Description

FREDK. W. WARNER, OF EAST HADDAM, CONNECTICUT.
IMPROVEMENT IN MOWlNG-MACHINES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 29,425, dated July 3], 1860.
To all tti/1.0m it may concern:
Beit known that I, FREDERICK W. WAR- NER, of East Haddam, county ot' Middlesex, and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and usel'ul Improvements in Mowing- Machines; and I do hereby declare that the same is described and represented in the following specification and drawing.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my improvement, I will proceed to describe its construction andoperation, referring t0 the drawing.
My invention relates to an improved constructionand arrangement ot the main frame which carries the gearing in relation to the draft-frame, drivers seat, and cutting apparatus, as hereinafter fully described.
In the accompanying drawing is shown an isonietrical View representing the parts partly by red or dotted lines.
A is the master-wheel, having an internal gear which operates the machine.
B is the shaft or axle, to which the masterwheel is secured, and upon or by which all ot' the other parts are supported.
A is a wheel upon the outer end ofthe shaft B to support and balance the operating parts.
C are the thills by which the machine is drawn.
D is the frame-work, (to which the several parts of the machine are attached,)secured loosely to the shalt B.
E is a short horizontal shaft secured to the upper portion of the framework, havingapinion-gear, F, secured on the inner end in such a manner as to allow it to mesh into the internalA gear of the master-wheel A. Upon the other end is secured a bevel-gear Wheel, G.
H is an upright shaft having a small bevelwheel, I, which meshes into and is opera-ted upon by the gear G. On thelower end of said' shaft is secured a crank-wheel, J.
K is the cutter-case, secured diagonally to the frame-work D. The fingers are made in the usual way.
L is the cutter-blade, secured to two parallel arms, P, which are of equal length and secured to the case the same distance apart as they are on the blade, so as to produce an equal motion of the blade.
M is a connecting-arm from the blade L to the pin in the crank-wheel.
N is the operators seat, secured to the thills C.
O is a footpiece(beingaportion oftbet'rame- Work) extending forward of the shaft B, so that the operator may keep one foot thereon, and thereby lift the case trom the ground or over any obstacle which may be in theway. The cover or lid of the case is'removed to show more clearly the construction and arrangement.A
I believe I have thus described my improvement so as to enable a person skilled to make and use the sante; and also that the advantage to be derived in its use will be understood there fro m.
I do not claim the device as described in a Patent No. 13,285, dated July 17, 155.3.
The combination of. the frameextending in front of the main axle with the draft-frame or thills, drivers seat,-and cutting apparatus, the front end ot' frame D serving as a treadle to elevate the cutting apparatus, and the several parts being` constructed and arranged in the manner described.
I FREDERICK W. WARNER. lVitnesses:
EDWARD W. Buss,
JEREMY W. BLISS.
