1 Claim. (Cl. 15330) This invention relates to a vacuum and blower apparatus designed primarily for use by barbers in removing hair clippings.
An important object of the invention is to provide an apparatus of this character wherein the body portion of the apparatus is substantially tubular in formation with open ends so that the person manipulating the apparatus may operate the apparatus and blow away loose hair cuttings, and by reversing the apparatus, position the same so that loose hair cuttings that may be present within the shirt collar will be removed by the suction or vacuum produced.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists of certain novel details of construction and combinations of parts, hereinafter more fully described and pointed out in the claim, it being understood that changes may be made in the construction and arrangements of parts without departing from the spirit of the invention as claimed.

'Fig. 7 is a diagram of the electric circuit used in connection with the apparatus.
Referring to the drawings in detail, the device comprises a hollow body indicated generally by the reference character 5, the ends of the body being tapered towards their outer extremities and open, as clearly shown by Fig. 3 of the drawings.
The body includes tubular sections 6 and 7, the section 6 having a reduced offset portion 8, over which the inner end of the section 7 is positioned and secured by means of screws 9.
The reference character 10 indicates a stationary supporting ring for the electric motor 11, which has the usual motor shaft 12 on which the fan or blower 13 is secured, the fan or blower having its blades pitched so that a blast of air will be directed through the open end 14 of the body and a suction will be produced through the end 15 of the body.
The end 15 of the body is provided with slots or notches 16 that extend inwardly from the marginal flange 17 of the end 15, the flange 17 being provided as a stop to support the end 15 of the body in proper relation with the States Patent 0 "ice neck of the person over which the device is being moved, so that the vacuum produced by the suction will pass through the end 15 of the body and will operate to draw loose hair clippings from the collar of the person, on which the device is being operated.
The reference character 17 indicates a handle which is secured to the body by means of screws 18, the handle having a curved end that fits snugly against the surface of the body providing a convenient handle for effecting manipulation of the device for accomplishing the purpose of the invention.
The reference character 19 indicates an electric wire which is connected with the motor and may be plugged into the usual service socket (not shown).
In order that the device may be hung in a convenient out-of-the-way location, a supporting ring 20 is secured to the side of the body directly opposite to the handle, whereby the device may be readily lifted from a supporting hook for use. The electric circuit embodying wire 19 is controlled by the conventional switch 21 and is conveniently located adjacent to the handle so that it may be readily operated to control the operation of the device.
In the use of the device, when a barber has completed the cutting of the hair, the device is used by positioning the end 14 of the device adjacent to the head, moving the end of the device over the scalp. The loose hair clippings will be blown from the head of the person whose hair has been cut. The device is then reversed, using the end 15 around the neck and collar of the person whose hair is cut, for removing by vacuum any loose clippings which may then fall over or onto the collar between the neck and shirt. Because the slots 16 are provided adjacent to the end 15 and extend through the flange 17, it will be seen that the slots establish communication between the interior of the body and the atmosphere and prevent the clothing from blocking the suction of air through the end 15 of the body to defeat the purpose of the vacuum producing end of the body.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed A portable suction and blast producing apparatus for removing loose hair cuttings, comprising an open ended tubular body tapering in opposite directions from the center of the body to the open ends thereof providing reduced end portions, the marginal edge of one open end extending inwardly providing an annular flange, said flange having slots extending inwardly from the edge thereof, said slots continuing for a distance along the wall of said body and disposed longitudinally of said body, an electric motor operated fan mounted Within said body intermediate the ends thereof adapted to blow hair through the other end of said body and draw hair through said slots in the wall of said body, and a handle for effecting manipulation of said apparatus.
