Description

Erica.
CULTIVATOR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 295,353, dated March 18,1884.
Application filed November 21, 1883. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, WILLIAM H. CLARK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Harper, in the county of Harper and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cultivators; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it apperiains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters or figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
Figure l of the drawings is aperspective detail view. Fig. 2 is arear elevation. Fig. 3 is a side elevation. Fig. t is a plan view, and Figs. 5, 6, and 7 are detail views.
This invention has relation to cultivators; and it consists in the construction and novel arrangement of devices, as will be hereinafter fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claim appended.
Referring by letter to the accompanying drawings, a. designates the cultivator-beam, which is made in two sections, 12 and f.- The front section, b, is provided with an engaginghook, c, atits forward end. and a lip orlaterallyperforated bifurcation, cl. at the curve 9, near its rear end. The rear secti0n,f, of the beam a. forms also the standard, and is connected by a lateral pivot, g, to the rear end of the section 6, near the middle of section f. The forward end of the section f is provided with a flat perforated head, it, which rests in the perforated bifurcation cl, and is rendered adjustable vertically by a pin, 27, to regulate the depth of the cultivator tooth or shovel. The lower end of the pivoted section f is provided with a of the boltm rest ng in the countersink. The
shank of the bolt in is provided with a washer, a, and a wrench -nut, o, for tightening the bolt in its seat.
The cultivator-foot p is made fiat for a-portion of its length, and is provided with a diamond-shaped point, p, and its shank or upper portion, q, is bent slightly back and extends up in a round arm, q, to fit the eye of the bolt m, through which it passes, and is drawn down tightly in the concave seat when the wrenchnut 0 is turned up. The body 1 of the shovel is rectangular in form, and has its lower edge provided with an n nder bevel, s, and is securely bolted to the plow-foot, its lower edge being nearly in ,line with the side corners of the diamond.
vided with an over bevel to fit the under bevel of the body 0* of the shovel, and is removably secured to the point p of the diamond, so that it may be removed and replaced when worn out.
It will be observed that the point of the cultivator-foot 19 extends below the shovel'body r, and that it is only necessary to renew the point if when it is worn, which can be done by simply -removing the bolt u and nut 12, which hold it in place.
The device is cheap, simple, and easily repaired and adjusted.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In a cultivator, a sectional beam, the front portion of which is provided with a laterallyperforated bifurcation near its curved rear end,
the rear end of the front section, and provided at its front end with a flat perforated head to fit the bifurcation on the front section, and a securing-pin to regulate the adjustment of the sections, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
XVILLIAM H. CLARK.
WVitnesses:
O. J. FINcn, H. G. KEEPER.
The shovelpoint t has its upper edge proin combination with a rear section pivoted to
