Description

(NQ Model.)
A. LFUGHS. r woon SPLITTING MACHINE. I Y v No. 292,644. n "Patented Jan. 29,1884. d
Wmmmx #wim v UNITED STAT-12s PATENT OFFICE.
. AUGUs'T FUCHS',4 or "cANNsTADT, WURTEMBERG, GERMANY.
wooDp-sPLiTTING MACHINE.
SPCIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 292,644, dated January 29, 1854. Application led June `25, 1883. (No model.)V yPatenedin Germany June.i9, 1881, No. 17,384.
To all whom it may concerfzaf Be it known that I, AUGUsT FUCHS', a citizen of Wrtemberg, German Empire, residing at Cannstadt, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Tool for Splitting Wood, of which the following is a specical tion, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
My invention relates tQ an apparatus by which pieces of wood may be readily split without danger of injuring the operator or the base upon which the Wood is split.
My invention will .be readily understood from the accompanying drawings, in which Figure l represents a perspective vievsr of the entire apparatus; Fig. 42, a perspective of the metal of the splitting-tool, Fig. 3, a view, partly in section, of the cutting-blade.
My apparatus consists of a franie,A, which may preferably be permanently attached to the wall by screws. This frame is provided with lugs C C, between which is pivoted the cutting-blade D. v
Within the frame A is cut the slot E, allowing of the passage of the blade D through the frame. The blade is pivoted in the lugs C C by the pivot F, and is provided with a handle, G. The cutting-bladeitself is not of uniform width throughout its length, but is thin toward the pivot F, and is provided with the 3o broad wings K K. By this means thesplit may be started by the narrow blade andA increased by the wings.
The operation will' be readily understood.
The wood to be split is placed over the slot E, 3 5
and, the handle G being depressed, the split is commenced by the narrow part of the blade D, and increased and finished by the broad parts K K. s
, What I claim as my invention, and desire to 4o secure by Letters Patent, is
A wood-splitting tool consisting `of a frame or base adapted to be secured to a iiXed support, and having lugs and an opening or slot,
E, a blade pivoted at one end to the lugs, and 45 having an extended handle, the said blade being narrow at onel edge andhaving wedgeshaped enlargements, substantially as described.V
