3 Claims. (Cl. Mil-6.45)
COSMETIC This invention relates to holders for cosmetic sticks, such as lipsticks, cosmetic pencils and the like, and more particularly to a cosmetic stick holder with detachable illuminating means.
It has been known heretofore to mount lipsticks or similar cosmetic sticks for sliding movement within a sleeve-like holder and, furthermore, to combine such holder with a light source so as to enable the use of such cosmetics with the aid of a mirror even in the dark.
However, these known cosmetic stick holders with lighting means are open to the objection that they can be used exclusively for make-up purposes and that there is no possibility to utilize the light source separate from the cosmetic stick for other illuminating purposes.
It is therefore an object of the present invention to provide a cosmetic stick holder with detachable illuminating means, which is simple in construction, economical in operation and which allows the illuminating means to be readily detached from the stick holder so that at any time it can be used separately from said holder for illuminating purposes and then reattached thereto in the same simple and quick manner for make-up purposes in the dark.
Further objects and features of the invention will be readily apparent from the following description taken in connection with the only Figure of the accompanying drawing which illustrates by way of example a preferred embodiment of the invention in longitudinal section.
A sleeve-like outer casing 1 serving as receptacle for a cosmetic stick has at one of its ends a closing cap 2 hingedly connected thereto at 3 so that it cannot get lost as is frequently the case with the known closing caps. A socket 4 for holding one of the ends of a cosmetic stick 5 is slidable within said outer casing 1 by means of a transverse pin 6 mounted in said socket 4 and engaging in a helical slot 7 in a sleeve 8. The sleeve 8 is unshiftably held between the outer casing 1 and an inner sleeve 9 which is rotatable within the casing 1 and has a longitudinal slot 10 through which the pin 6 projects. The inner sleeve 9 is at its lower end provided with a widened portion 11 secured to a rotary plug member 12 made of transparent material, preferably plastic. By turning the plug member 12 with respect to casing 1 the cosmetic stick can be moved in axial direction into and out of the sleeve-like outer casing 1, respectively.
The plug member 12 can with one of its ends be detachably inserted and snugly fitted in a sleeve-like casing 13 forming a small flashlight and housing a battery 14 and light bulb 15. The flashlight is of a construction similar to that of the receptacle for the cosmetic stick. The battery 14 is fitted in a socket 16 having a transverse pin 17 engaging in a helical slot 18 of a sleeve 19. This sleeve 19 is positioned between the flashlight casing 13 and an inner sleeve 21 secured to a rotary base 22 and provided with a longitudinal slot 20 through which the pin 17 projects. By turning the base 22 with respect to casing 13 the battery 14 is moved in axial direction so that it can be brought into or out of contact with the light bulb which is mounted in a plate or disc 23 fitted in the casing 13 adjacent the upper end thereof.
To use the cosmetic stick in the dark, the battery 14 is brought into contact with the light bulb 15 by turning the base 22 and the light passes in the direction of arrows 24 through the transparent plug member 12 and about the sleeve-like receptacle 1 towards the free end of the cosmetic stick 5. The end of the plug member 12 adjacent the light bulb 15 may be provided with one.
or several annular ribs or bent in an inward direction,
mal to the longitudinal axis of the holder to provide an annular surface 26 through which the light of the bulb is passed in the direction of the arrows 24 in surrounding relation to the casing 1. To increase the lighting effect.
a reflector 27 may be fitted in the plug member 12. For this purpose it is also possible to provide a mirror coating or layer on the outer circumferential surface of the plug member 12 with the exception of the annular surface 26 thereof.
From the above detailed description of the invention, it is believed that the construction will at once he apparent, and while there is herein shown and described a preferred embodiment of the invention, it is nevertheless to be understood that minor changes may be made therein Without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
I claim:
1. A cosmetic stick holder with detachable illuminating means, comprising in combination two initially separated units, one of said units including a sleeve-like outer casing open at both ends and serving as receptacle for the cosmetic stick, an inner sleeve mounted for rotation in said outer casing and provided at one of its ends with a widened peripheral portion, a socket adapted to hold the cosmetic stick and mounted to slide within said inner sleeve in axial direction thereof, a plug member made of transparent material and secured in the widened peripheral portion of the inner sleeve, the second of said units including an outer casing open at both ends, a flashlight battery and a light bulb in said outer casing, the transparent plug member of the first of said units fitting snugly and detachably in the end of the second of said units which is adjacent the light bulb, the end of the transparent plug member adjacent the light bulb being bent in an inward direction and provided intermediate its ends with an enlarged circumferential portion formed in a plane extending substantially normal to the longitudinal axis of the holder to provide an annular surface directing the light of the light bulb about the circumference of the outer casing of the first unit towards the opposite end thereof from which the cosmetic stick projects when inadvanced position.
2. A cosmetic stick holder as set forth in claim 1, wherein a closing cap is hinged to the outer casing of the first unit at the end from which the cosmetic stick projects when in advanced position.
3. A cosmetic stick holder with detachable illuminating means, comprising in combination two initially separated units, one of said units including a sleeve-like outer casing open at both ends and serving as receptacle for the cosmetic stick, an inner sleeve mounted for rotation in said outer casing and provided at one of its ends with a widened peripheral portion, an intermediate sleeve disposed between said outer casing and said inner sleeve and held against movement in axial direction, a socket adapted to hold the cosmetic stick and mounted to slide within saidinn'er sleeve in axial direction thereof, a plug member made of transparent material and secured in the widened peripheral portion of the inner sleeve, and means operatively connecting said intermediate sleeve, inner sleeve and socket for shifting said'cosmetic stick-in said inner sleeve between an inner retracted position and an outer extended position upon rotation of said plug member; the
second of said units including an outer casing open at both ends, an inner sleeve mounted for rotationin said ing end of said inner sleeve, and means operatively' con-' necting said intermediate sleeve, inner sleeve and socket for shifting said flashlight battery in said inner sleeve 'between a retracted, light bulhdisengagingposition and an' advanced, light bulb engaging position upon rotation'of said base member; the transparent plug member 'ofthe first of said units fitting snugly and detachably in the end of the second of said units Which is adjacent the light bulb, the end of the transparent plug member adjacent the light bulb being bent in inward direction and provided intermediate its ends with an enlarged circumferential portion formed in a plane extending substantially normal to the longitudinal axis ofthe holder to provide an annular surface directing the light of the. light bulb about the circumference of the outer casing of the first unit'towards the opposite end thereoffrom which the cosmetic stick projects when in advanced position.
