2 Claims. (Cl. 2-69) The present invention relates to a cover or blanket which is convertible into a coat.

According to one feature of the invention, three slots are made in a rectangular cover, one at the center of one end, and one on each side of the cover adjacent to said end and a distance therefrom substantially equal to twice the desired width of sleeve for the coat. All three slots extend preferably perpendicular or substantially perpendicular to the edges into which they are cut. The length of the slot in the end may be substantially one quarter of the Width of the cover.

Fastening means are provided on the sides of the slots, and also along the said one end of the cover. By folding the cover and interconnecting the slots and the end of the cover in a certain manner, the coat is formed.

Conveniently the cover is provided with divisible zipfasteners which may for example be so arranged as to be covered on one or on both sides.

A preferred embodiment of the invention is illustrated by way of example in the accompanying drawing, in which:

Fig. 1 shows a cover according to the invention in a spread out condition;

Fig. 2 shows the cover after being partly converted;

Fig. 3 shows the cover after being completely converted into a coat.

In the drawing one end a of a cover 13 is provided over'its full width with the halves 1, 2, 3, and 4 of four divisible zip-fasteners of preferably equal length. In the middle of the end a of the cover a longitudinal slot 5 is provided which opens between the two half-fasteners 2, 3 on the end a of the cover. The slider elements for the zip fasteners are indicated at 15. The edges of the longitudinal slot 5 are provided with the two halves 6, 7 of a divisible zip-fastener. At a distance from the end a of the cover equal to twice the Width of a sleeve of the coat into which the cover is to be converted, on each of the two longitudinal sides of the cover a transverse slot 8 (Fig. 1) is provided, each of which opens on a longitudinal edge of the cover and is perpendicular thereto.

Alternatively these slots may run at a slight angle to the end a of the cover. The edges of the transverse slots 8 are each provided With divisible zip- fasteners 9, 10 and 11, 12, respectively. The length of each transverse slot fastener 9, 10 and 11, 12, is equal to one fourth of the width of the end a of the cover, and is accordingly equal to the length of the individual half fasteners 1 to 4. The longitudinal slot 5 has, in the embodiment-illustrated, the length of the width of the sleeve, as aforesaid, but may be longer if desired.

In the conversion of the cover 13 described into an overcoat firstly the fasteners of the three slots 5, 8 are divided. Then the end a of the cover is folded down to the height of the transverse slots 8 (Fig. 2) whereupon the half fasteners 1 and 9, and 4 and 11, respectively, are connected to one another, for this the slides of the fasteners of the transverse slots8 are used. Subsequently the lower, loose lateral portions of the cover are folded inwardly, and the half- fasteners 2 and 10, and 3 and 12, respectively, are connected to one another (Fig. 3). For this, those slides may be used, which were originally arranged on the half-fasteners 2, 3. The longitudinal fastener 6, 7 remains open, the slot 5 forming the cutout for the neck. i

As diagrammatically shown in Fig. 3 in dotted lines, by the connection of the various halves of the fasteners a coat 14 (Fig. 3) is formed from the cover 13 in the manner described. If covered zip-fasteners are used, the same can be easily so arranged that they remain completely invisible on the coat. The arrangement of the fasteners may be alternatively such that from the cover a coat can be produced which may be worn reversibly and which is closable by means of zip-fasteners or the like (not shown in the drawing) provided on the abutting edges of the lower, loose lateral portions of the coat.

Instead of zip-fasteners other divisible fasteners such as buttons, pressabuttons or hook fasteners may be used. As such fasteners have unequal halves the arrangement has to be such that the halves 1, 4, 10, 12 and 2, 3, 9, 11, respectively, are equal amongst themselves.

As will be readily seen, extra parts, e.g. a collar or a hood may be provided insertable into the longitudinal slot 5. Moreover, pockets may be provided on suitable places on the cover, which are, preferably, also closable by means of fasteners.

The cover may be made of any suitable cloth. Since the cover is formed of a fiat piece of cloth, it can be folded. in a neat manner without any dilficulties, and the danger of disturbing creases in the cloth is minimized.

From the above detailed description of the invention, it is believed that the construction will at once be apparent, and while there is herein shown and described a preferred embodiment of the invention, it is nevertheless to be understood that minor changes may be made therein without departing from the spirit and scope I of the invention as claimed.

I claim:

1. A cover or blanket convertible into a coat, comprising the halves of four divisible fasteners on one of its ends, each of said fasteners ranging over a quarter of the width of said end, said end having a 1ongitudinal slot provided in the middle of the cover and opening between the two inner half-fasteners, a divisible fastener arranged between the edges of said longitudinal slot, each longitudinal side of the cover having a transverse slot spaced from said end and approximately parallel thereto and opening on its respective longitudinal edge, and a divisible fastener ranging over approximately a quarter of the length of said end between the edges of each transverse slot so that by connecting the outer half fastenerson said end to the half-fasteners on the sides of the transverse slots nearest said end, and by connecting the inner half fasteners of said end to the half fasteners on the sides of the transverse slots farthest from said end, the cover can be converted into a coat.

2. A cover or blanket convertible into a coat as set forth in claim 1 wherein said divisible fasteners are'zipfasteners.
