' S. S'HREPFLER, Jr.
PARLOR 0011 HANGER. No. 281,308. Patented July 17, 1883.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.-
S AMUEL SHREFFLER, JR, OF J OLIET, ILLINOIS.
PARLOR-DOOR HANGER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 281,308, dated July 17, 1883.
Application filed Jannary20, 1883. (N0 model.)
T0 at. whom it may concern.-
Be'it known that I, SAMUEL SHREEELER, Jr., a citizen of the United States of America, residing at J oliet, in the county of Will and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and vuseful Improvements in Parlor Door Hangers, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
Figure 1 is aside elevation; Fig. 2, a vertical section of the upper end of the door having the hanger applied thereto; Fig. 3, a ver' tical cross-section on line X ofFig. 1; Fig. 4, a perspective view of the lower end of one of the diagonal slides, a and Fig. 5 a perspective view of the slide P.
This invention consists in the mode of adjusting the riderbar a of the door-hanger up or down, so as to cause the door 13 to hang plumb.
Referring to the drawings, B represents the door, having a rider-bar, (0, attached at each upper corner of the door, which rider-bars a ride upon the axle of the double tread-wheels o c on the tracks D D. The lower parts of the rider-bars are provided with diagonal slides a a which pass down through a metal plate, a, having suitable slots in it to permit the slides to pass down through, as shown particularly in Fig. 2. The metal plate a" passes over the corner of the door downward, as shown in said Fig. 2, to make it firm and furnish a seat for the set-screw s to turnin. The slide a of the rider-bar a is provided with lugs d, as shown particularly in Fig. 4, extending each way. I
The slide P (shown in perspective in Fig. 5) is placed immediately beneath the metal plate a, asshown in Figs. 2 and 3, so its slot P will be'directly beneath and correspond with the slot in plate a, through which the slide a passes. The slide a 1 passes down through slot P of the slide P. This slide P is movable horizontally under the plate a" by means of the set-screw s, and as it moves, the lugs d on the slide a impinge against the inclines P in the slide P. When the set-screw is turned it will draw the slide P toward the corner of the door, pulling the inclines P upunder the lugs d, thereby elevating the door at that corner, as is obviousfrom the construction of the parts. When the set-screws is unscrewed, of course the slide P will move backward, permitting the lugs d to slide up the inclines P,
and thereby lower that corner of the door. It
is intended to furnish either corner of the door with these slides P, so each corner may be elevated or lowered alike. The slide P slides in proper channels formed on the under side of the plate a, so they cannot become dis arranged. It is in the use of this slide P, in
connection with the lugs d on the slide a that this invention consists.
I am aware similar slides have been used on such a rider-bar, but none having the lugs (1 arranged to operate with such a slide, P.
In order to prevent the rider-bar a from rubbing along against the inner sides of the on the inner-sides next the rider-bar, instead of having any flanges on the wheels. This is a much better construction than flanges on the wheels, and keeps the rider-bar directly in the center between the tracks, as shown in Fig. 3. 7
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is as follows, to wit:
In a parlor-door hanger, the combination of the slide P, having the slot P and inclines P, set-screw s, rider-bar a, plate a, and slide a having the lugs d, all adapted to, operate as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature, in presence of two witnesses, this 17th day of January, 1883. i
SAMUEL SHREFFLER, JR.
