To a whom it may concern:

Be it known that we, OHARLns A. PEASLEY and IsAAo F. DODGE, citizens of the United States of America, residing at Gowen, in the county of Montcalm and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hay-Racks; and we do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to 'make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters or figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

1 This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in attachments for farm wagons, its object being to provide a means for carrying hay, straw, and other light produce from place to place, and in the construction of a frame which can be folded and laid away in small space; and our invention con- 'sists in the construction and combination of the parts, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth and illustrated.

In the accompanying drawings, which illustrate our invention, Figure 1,i's a perspective View, showing our improved apparatus arranged upon a wagon. Fig. 2 is a detailed view of the binder-pole, and Fig. 3 is a view of the clamp.

In the accompanying drawings, A represents a farm-wagon of ordinary construction, which is adapted to receive the rack B B, the end cross-bars of this rack being provided with a pulley, b. the wagon are provided with uprights or posts 0 and D, which are secured to the same in the ordinary'nianner'. The front post, 0, is provided with a longitudinal recess or slot, 0, having transverse bars which are located within the slot, as shown in Fig. 1 of the accompanying drawings. It is also provided at the top with a suitably-constructed hook, over which may be placed the reins, so that they will be out of the way when the wagon is being loaded. This hook also serves the purpose of suspending two sections of the binding-pole, so as to leave it within easy reach when the wagon is loaded. end is provided a socket, e, to the rear of which is pivoted a link, F, which engages with the hook f, located on the upper side of the adjacent portion of the binder-pole E, the front end of which is reduced in size and provided with shoulders, so that its end may enter the socket c. This binderpole is provided with two or more similar joints, and the last section of the same is of sufficient length to extend over the rear end'of the wagon-body. By thus joining the binding-pole the same may be easily handled and taken apart, and the links and hooks located upon the upper side of the same will hold the parts securely together when a downward pressure is eX- erted at the ends.

When the wagon is loaded and the binderpole placed in position, we secure to the same a clamp, G, which consists of two members, 9 g, which are pivoted to each other at theirlower portion, as shown at it. Each of these members is provided, at a pointabove the .pivot 71 with a perforation, h, within which are secured the ends of the cord H. This clamp is also provided above its pivoted portion with semicircular openings i, which areof about the same size as the binding-pole, so that when the clamp is closed, as shown in full lines in Fig. 3, the parts will be secured to each other.
