The various publications, such as collections of regulations, ofiicial gazettes, :list of industrial standards, reports .or tariffs, etc. which are delivered among most of the government ofiices and companies are necessary document's'being utilized inbusiness.
However, with these documents it is always necessary to carry out insertion and extraction of the filing documents very e'fliciently. for the purpose of irregular addition or revision :thereof, so thata binder in which the papers to befiled can be simply .placed in or taken out has been required by people up to now.
But most of the conventional products are very complex in their filing mechanism or troublesome in the bandlinglthereo f.
Therefore, an essential object of this invention is to provideimproved, simple, strong and durable binders which make filingand extracting of any sheet or paper very convenient and efiicient.
'Said object and other objects of this invention have been attained by an improved construction which comprises a base ,plate attached to the foldable portion of the filing cover sheet; a turntable side plate which is turnably pivoted to one side edge of said base plate; a spring attached so as to push always said :side plate to its opened position; several stationary filing pins erected perpendicularly on said side .plate; another stationary side plate which is perpendicularly bent up at the other side edge of said base :plate, said side plate having, at the upper portion thereof, cut slots capable of receiving said filing pins when the above-mentioned turnable .side plate is turned up; and a stop device which is made so as to lock, when the'turnable side plate .having the filing pins is turned up, the filing ,pins in the cut slots of the stationary side plate. The novel features which are believed to becharacteristics ofthe present invention are set forth with particularity in the appended claims, but the present invention, both as to its construction and manner of use, together with further objects and advantages thereof, may best be understood by reference to the following description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, in which the same members are indicated by the same numerals and in which: P

With reference to Figs. 1 and 2, the binder comprises a base plate 2 having a stationary side plate '6 which is made to stand thereon at one side edge, :and a side plate 3 jointed turnably with the other ,side edge of the plate 2, said base plate being attached to the foldable portion 1 of the cover sheet 1. A spiral spring 4 is wound around the pivotal shaft of the hinge to press the turnable side plate 3 constantly towards its openedpos'ition as shown in Fig. 1. The side plate 3 is provided withseveral filing pins 5 standing perpendicularly thereon. The stationary side plate 6 is provided .with ,cut slots 7 at its upper edge portion, the position and number of the slots 7 being matched with those of the filing pins. Furthermore, a wiry stop member 9 is .turnably jointed with the stationary side plate 6 and is normally pushed by a spring 8 so asto be brought in contact with said plate '6.
The filing and extracting operations of this example are as follows.
In the opened state as shown in Fig. 1, it is easily possible to file or take out any sheet or paper. When the filing pins 5 are pushed into the corresponding cut slots 7 by turning up the side plate 3, by finger, against the spring force of the spring 4, the stop member 9 is first turnably pushedaoutward somewhat, and the ends of the tiling pins 5 are brought under the stop member 9 and then the stop member is restored to its normal position by the spring action of the spring 8,, whereby the .pins 5 are accurately engaged within'the cut slots 7 as shown in Fig. 2.
When the binder is tobe opened to file or take out a paper or sheet, it is necessary only to push the stop member 9 outward by finger, whereby the pins 5 are released and are restored to their opened positions, because the side plate 3 is turned down automatically by the spring force of the spring 4.
For making the outward pushing of'the stop member 9 convenient, .it is preferable to form a cut portion '10 on the side plate 6 as shown in Fig. 1 .or totenlarge any one of the cut slots 7 so as to permit afinger to be inserted therein to push the stop member W Furthermore, for making the outward pushingof :the stop member 9 by the filing pins 5 easy, it is preferable to make an inclinedsurface 1 1 at the end of each pin 5.
The binder illustrated in Figs. 3 and 4 is almost the same as the example in Figs. 1 and .2 in its construction and operation except in the following points. That is to say,'in the example in Figs. '3 and 4, a plate-shaped stop member 9 is used in the place of a wiry stop member 9 The stop member 9 is turnably jointed by a hinge device with the stationary side plate 6 and is normally pressed by a springs wound around the pivotal shaft of said hinge .device ,so .as to be brought .in vcontact with the side platefi, said hingedevice being composed of the projectionsl4 punched out from the side plate 6,1sheath portions 24 of said member 9 and said pivotal shaft passed through said projections and sheath portions. For engaging the ends of the filingpins 5 with the stop member 9 holes 13 .are provided on'the stop member at the upper portion thereof facingthe cut slots 7. In this example,'for making the outward pushing of the stop member 9 by the filing pins easy, the upper edge 12 of the stop member 9 is bent roundly outward, and the end surface of each filing pin 5 is rounded somewhat.
The binder illustrated in Figs. 5 and 6 is almost the same as the examples in Figs. 1, 2 and Figs. 3, 4 in its the side plate 6 construction and operation except in the following points. That is to say, in the example in Figs. 5 and 6, the stationary side plate 6 is provided with several slits at its lower edge and the stop member 9 is made to contact by means of a fiat spring 8 which is fixed to the base plate 2 and extended out through a slit 15, said extended portionbeing resiliently bent up so as to press the stop member 9 toward the side plate 6, whereby the stop member 9 is turnably supported. The stop member 9 is provided with bent pieces 16 which are engaged in the slits 15. In this example, one or more filing pins 5 are detachably arranged as the pins 18 which in turn are perpendicularly fixed to a supporter 17 provided with holes make the remaining stationary pins 5 pass therethr'ough. Accordingly, in this example, only the stationary filing pins 5 can be engaged in the cut slots 7 of the side plate 6 and the holes 13 of the stop member 9 According to this example, the papers can be held by the filing pins 18, so that filing and extracting of the papers at the intermediate layers of the filed papers are made very convenient. In this example, when the binder is to be closed, the removable pins 18 are first made to stand on the turnable side plate 3 and then said side plate is turned up so as to make the stationary filing pins 5 engage with the cut slots 7 and the holes 13 of the stop member 9 as shown in Fig. 6. This example may be modified as the example shown in Figs. 9 and 10, in which the filing pins 5 are formed as pipe-shaped pins and each of the pins 18 supported by a supporter 6 is made so as to be inserted into the corresponding pipeshaped pin 5 said supporter 6 being used both as the side plate 6 of the above-mentioned examples and the supporter for the pins 18. In this example, the stop member 9 is turnably jointed with the base plate 2 so as to be made to stand by the spring force of the spiral spring 8 which, in turn, is wound around the pivotal shaft of the hinge. The stop member 9 is provided with lug pieces 16 at its lower edge and holes 13 at the upper portion thereof, said holes being positioned so as to make the short pins attached to the supporter 6 engage therein when said supporter 6 is brought in contact with the stop member 9 and said lug piece 16 being used for maintaining the stop member 9 at its upright position. In this example in Figs. 9 and 10, filing and extracting of the sheets or papers can be effectively carried out in the opened state of the binder as shown in Fig. 9. After said operation, the pins 18 are inserted into the pipe-shaped pins 5 and then the side plate 3 is made to stand as shown in Fig. 10, then the pins 20 are brought in engagement with the holes 13 while the stop member if is pushed, whereby the binder is closed as shown in The binder illustrated in Figs. 7 and 8 also is almost the same as the examples in Figs. 1, 2 and 3, 4 in its construction and operation except in the following points. That is to say, the stationary side plate 6 is formed by turning the base plate 2 so as to form an elongated slot therein, and the stop member for the filing pins 5 is not turnably constructed, but is constructed as a slidable plate 9 which is supported in said elongated slot so as to he slid along said plate 6 in the arrow direction.
The stop member 9 is provided with L-shaped cut slots 23 at its upper portion, each of said slots communicating with the corresponding cut and with a knob piece 22 at one of its ends. In this example, when the binder is to be closed, it is only necessary to pull the stop member 9 so that the vertical portion of the slot 23 may be brought in coincidence with the corresponding slot 7, turn up the side plate 3 so as slot 7 of the side plate 6 6 19 which are positioned so as to t removable ill to make the filing pins 5 engage with the slots 7 and 23, and then push the stop member 9 so as to make the vertical portion of each slot 23 become out of coincidence with the corresponding slot 7, whereby each of the filing pins 5 is brought in engagement with the corresponding lateral slot 21 and the binder is closed as shown in Fig. 8. The above-stated pushing operation of the stop member 9 can be automatically carried out by providing a spring 8 so as to pull constantly said stop member 9 at the position where the vertical portion of each slot 23 is out of coincidence with the corresponding cut slot 7, attachment of said spring being made by any conventional means. When the binder is to be opened, the stop member 9 is again pulled so as to make the vertical portion of each slot 23 coincide with the corresponding slot 7, then the filing pins 5 stand, because the side plate 3 is turned down by the spring force of the spring 4.
While I have described particular embodiments of my invention, it will, of course, be understood that I do not wish my invention to be limited thereto, since many modifications may be made and I, therefore, contemplate by the appended claims to cover all such modifications as fall within the true spirit and scope of my invention.
I claim:
1. A binder for a filing cover comprising a substantially flat rectangular base plate, a side plate pivotally connected along one side longitudinal edge of the base plate, spring means associated with said pivotal connection, said spring means normally urging said side plate to a position in alignment with the plane of the base plate, a plurality of hollow filing posts extending perpendicularly from said side plate, a further side plate pivotally connected along the other side longitudinal edge of the base plate, further spring means associated with the pivotal connection of said further side plate, said further spring means normally urging said further side plate to a position perpendicular to the base plate, a keeper bar having a plurality of pins extending perpendicularly therefrom 0 adapted to be inserted into the plurality of hollow posts and complemental engaging and locking means on the keeper bar and the further side plate operative when the first named side plate is moved about its pivotal connection to a position in parallelism to the further side plate, the complemental engaging and locking means coact to hold the said side plates in parallelism.
2. A binder as claimed in claim 1 wherein said complemental engaging and locking means includes a plurality of studs projecting from the face of the keeper bar opposite the face carrying the pins and a plurality of apertures along the upper portion of the further side plate for receiving the studs, with the further spring means maintaining the studs in the apertures.
3. A binder as claimed in claim 2 further including stop means on the base plate cooperable to limit the degree of pivotal movement of the further side plate towards the base plate.
