Description

(No ModeL) P. KALISH.
GARIER- CLASP. 7 No. 297,080. Patented Apr. 15, 1884.
Wifn asses: In Van/far":
J a. Jan/444 Y M 494% j 7 NITED TATES PHILIP KALISH, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
GARTER-CLAS P.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 297,080, dated April 15, 1884.
Application filed June 4, 1883. Renewed March 6, 1884. (N0 model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, PHILIP KALISH, of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garter-Fasteners; and I herebydeclare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to which my invention relates to make and use the same, reference being had to the aceompanyiiig drawings, forming a part hereof, and in which- Figure 1 represents a perspective view of my garter-fastener attached to the top of a stocking. Fig. 2 represents the maleand female parts of the garterclasp separated, and the fastener open. Fig. 3 represents the upper edge of the fastener.
Like letters of reference refer to like parts.
The object of my invention is to provide a garter-fastener that may be attached to the garment over which the garter is fastened, so that when the clasp is opened the garter will remain attached to the garment, and which may readily be attached or removed from the garment at pleasure;
In the drawings, A and B represent the female and male parts of a garter-clasp, of which the part B is formed in the usual manner; but in my improved clasp the part A is divided longitudinally into two parts, which are united on one edge by a pin, 6, forming a hinge on which the two parts a I) move, and of which the edges adjoining each other are preferably serrated, as shown; or they may be made plain. On the upper edge, opposite the pin 0, the part a is provided with a hook, d, adapted to pass over and embrace the spur 0, formed on the part Z1. Slots are made through the parts a and B, through which the garter f is fastened in the usual manner.
To attach the fastener, the jaws a b are opened, and a small fold, t, of the garment is passed between the parts a b, and then the jaws of the part A are forced together, so that the hookand spur d a will be engaged. This construction and operation permanently but removably secures the garter to the garment, and thereby prevents it from becoming lost or mislaid.
That I claim is- The clasp AB, whereof the partAis formed of the parts or jaws a b, which are movably united at one edge with a pin, e, and provided at the other with the fastening device at c.
PHILIP KALISH. WVitnesses:
WM. ZIMMERMAN, B. F. SMITH.
