To @ZZ whom 7'?) 71mg/ concrmf y Beit known thatI, BARNnnn A. KUFMANN, in the county of .Vayu-ef and State of Michigan, have invented new and useful improvements iu Cigarettes,- and I dohereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, which forms a part of this specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in the inanuiucture of cigarettes which arc provided with a non-removable and projecting mouth-piece.
The invention consists in the peculiar coustruction of the cigarette,` so that the filler will be thoroughly secured and protected by a suitable binder and wrapper, the covered end of the mouth-piee being` secured between the filler and bint er, and the wrapper secured to the mouth-piece and binder, as 1'nore. .i`ully hereinafter described. y
In the accompanying drawing, in which my improvement is shown in section, A represents the filler, inelosed within a paper binder, B, and between the ends of said binder and l :filler the mouth-piece C is secured by means of any suitable paste or adhesive compound which will secure theinclosed end ofthe mouthpiece to the inside oi' the lbinder and outside-l the eller. after which the wrapper'D, which is preferably made of tobacco-paper, Ais put on tin the usual manner of wrapping cigars, thex free end of such wrapper being pastedior gummedgto thebinder where the latterincloses the covered end of the mouth-piece. T iieprojecting end of the mouth-piece enables the smoker to enjoy the cigarette without having his lips come into contact-with the wrapper or bi/nder, and the filler is prevented from being drawnlintothernouthbyinclosingin themouthpiece a small. wad of cotton or other suit-able ner wall.
. substance at the termination of the filler with= in the inclosed end of said mouthpiece.
' I am aware that there are many ways o f nianulacturing cigarettes with binders, wrappers, and mouth-pieces arranged in Various ways with relation to each other-as, for instance, as is shown in the'United States Patent No. 59,485, and EnglishvPatent No. 2,559 of 1880; but I am not aware that any have been constructed wherein the parts have been arranged so that the inclosed end of the mouthpiece has been secured between the filler and binder and secured to the latter upon' its in- I deern'it important that the mouthpiece be secured to the inside of the binder and between the binder and 4filler, for in this vway the binder not only serves to retain the tobacco, but secures the mouth -piece and ller together, so thatin case. the outer wrapper, D, should become broken, as is Very often the case, the mouth-piece will still be ysecured tov the binder, and hence there isno danger of its falling off, whereas in the cases above mentioned, when the outer 'wrapper becomes broken, there is nothing to prevent the -m0uthpiece from separating from the rollen they per. v,
Vhat I claim as my invention is y 'Acigarette composed of a filler, A, binder B, mouth-piece C, secured between the ends of said binderand filler-,and secured to the former upon its inner wall, and a wrapper, D,"ine1osing the whole and 'gummed to the binder where it incloses the mouth-piece, substantially as herein shown and described.
