LEATHER ROLLER.
Specification of Letters Patent No. 3,055, dated April 25, 1843.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN GARDNER, of
Petersburg, in the county of Adams and creased or diminished at pleasure, by lengthening or shortening the arm by means oi'' a screw. Y
In constructing my machine a suitable frame (a) is formed at the center of which, across the to-p, there is a cross piece (af), under this cross piece an elleptic spring (b)y formed like a common elleptic carriagel spring is affixed. T10 the under half of said spring a universal joint is connected' (more clearly shown in Fig. 2) by which a vertical arm (c and 0') is joined to it; this arm is in two parts divided horizontally, the lower one (c) having a hole in its upl per end into whichY a female screw is inserted; the upper one is furnished with a male screw by which the two arms are connected, and kept the required distance apart. On the lower end of the arm a transverse bar (d) is jo-inted which has a handleat each end either of which can be elevated the other being depressed; from this bar two projections descend which serve for bearings for the journals of a roller (c) there may be also a framework (f) Vattached to the bar above to steady it.
