic camera casing comprising an open top housing defined by a base, a front wall upstanding from the base, a central portion of the front wall having edges defining an opening therein, side walls upstanding from the base and extending rearwardly of the front wall, and a rear wall upstanding from the base and connecting rearward edges of the side walls, the upper edges of the front, side and rear walls lying substantially in a single horizontal plane, a first resilient strip formed with a bead along one side of the strip and spaced projections defining arcuate recesses along the other side of the strip, the first strip being disposed along the said upper edges with the bead exterior of the edges, a first cover member having a top portion, a front wall depending from the top portion, a central portion of the front wall having edges defining an opening therein, which is of the same horizontal extent as and in facing registry with the opening in the housing, side walls depending from the top portion and extending rearwardly of the front wall of the first cover member, and a rear wall depending from the top portion and connecting rearward edges of the side walls of the first cover member, the lower edges of the said front, side and rear walls of the first cover member lying substantially in a common horizontal plane and having the same dimensions as the upper edges of the said front, side and rear walls respectively of the housing, the first cover being firmly connected to the housing with the said lower edges of the walls of the first cover bearing on the first resilient strip interiorly of the said bead and in registry with the upper edges of the housing, a second cover member having an upper portion with edges in registry with the edges defining the opening in the central portion of the first cover member thereby forming a closure of the opening, the second cover member having also a lower portion with a central aperture registering with the opening in the central portionof the front Well of the housing and edges in registry with the front wallof the housing, the se'e'o'nd 'coyer member being firmly'c'onnected with the housing and the first cover member, and a second resili'eiit strip similar to said first resilient strip and having a'bea'ding 'along one side "thereof, the second resilient strip being disposed between the edges of the 'upner portion of the second 'cover member and the edges defining the opening 'in the -'Central portion of the front wall of the first cover meinber an'cl between the edges of the lower portion of 'the 'seoO nd cover member and thefront wall of the housing with the heading of said second fresilient strip exterior of the edges of the second cover member.
