1 Claim. (Cl. 2-240) This invention relates to a combined stocking clamping garter and stocking.
An object of this invention is to provide a comparatively simple and novel device for supporting a stocking on the leg.
Another object of the invention is to provide a garter that is easily applied to the leg, and which is durable in construction and efficient in operation.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, this invention comprises certain novel constructions, combinations, and arrangements of parts as will be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and more particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In the drawings Fig. 1 is a fragmentary view of a stocking, showing a fractional part of the garter constructed in accordance with this invention, as said garter appears in the stocking.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged sectional view taken on line 22, Fig. 1, looking in the direction of the arrows.
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary perspective view of the garter, with a portion of a stocking applied thereto.
Fig. 4 is a loose garter, which shows another embodiment of this invention.
Fig. 5 is a sectional view, taken on line 5-5, Fig. 4, and looking in the direction of the arrows, and
Fig. 6 is a fragmentary perspective view of this arrangement.
Referring to the drawings by numerals, 1 designates a foam rubber band. On the outside of band 1 is an elastic fiber band 2. This fiber band 2 is of stiffer material than the foam rubber band 1, whereby the whole device is stiffened, but not to the extent of aflecting its efliciency.
The two bands 1 and 2 are held in an assembled position by means of over stitching 3 that forms a webbing-like nitcd States Patent 0 ice covering for the edges of the bands. This is seen clearly upon referring to Fig. 2 and Fig. 1. The stocking 4 is brought up and placed over the top of the garter, Fig. 2, but only extends a relatively short distance down the inside so as to leave suflicient surface of the foam rubber band exposed to grip the leg and thereby eflicienbly retain the garter in position. The stocking may be glued on, or sprayed on, or stitched on to the device.
In Figs. 4, 5 and 6 I have shown a loose garter 5 comprised by the base 1. When the stocking 4 is in position the garter 5 is slipped on, and it grabs partly on the stocking 4 and partly on the skin of the wearer; of course, in this case it is worn a little tighter.
This garter has enough slack to allow the rest of the construction as described to stretch and retract when the knee bends.
While I have described the preferred embodiments of the invention and illustrated the same in the accompanying drawings, certain minor changes or alterations may appear to one skilled in the art to which this invention relates during the extensive manufacture of the same, and I, therefore, reserve the right to make such changes or alterations as shall fairly fall within the scope of the appended claim.
What I claim is:
As a new article of manufacture, a stocking clamping garter comprised of a flat foam rubber band, a flat elastic fibre band of stiffer material than said foam rubber band, overstitching securing said bands together at both edges, a stocking fixedly secured to said garter adjacent to its lower edge whereby a portion of said garter engages said stocking and a portion engages the leg of the wearer, said first and second bands being of the same width and having their upper and lower edges registering, and said stitching overlying the edges of said bands to form a web-like covering over said edges.
