It .isia' further object of the present-invention toprm vide animproved mounting for welders"helmets,' face shields and the like which overcomes the diflicul'ties encountered with the devices heretofore available.
It lisa further object of the present-invention to provide' a mounting for welders helmets, face shields'and the; like which is simple yet sturdy inconstruction, and which ;can:be readily applied to helmets and-face shields now inuse.
'It-is' a further object of the present invention 1t01pr0- vide a mounting for'welders helmets, face *shieldsiand .the like, with which the interconnected parts can be readily detached and the operation of which "will 'be readily understood by the user.
Other. objects and advantageous featuresof'theinven tion willflbe apparent from the specification and claims.
The .na,ture. and characteristic features of the'invention. will :be more readily understood from the'following description, taken in connection with 'the accompanying drawings forming part thereof, in which:

The mountingblocks 21 preferably, havetheirlinner faces 22 "inclined to conform-to the slope of I'theside portions 12" and are mounted so that-the longitudinal axes'of the nrountingblocks 21will be disposedin align.- ment. A locking pin 27 is provided in .theflbore 23" andhas a shoulder 28 for. limiting the outward movement .of: the pin 27, as determined by the shoulder .24, andtoserve as an abutment for a. spring-29 whichlnormally urges it outwardly. The'spring29 'abuts,,at its. other end, against-a threaded plug 30. The plug30 .isin threaded engagement in the threadedend 26 r 'of .thebore .24.-
The locking pins 27 each has an end portion 31 .normally extending outwardly beyond the boreextension 25 and has apart 32 ofreduced-idiameter. adjacent its terminal or free end .for. purposes to. beexplained;
The-'sideportions 17 'of the shield 15-have-opp osed sockets 35 mounted thereon for thezreception of the mounting blocks 21. The sockets 35 arecomplemental in shapeto the mounting blocks 21, inthesidewallportions'thereof have lockingslotslwithiinnericircular portions" 3610f a: diameter correspondinguto. thatot; the end portion 3101? the pin, and slots 37 extendifig to the outer edges of the sockets 35 of a width corresponding to the diameter of the pin part 32.
The pins 27 normally have end portions 31 engaged in the slot portions 36 to hold the sockets 35 in position on the mounting blocks 21. Separation of the sockets 35 from the mounting blocks 21 can be effected by pressing the pins 27 inwardly, against the force of the springs 29, to bring the parts 32 to a position at the slots 37 thereby to permit the axial separation of the sockets 35 from the mounting blocks 21.
The sockets 35 can be mounted on the interior of the side walls 17 of the shield 15 in substantial axial alignment in any desired manner but it is preferred to provide an adjustable connection, on each side of the shield 15,
head 41 is adapted to engage with a friction washer 44 which inturn engages with the inner face of a flange 45 at the inner end of the socket 35. A friction washer 46 is provided in engagement with the outer face of the flange 45 and with the inner face of the side wall 17. The noncircular shank 42 is preferably in engagement with a complemental opening 47 in the side wall -17 to prevent the turning of the stud 40.
On the stud 40, and in contact with the outer face of the sidewall 17, a metallic washer 48 is provided for engagement by a spring washer 49. The threaded end 43 extends through the washers 48 and 49 for engagement by an adjusting nut 50. By turning of the nut 50, the frictional drag imposed upon the turning of the supports for the sockets 35 and accordingly the freedom of movement of the face shield, can be varied to suit the desires of the user.
It will be seen that with the sockets 35 in locked engagement on the mounting block 21, the helmet 15 can be raised or lowered as desired, and by reason of the adjustable frictional drag imposed upon the sockets 35 the desired degree of tightness and frictional holding can be quickly attained by adjustment of the nuts 50.
If, at any time, it is desired to separate the helmet 15 from the hat 10, for use of the hat alone, or for any other purpose, this can be readily effected by pressing the pins 27 inwardly to their releasing positions and separating the sockets 35 from the mounting blocks 21. The resilient character of the hehnet is such that no ,difliculty is encountered in separating the wall portions 17 to the required extent. The helmet 15 can be quickly reattached to the hat 10 by a reverse of the operations required for separation.
" I claim:
1. In combination, a first member, a second member in spaced relation to said first member, and connecting means for connecting said members for relative rotation and for a quick detachable axial separation comprising a mounting projection secured to the exterior of said first member, a separable socket device axially aligned with said projection for the reception of said projection, said socket device and said projection being disposed between said members, interengaging portions on said projection and said socket device for releasably retaining said projection and socket device against axial separation, a member having a portion in rotatable engagement with said socket device and a portion extending through said second member, and adjusting means on said last member exteriorly disposed with respect to said second member for adjusting the freedom of rotatability of said first and second members.

In combination, a first member, a second member member, a separable socket device axially aligned with said projection for the reception of said projection, said socket device and said projection being disposed between said members, interengaging portions on said projection and said socket device for releasably retaining said projection and said socket deviceagainst axial separation, a member having a portion in rotatable engagement with said socket device and a portion extending through said second member and having an outer threaded end, and adjusting means on said threaded end exteriorly disposed with respect to said second member for adjusting the rotatability of said first and second members.
3. In combination, a first member having a fiat side portion, a second member having a flat side portion in spaced relation to said first mentioned side portion, and connecting means for connecting said members at said side portions for relative rotation and for quick detachable axial separation comprising an outwardly extending mounting projection secured to the exterior of said first mentioned side portion, a separable socket device axially aligned with said projection for the recep tion of said projection, said socket device and said projection being disposed between said portions, interengaging locking portions on said projection and said socket device for releasably retaining said projection and socket device against axial separation, ;a stud having a head in rotatable engagement in said socket device and a shank portion axially alined with said socket device and extending through said second member fiat portion in locked engagement with respect thereto, and adjusting means on said shank exteriorly disposed with respect to said second member for adjusting the freedom of rotatability of said first and second members.
4. In combination, a first member having a flat side portion, a second member having a flat side portion in spaced relation to said first mentioned side portion, and connecting means for connecting said members at said side portions for relative rotation and for quick detachable axial separation comprising an outwardly extending mounting projection secured to the exterior of said first mentioned side portion, a separable socket device axially aligned with said projection for the reception of said projection, said socket device and said projection being disposed between said portions, interengaging' locking portions on said projection and said socket device for releasably retaining said projection and socket device against axial separation, a stud having a head in rotatable engagement in said socket device and a shank portion extending through said second member fiat portion in locked engagement with respect thereto, said shank portion having a threaded end, and adjusting means on said threaded end exteriorly disposed with respect to said second member for adjusting the freedom of rotatability of said first and second members.
