UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM ALONZO'LOVELIS, OF BINGEN, ARKANSAS. I
LUBRICATIORA SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 294,480, dated March 4, 1884. Application filed December 7, 1883. (No model.)
To alZl uhom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, WILLIAM A. Lovnnrs, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bingen, in the county of Hempstead and State of Arkansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Lubricating Maehincry; and I do hereby declare the following to be a'full, clear, .and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in lubricating machinery, and has for its object to furnish a device simple and cheap in its construction, which may be applied directly to journal-boxes or other parts of moving machinery requiring a lubricant, or be. placed at some distance therefrom, the communication between the two'being effected by means of rigid or flexible pipes. These objects are attained by the mechanism illustrated in the ac companying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which Figure l is an elevation. Fig. 2 is a detached view of the oiler-plug. Fig. 3 is another view of the same when turned one-quar ter of a revolution, and shows the passage-way for the lubricant from the oil box or cup to the orifice communicating with the machinery; Fig. 4 is a bottom view of the oiler-plug. Fig. 5 is a plan'view of the box with its oiler-plug and cover removed.- Fig. 6 is a plan of the box-cover. Fig. 7 is a sectional view.
The letter Aindicates the oil-box. B is the oiler-plug. G is a recess cut in one side of the plug B, and D is a V-shape out in the bottom thereof, which forms the passage for the oil or other lubricant from the oil-receptacle A through the opening a, into the opening 0,
thence through the recesses G and 'D, out of the bottom of the box, into the oil-hole of the machinery, or through a suitable pipe, G,
maybe provided with suitable stops to limit the motion. A quarter-turn in one direction is intended to shut off the flow of oil, and a quarter-turn in the other is to permit the oil to pass through the passages on, C, D, and G, thence to the machinery to be lubricated.
Having described my invention, what I desire to secure by Letters Patent, and to claim, 1s
1. In an oil box 'or cup, the box A, having oil-receptacle A, openings-a and O, in combination with an oiler-plug, B, having oil-passages O D, substantially as described, and for the purposes set forth.
2. In an oil box or cup, the box A, having sliding cover F, oil-receptacle A, openings a O, and oiler-plug B, having passages O D, in combination with pipe G, substantially as de: scribed, and for the purposes set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
WILLIAM ALONZO LQVELIS.
