FEED-WATERA REGULATOR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N0. 294,705, dated March 4,1884.

Be it known that I, DAvID C. VALTER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Toledo, in the county of Lucas and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Feed-Water Regulator for Steam-Boilers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in feedwater regulators for steam-boilers, in which is placed, in close proximity to theboiler, an upright cylindrical chamber containing a float operating a valve delivering steam to a positive-acting steam feed-pump; and the objects of my improvements are, first, to keep water in the boiler'to its proper height; second, to provide means whereby steam `is delivered to the steam feed-pump direct from the boiler, the object being to avoid creating a reduction of pressure in the float-chamber, which causes the water in said chamber to rise vabove the'water in the boiler, thereby closing the valve before the proper time; third, of, an overfio f-pipe placed just above the water-line. In case the water rises in the chamber above the proper height it will flow through said pipe back into the boiler, thus preventing the, float from rising too high. I attain these objects by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings, l in which;

In Fig. l, A is an upright cylindrical chamber containing a float, h, (cylindrical in form,)

In Fig. 2 the Valve-shaft m extends through the casing of the float-chamber, the fioatbeing connected to the shaft m in the manner shown at a" by the valve-arm f and connecting-rod g.

P is a weight secured to one end of the rod O. By shifting this rod from one side to another the valve may be regulated without reference to the float.
Z is a steam-whistle placed above the upper wing of the valve.
In case the water in the boiler gets too low the upper wing of the valve passes the port, giving steamto the whistle, thus giving low- Vwater alarm. The reverse of this movement gives alarm for too much water..
The pipe-o1J is situated just above the water- Y line, between the iloat-chamber and boiler, and
in case of any reduction of pressure in the chamber the water will iiow back into the boiler and prevent the iioat from rising.
