Description

Dec. 24, 1957 H. KOHN 2,817,158 DRYING HELMET OR SIMILAR 0 CE IN PARTICULAR A HAIR-DRYING LMET Filed July 2, 1956 United States Patent ()fiiice 2,817,158 Patented Dec. 24, 1957 DRYING HELMET R SIMILAR DEVICE IN PARTICULAR A HAIR-DRYING HELMET Hans Kohn, The Hague, Netherlands, assignor to N. V. Industriele Onderneming W. H. Braskamp, Voorburg, Netherlands, a corporation of the Netherlands Application July 2, 1956, Serial No. 595,200 Claims priority, application Netherlands May 2, 1956 1 Claim. (CI. 34-90) The invention relates to a drying helmet or a similar device partly enclosing and heating a persons head, in particular a hair-drying helmet of the type commonly used in hairdressing establishments. Such devices involve the drawback that owing to the heat required, for example, in a drying helmet for drying the hair the face of the person to be treated is unpleasantly heated.
The invention has for its object to obviate this drawback in a simple manner. According to the invention this object is achieved by the drying helmet being fitted with means for directing a flow of cool air at the face of the person to be treated. In this way the latter is no longer incommoded by the heat radiation and the hot air circulation from the helmet above the face. A very simple solution consists in that according to the invention on the front of the drying helmet is fitted a small fan, adjustable about a horizontal spindle, e. g. a desk fan. This fan can be adjusted in different directions, as a result of which the action of the flow of cool air is variable. It is also possible to fit a separate fan in a special space of the helmet, in which case this space should have a downwardly directed outlet channel in front. In a drying helmet such a fan can be driven by the same motor as the drying fan of the helmet itself. Further, in front at the lower edge of the helmet an adjustable air-guiding plate it preferably fitted at some distance from this edge, by which means the flow of air can be directed more eifectively at the face of the person in question.
When a desk fan, fitted to the helmet, is used, this involves the additional advantage that the establishment thus contains several fans which, when a given drying helmet or several of them is or are not being used, can be employed for ventilating the establishment itself or for cooling the stalf in the establishment during their work, which may be of importance, because for various treatments use is also made of other heat-emitting apparatus.
The drawing illustrates some embodiments of the subject of the invention.
Fig. 1 shows a drying helmet 2 mounted on a tripod 1, on the front of which helmet has been fitted a desk fan 3 with a pillar 4. This fan is adjustable about a spindle 5 and at 6 has a push-button for switching the fan in and out. At the lower edge a guide plate 7 with a handle 8 has been pivotally fitted to the helmet at 9.
Fig. 2 shows another embodiment, in which at the top of the helmet in a space 10 has been fitted a rotor 11, which is driven by the motor 12 of the drying helmet and conveys cool air via the channel 13 and the adjustable guide plate 7 to the face of the person whose head is enclosed in the helmet.
Fig. 3 shows a similar solution to that of Fig. 2, in which the motor 14 is located in the space from which, by means of the rotor 15, cool air is brought to the face of the person to be treated, while the drying fan 16 is located in the chamber separated from this upper space by a wall.
What I claim is:
A drying helmet or similar device for partly enclosing and heating a persons head comprising a portable fan, a horizontal spindle mounted on said helmet for adjustably supporting said fan, an adjustable air-guiding plate at the lower edge of the helmet, and means for supporting said plate spaced from the lower edge.
