Other objects and advantages as well as the construction and manner of use of my invention will be better understood by reference to the following specication in connection with the accompanying drawings in which:

As shown in Fig. `l 'the springrests at -angular .end `18 of .theslide rod v'holdingv The iron support plate 20 may be of any suitable nontarnishing or noncorrosive material and may be formed with corrugations 21 to facilitate sliding of the iron thereon as well as minimizing heat transfer from the iron to the plate.
The configuration of the plate is such that one end 22 is substantially wider than the other end 23, the sides 24 tapering to form a wedge shape.
The sides 24 of the support plate have fu'll length angularly disposed low anges 25 with flange extensions 26 at a secondary angle. This construction provides a simple and effective means for engaging the iron on the holder at is requires only that the heel of the iron be placed on the holder and the secondary flanges will guide the iron into steady engagement with the low flanges as the iron gravitates downwardly on the holder.
It is to be noted that I mount the iron support plate 25B at an angle of approximately 60 to the horizontal. It has been found that' this is about the angle needed to stop a steam iron from generating or discharging steam from the oriiices therein.
A mounting plate 27 is secured to the iron support plate 20 with thermal insulating gasket 34 of asbestos or the like therebetween. The flange 28 of the plate 27 is provided with threaded stud 29 which engages aperture 30 in the bracket 7, a long shanked wing nut 3i. being employed to tighten flange 28 on the bracket.
To aid in steadying the flange 2S and also to provide for selection and retention of the iron support plate in any of several angular positions or to reverse the plate 139 on the bracket for right' or left hand users, I employ a pin 32 extending from the bracket and adapted to 3 engage any one of several apertures 33 in the flange 28 of the plate 27.
From the foregoing it will be seen that I have provided a simple and effective iron holder, quickly and easily securable to or detachable from an ironing board in any desired peripheral position for either right handed or left handed users. The holder is adapted to guide and receive the iron with a minimum of attention to the manner in which the iron is applied to the holder.
Obviously, changes in form, proportion and details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of my invention and I reserve all rights to such changes as come within the scope of these specifications and the claims which follow.
What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. An iron holder attachment for use on ironing boards having a peripheral channel, a U-clamp receivable by the channel, a bracket transversely secured to the U- clamp and having a portion extending under the ironing board in contact with the underneath surface thereof, and a portion extending outwardly from the ironing board, a clamping member carried by the bracket, means for moving the clamping member into and out of engagement with the peripheral channel of the ironing board, means for retaining the clamping member in or out of clamping position, and means on the outwardly extending portion of the bracket for supporting an iron.
2. The structure as specified in claim l, said lastnamed means comprising a U-shaped wedge plate, and side flanges on the plate for gripping the iron.
3. The structure as specified in claim l, said lastnamed means comprising a U-shaped wedge plate, and side anges angularly disposed inwardly on the plate for gripping the iron.
4. The structure as specified in claim l, said lastnamed means comprising a U-shaped wedge plate, and side flanges on the plate for gripping the iron, said side anges comprising lower portions angularly disposed inwardly, and upper portions angularly related to the lower portions of the flanges.
5. The structure as specified in claim 1, said lastnamed means comprising a U-shaped wedge plate, and
,4 side flanges on the plate for gripping the iron, said side flanges comprising lower portions the full length of the sides of the wedge-shaped plate and angularly disposed inwardly, and upper portions angularly related to the lower portions of the anges, said upper portions extending only a portion of the length of the lower portions of the anges.
6. The structure as specified in claim 1, said clamping member comprising a pivot plate pivotally carried by the bracket, a clamping finger extending from the plate, a handle extending from the plate, and spring means between the clamping member and lthe bracket for maintaining the clamping member in or out of clamping position.

The structure as specified in claim 1, said clamping member comprising a pivot plate pivotally carried by the bracket, a clamping finger extending from the plate, a handle extending from the plate, a slide rod on the pivot plate, a spring carried at one end by the bracket, the other end of the spring being slidably carried by the slide rod whereby the spring will slide to one position on the slide rod to retain the clamping finger in clamping position and to another position on the slide rod to retain the clamping finger in released position.
8. The structure as specified in claim 6, said clamping finger being actuately formed to clear the leg of the ironing board channel, and the fabric surrounding same.
9. The structure as specified in claim 6, said clamping finger extending around the leg of the ironing board channel and the fabric surrounding same and contacting the ironing board at the junction of the leg and vertical member of the ironing board channel.
