Specification of Letters Iatent N0. 2,950, dated February 10, 1843.
ing the lamp with a spiral thread or male screw A on the circumference of the top of the lamp stand B, corresponding with a spiral groove or female screw C formed on the inside of the lamp or lard holder D for the purpose of depressing the wicks as the lard is consumed, or in other words bringing the burners nearer to the surface of the melted lard as the consumption goes on, by simply turning the lard holder D to the right while the stand B remains permanent,
the wick tubes E descending into the cavity F in the center of the stand B. By this operation the lard is kept always in contact with the flame by a gradual and easy movement of the screw. There are other improvements in the lamp but this is the most essential.
The stand B may be constructed in the usual manner except the head of the same upon which the lard rests and on which the male screw around the circumference of the same is formed. The lard holder D may also be constructed as is usual with the exception of the addition of the female screw on the inside thereof. The wick tubes E and basin Gr are likewise made in the usual manner. 7
