United States Patent COMBINATION GARMENT HANGER Samuel F. Anania, Des Moines, Iowa Application August 8, 1958, Serial No. 753,915
1 Claim. (Cl. 223-89) This invention relates to new and useful improvements in garment hangers of the wire type and has for its primary object to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a combination device of this character which is particularly adapted to accommodate trousers as well as coats, shirts, etc.
Another very important object of the present invention is to provide a combination garment hanger of the aforementioned character wherein the trouser supporting means, when not in use, is adapted to be expeditiously folded to an out'of-the-way position.
Other objects of the invention are to provide a combination garment hanger of the character set forth which will be comparatively simple in construction, strong, durable, compact, of light weight and which may be mann faetured at low cost.
These together with other objects and advantages which will become subsequently apparent reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming a part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a combination garment hanger constructed in accordance with the present invention, showing the trouser supporting means in use; and
Figure 2 is a perspective view of the device, showing the trouser supporting means in folded or inoperative position.
Referring now to the drawing in detail, it will be seen that the embodiment of the invention which has been illustrated comprises a coat, shirt, etc., hanger which is designated generally by reference character 3. The hanger 3 is formed from a single length of suitable resilient wire which is formed to provide oppositely projecting, outwardly inclined coat, etc., supporting arms in the form of resilient loops 4. The end portions of the wire are then twisted together in a manner to provide a stem or shank 6, one of said end portions terminating in a suspension hook 7 for engagement over a suitable support.
Suspended from the coat, etc., hanger 3 is a trouser hanger of suitable metal which is designated generally by reference character 8. The hanger 8 is also of wire and comprises a vertical rod 9 which, in the embodiment shown, has its upper end portion wrapped around the twisted wire stem 0'17 shank 6 for suspending said rod from the hanger 3. The wrapped upper end portion of the rod 9 is indicated at 10. At its lower end the rod 9 terminates in an eye 11.
The rod 9 is stationary and suspended therefrom is a freely swingable trouser holder 12. The holder 12 is formed from a single piece of suitable wire bent to provide pairs of outwardly and upwardly inclined arms 13 having on their outer or free end portions upstanding loops 14 which are engageable upwardly in the cuffs 17 of a pair of inverted trousers 18 to be hung. At an intermediate point on the trouser holder 12 one end portion of the wire forming said holder is bent upwardly to provide a rod 15 terminating at its upper end in an eye 16 which is engaged in the eye 11 for loosely suspending said holder from the rod 9.
It is thought that the use of the device will be readily apparent from a consideration of the foregoing. Briefly, coats and similar garments to be hung are mounted in the usual manner on the hanger 3. The trousers 18 to be suspended from the device are inverted and the upstand ing loo'ps 14 on the outer ends of the arms 13 of the holder 12 are inserted upwardly in the adjacent inner sides of the cuffs 17 of said trousers. When the trousers hanger 8 is not to be used the holder 12 is swung up wardly on the rod 9 to inverted or folded position and snapped into the resilient loops 4 of the hanger 3 as shown to advantage in Figure 2 of the drawing.
The foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the invention. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the invention to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the invention as claimed.
What is claimed as new is as follows:
A foldable garment hanger comprising: a wire coat hanger including a pair of outwardly and downwardly inclined, resilient garment supporting loops, a rod extending downwardly from said coat hanger at a point intermediate the ends of said loops, and an invertible trousers hanger comprising a single length of wire including a pair of outwardly and upwardly inclined arms, upstanding loops on the free ends of said arms insertable in the cuffs of trousers, and a vertical member intermediate the free ends of said arms pivotally connected to said rod, the length of said rod and said vertical member being such that the trousers hanger, when inverted, can be engaged in the loops for retention thereby in folded position.
