DEVICE FOR SPORTSMEN Filed July 21, 1959 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 INVENTOR DAN BEHL AGENT DEVICE FOR SPORTSMEN Dan Behl, Box 883, Custer, S. Dak.
Filed July 21, 1959, Ser. No. 828,510
3 Claims. (Cl. 206-16) This invention relates to sporting goods and, more particularly, to an accessory for sporting activities.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a utility case for various sport activities, such as fishing and hunting, which will enable various equipment to be conveniently and safely carried from place to place.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a storage case having various compartments and storage devices contained therewithin for carrying various articles in a safe and convenient manner.
Still an additional object of the present invention is to provide a sporting utility case of the above type which will enable various objects to be conveniently arranged for ready access at all times.
Other objects of the invention are to provide a sporting utility case bearing the above objects in mind which is of simple construction, has a minimum number of parts, is inexpensive to manufacture, and efficient in operation.
For other objects and for a better understanding of the invention, reference may be had to the following detailed description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a utility case made in accordance with the present invention in a closed position;
Figure 2 is a top plan view of the case shown in Figure 1 in an open position;
Figure 3 is a transverse cross sectional view taken along line 33 of Figure 2;
Figure 4 is a transverse cross sectional view taken along line 44 of Figure 2;
Figure 5 is an enlarged fragmentary cross sectional view of certain parts of the present invention.
Referring now more in detail to the drawing, a utility case 10 made in accordance with the present invention is shown to include a base 12 having upwardly diverging side walls which define a compartment 14. A removable tray 16 of substantially shorter length than the base 12, is slidably supported within the upwardly diverging side walls of the base 12 for selective longitudinal movement to any desired position. A plurality of partitions 18 divide the tray 16 into a plurality of smaller compartments for conveniently carrying small objects in a neat and convenient manner.
A closure member 20 hingedly secured to one of the side walls of the base 12, by means of hinges 22, is selectively movable between a normally closed and an open position. The downwardly diverging side walls of the closure 20 overlie the upwardly diverging side walls of the base 12, to provide a weather tight seal that will prevent the entry of dust, moisture, and the like. Latch elements 24 may be used to secure the closure 20 in a closed position upon the base 12.
A storage tray 25 is detachably secured to the interior Patented Nov. 8, 1960 of the closure 20 and may be used for carrying various cards, pamphlets, and the like. An elongated tray 26 is also detachably mounted within the closure 20 and has a plurality of hook type anchors 28 secured to one extremity thereof. Each one of the hook type anchors 28 is provided with an adjustable anchor 30, each such adjustable anchor 30 having a slide plate 32 and a depending stem 36 which is slidably received within an elongated slot 34 in the wall of the compartment 26. A mounting plate 38 secured to the innermost end of the stem 36 of the adjustable anchor 30 is attached to one end of a tension spring 40 that is secured at its opposite end to a fixed part of the compartment. Thus, objects such as belts, pamphlets, fish hooks, and the like may be secured in aligned positions upon the fixed and adjustable anchors 28, 30.
All of the various compartments 25, 26 of the closure 20 may be removed for use and for servicing activities. A slidable tray 16 in the base 12 is also removable to provide access to the interior of the base 12 and to allow use of the tray 16 apart from the case. Therefore, various objects of different sizes and shapes may be conveniently carried for use at all times.
While various changes may be made in the detail construction, it shall be understood that such changes shall be within the spirit and scope of the present invention as defined by the appended claims.
What I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent of the United States is:
1. A sporting utility case comprising, in combination, an upwardly opening base, a closure hingedly carried upon said base for selective movement between an open and a closed position, a tray removably supported within said base, storage means carried by said closure accessible in response to the rotation of said closure toward said open position, said base comprising a pair of upwardly converging side walls defining an elongated interior compartment, said tray being substantially shorter than said base, said tray being slidably supported upon the interior surfaces of said upwardly diverging side walls of said base, said closure comprising an elongated cover member having a pair of downwardly diverging side walls overlying said upwardly diverging side walls of said base in said closed position, said storage means comprising a plate defining a shallow tray removably secured within said closure, a set of fixed anchors integral with one end of said tray, a slidable anchor for each one of said fixed anchors slidably carried upon said tray for adjustable longitudinal movement with respect to each of said fixed anchors.
2. The combination according to claim 1, further comprising spring means acting between said tray and each one of said slidable anchors normally urging said slidable anchors in a direction longitudinally away from said fixed anchors.
3. A combination according to claim 2, further comprising a storage tray detachably secured within said closure in longitudinally spaced apart relationship with said anchor supporting tray.
