(Cl. 15G-35) This invention relates to combination personal receptacles or containers, i.e., containers or cases carried by or on the person.

The primary object of the invention is to provide a purse, billfold or other receptacle of personal wear with an eyeglass case as a unitary part of such receptacle and thereby obviate the need for using or carrying a separate eyeglass case in addition to the purse, billfold or combination purse and billfold, as the case may be.

In accordance with this invention, an eyeglass case is directly associated with a receptacle of the type generally designated as purses, billfolds, wallets, etc., or combination purses and billfolds wherein the purse is provided as a receptacle for change and the billfold or wallet is provided to hold paper money and sometimes other papers or articles.

The preferred embodiment of the invention will he described presently in detail with reference to the accompanying illustrative drawings in which:

Referring rst to FIGS. 1 to 4 of the drawings, the receptacle includes a container, for example, a change purse 10 provided with a top access opening formed by hinged inverted U-frame members 12 and 14 of well known construction and provided with the releasable clasp fasteners. The purse includes the side walls 18 and 20 which are secured in a conventional way in the channels of the frame members 12 and 14, respectively. Said purse preferably has a lining 22 which is secured in said frame members and is closed at its sides and at its bottom 24.

The opposite sides 13 and 2t) of the purse 10 are extended downwardly beyond the bottom of the purse to form the eyeglass case 26 in unitary relation with said purse. More specifically, the wall extensions 28 and 30 intermediate the purse 10 and eyeglass case 26 are secured to each other in face-to-face relation by adhesive, heatsealing or in any suitable way to dene one side of the eyeglass case. The wall extensions 32 and 34 which are preferably integral with the intermediate extensions 28 and 3G, respectively, are wider than the latter and shaped as shown by FIG. 2 to provide the side walls of said eyeglass case or compartment 26 of the receptacle. Said eyeglass case 26 is closed at one end as indicated at 36 (FIG. 2) and open at its opposite end 38 (FIG. 1) for insertion and removal of the eyeglasses. As illustrated in FIG. 2, the eyeglasses are partly removed from the case 26.

In this form of the invention, the receptacle is also provided with a billfold or paper money compartment 4t2. For this purpose an outer wall member 42 is secured at its upper edge and upper side edge portion of the side edge 4d in the channel of frame member 12, the opposite side edge 46 of wall 42 being unattached to provide an opening for the insertion and removal of the paper money into and out of said compartment or billfold 4i). Said opening is concealed by the eyeglass case when the latter is in its folded position against the side of the purse (FIGS. 1 and 1A). The inner wall of the billfold is provided by side wall 18 of the purse and by the integral extensions Stb and 34 of wall 1S. It will be understood that a wall 42 such as the wall 42 of the billfold compartment may extend for the full width of wall 34 and secured thereto only at the side and bottom edges thereof so as to provide a top access opening as indicated at 46 in FIG. 9.

Provision is made in this embodiment of the invention for releasably securing the receptacle in folded condition, as shown by FIG. l, so that the billfold is closed and the purse 1li and eyeglass case are disposed in convenient and compact side-byside relation. For this purpose a snap fastener member 48 is secured to wall 42 near its lower end for engagement with a companion fastener member Si? carried by a tab 52 secured in the upper channel of frame member 12. It will be`understood that the eyeglasses may be inserted and removed from the case 26 without unfolding the receptacle and that the latter need be unfolded only when access to the billfold is desired.

The receptacle may be made of any suitable material or combinations of materials, e.g., leather, fabrics, plastics, etc. and when seams are required they may be in the form of stitching or as heat seals, especially in the case of plastics or other heat-scalable materials. In the form of the invention illustrated by FIGS. 1 to 4, the walls I8 and 20 and the lining are seamed at their side edges as indicated at 54 and 56. Scams 54 and 56 also run through the intermediate extensions 2? and 30. Seam 54 also secures one side edge of extensions 32 and 34 and one side edge ift of billfold wall 42 together. Seam 56 ends at the opening to the eyeglass case while seam 54 continues as indicated at 54a and 54h to secure the lower edges of walls 34 and 42 to each other and to the lower edge of wall 32.

In the form of the invention illustrated by FIGS. 5 to 7, the billfold is omitted. As here shown the receptacle comprises a purse or small clutch bag 58 and an eyeglass case 6tl closed at one end as indicated at 62 and having an opening 64 at its opposite end for the insertion and removal of the eyeglasses. The conventional inverted U-frame members for the purse or bag closure are indicated at 66 and 68, and it will be noted that the outer wall 70 of the eyeglass case is secured in the channel of frame member 68 as is the side wall 72 which forms the inner Wall of said case and one of the walls of the purse or bag 58. Walls y62, 72 and wall 74 are all seamed together at their edges except lat the open end 64 of the eyeglass case.

In the above described forms of the invention the closure for the purse is the conventional hinged U-frame type of closure, but it will be understood that any other suitable closure may be employed. For example, butA not by way of limitation, the closure may be a slide fastener or zipper-type closure as illustrated by FIG. 8. As there shown, the purse 1G is provided with a zipper 8) but in all other respects the combination receptacle may be of the same construction as the receptacle shown by FIGS. l to 4. Similarly, the purse of the combination receptacle shown by FIGS. 5 to 7 may be provided with a zipper closure and in other respects the combination receptacle may be of the same construction as that illustrated by FIGS. 5 to 7.

While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it will be understood that the invention may be embodied otherwise than as herein specifically illustrated or described, and that certain changes in the form and arrangement of parts and in the specic manner of practicing the invention may be made without departing from the underlying idea or principles of this invention within the scope of the appcnded claims. For example and without limitation, the article may be in the form of two purses in end-to-end relation, each having its own access opening with a closure of any suitable type, and either or both purses may be provided with a compartment for eyeglasses with an end opening similar to the eyeglass compartment described above in FIGS. l to 9 of the drawings. In this last mentioned embodiment of the invention the container may be of the same width throughout its extent or one of the purses may be narrower than the other purse and, further, it will be understood that in this last mentioned embodiment of the invention the container may be foldable about a transverse line intermediate the opposite ends thereof and secured in folded relation by a separable fastener, as illustrated for example in FIG. 2, or the container may be in the form of two purses secured permanently in side-by-side relation and either or both of said purses may be provided with the eyeglass case with an end opening as described above with reference to FIGS. l to 9.

What I claim is:

l. A combination receptacle for personal use, comprising a container having a top access opening, said container having opposite side walls of flexible material, and means in unitary relation with said container forming an eyeglass case having opposite side walls continuous with said opposite side walls respectively of said container and terminating in attached lower ends, said eyeglass case having an opening for the insertion and removal of eyeglasses into and out of said case, said side walls of the eyeglass case being foldable along a line parallel to and -spaced from said access opening of said container to and from a position in which said eyeglass case is disposed at one side of said container in abutting face-to-face relation to said one side of the container, said opening of the eyeglass case being disposed adjacent one side edge of the receptacle and extending in the direction of said edge beyond said line of fold whereby access to said eyeglass case is available while said eyeglass case is folded against said container, said opposite side walls of the eyeglass case being attached to each other along a transverse line spaced from the top of said container and yfrom said attached lower ends of said side walls of the eyeglass case, said opposite side walls of the eyeglass case being attached to each other at the other side edge of the receptacle, said opposite side walls of the container being also secured to each other in continuous relation with the securement of the side walls of the eyeglass case at said other side edge of the receptacle, and said side walls of the container being secured to each other at said one side edge of the receptacle above the access opening of said eyeglass case.

.v 2. .A combination receptacle for personal use, cornprising a container having a top access opening, said container having opposite side walls of flexible material, and means in unitary relation with said container forming an eyeglass case having opposite side walls continuous with said opposite side walls respectively of said container and terminating in attached lower ends, said eyeglass case having an opening for the insertion and removal of eyeglasses into and out of said case, said side wails of the eyeglass case being foldable along a line parallel to and spaced from said access opening of said container to and from a position in which said eyeglass case is disposed at one side of said container in abutting face-to-face relation to said one side of the container, said opening of the eyeglass case being disposed adjacent one side edge of the receptacle and extending in the direction of said side edge beyond said line of fold whereby access to said eyeglass case is available while said eyeglass case is folded against said container, said opposite side walls of the eyeglass case being attached to euch other along a transverse line spaced from the top of said container and from said attached lower ends of said side wails of the eyeglass case, said opposite side walls of the eyeglass case being attached to each other at the other side edge of the receptacle, said opposite side walls of the container being also secured to each other in continuous relation with the securement of the side walls of the eyeglass case at said other side edge of the receptacle, and said side walls of the container being secured to each other at said one side edge of the receptacle above the access opening of said eyeglass case, said eyeglass case being substantially wider than said container so that the eyeglass case is adapted to enclose eyeglasses when inserted therein through said opening at said one side edge of the receptacle without requiring that said container be as wide as the eyeglass case.

3. A combination receptacle vfor personal use, comprising a container having a top access opening, said container having opposite side walls of flexible material, and means in unitary relation with said container forming .an eyeglass case having opposite side walls continuous with said opposite side Walls respectively of said container and terminating in attached lower ends, said eyeglass case having an opening for the insertion and removal of eyeglasses into and out of said case, said side walls of the eyeglass case being foldable along a line parallel to and spaced from said access opening of said container to and from a position in which said eyeglass case is disposed at one side of said container in abutting face-to-face relation to said one side of the container, said opening of the eyeglass case being disposed adjacent one side edge of the receptacle and extending in the direction of said edge beyond said line of fold whereby access to said eyeglass `case is available while said eyeglass case is folded against said container, said opposite walls of the eyeglass case being attached to each other along a transverse line spaced from the top of said container and from said attached lower ends of said side walls of the eyeglass case, said opposite side walls of the eyeglass case being attached to each other at the other side edge of the receptacle, said opposite side walls of the container being also secured to each other in continuous relation with the securement of the `side walls of the eyeglass case at said other `side edge of the receptacle, and said side walls of the container being secured to each other at said one side edge of the recetacle above the access opening of said eyeglass case, said receptacle having a wall overlying one of the walls of the container at said one side ythereof and overlying the wall o-f the eyeglass case which is continuous with said one wall of the container and having opposite ends and one side edge secured to the receptacle and forming -a pocket with said last mentioned walls of the receptacle, said pocket being disposed between said one side of the container and said eyeglass case in said folded position of the eyeglass case.

A combination receptacle for personal use, comprising a container having a top access opening, said container having opposite side walls of flexible material, and means in unitary relation with said container forming an eyeglass case having opposite side walls continuous with said opposite side walls respectively of said container :and terminating in attached lower ends, said eyeglass case having lan opening for the insertion and removal of eyeglasses into and out of said case, said side walls of the eyeglass case being foldable along a line parallel to and spaced from said access opening of said container to and from a position in which said eyeglass case is disposed at one iside of said container in abutting face-to-face relation to said one side of the container, said opening of the eyeglass case being disposed adjacent one side edge of the receptacle and extending in the direction of said edge beyond said line of fold whereby `access to said eyeglass case is available while said eyeglass case is folded against said container, said opposite side walls of the eyeglass case being attached to each other along a transverse line spaced from the top of said container and from said attached lower ends of said side walls of the eyeglass case, said opposite side walls of the eyeglass case being attached to each other at the other side edge of the receptacle, said opposite side walls of the container being also secured to each other in continuous relation with the securement of the side walls of the eyeglass case at said other side edge of the receptacle, and said side walls of 4the container being secured to each other at said one side edge of the receptacle above the access opening of said eyeglass case, said receptacle having a wall overlying one f the walls of the container at said one side thereof and overlying the wall of the eyeglass case which is continuous with said one wall of the container and having opposite ends and one side edge secured to the receptacle and forming a pocket with said last mentioned walls of the receptacle, said pocket being disposed between said one side of the container and said eyeglass oase in said folded position of the eyeglass case, said pocket having an access opening spaced from the side edges of the receptacle and said eyeglass case being substantially wider than said container so that the eyeglass case extends beyond and conceals said opening of said pocket.
