Description

(No Model.) I n Z. T. HALL.
w PRICE TAG. No. 286,430. l Patented Got. 9, 1883.
` UNITED STATES TENT rines@ ZACHARY T. HALL, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
nelCarme'.`
SPECIFICATIOBT forming part of Letters Patent No. 286,430, dated October 9, 1883.
Application died March 12, 1833. (No model.)
To @ZZ whom t mag/concern:
Be it known that I, ZAcHAnY T.,HALL, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, have invented certain Improvements in Price-Tags, of which the following is a specification.
My invention consists of a price-tag constructed for ready application to fabrics in the peculiar manner fully described hereinafter.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is an edge view of my improved price-tag, part of the same beingturned up to show the pin; Fig. 2, a plan view; Fig. 3, a detached view of the pin which I prefer to use, and Figs. 4 and 5 views illustrating the manner in which I prefer to carry ont my invention.
The tag, as shown in Figs. l, 2, and 3,` consists of three parts-namely, the strip A, ot' pasteboard, stiff paper, or analogous material, the pin B, and the cover d, also of pasteboard, paper, or its equivalent. The strip A is folded at a, the upper fold, ce, being shorter than the lower fold, b. The pin I5 is composed of wire bent abruptly at y to form a shank, which is reduced to a comparatively sharp point, the head e, which is preferably formed by bending the wire, as shown, being in a plane at i p sisting of the combination of a singlet strip of right angles, or thereabont, to thel shank. The shank of the pin is passed through the fold a at a short distance from the outer end of the same, the head resting on the fold, and theV cover is then pastedor otherwise cemented to the top of the said upper fold, a, between which and the cover the head e of the pin is thus confined.
In attaching the tag thus constructed to fabrics the edge of the latter is passed between the two folds, which are pressed toward each other, so that the shank of the pin will pass through the fabric and through the fold Z1, beneath which it may be bent or clinched, thereby firmlyattaching t-he tag to the fabric.
Any letters or figures may be printed on the cover. -It may, for instance, bear the names of the parties who use the tag, or it may have any marks, letters, Sie., to indicate the characteror price of the fabric, and lines may be printed on the cover as guides for such writing as may be necessary.
The simplest and most substantial manner of constructing the improved tag is that' shown l. The withindescribed price-tag, the same consisting of a folded strip, A, of paper or pasteboard, the cover d, of like material, pasted toene of the folds of the strip, and a pin, B, passing through the said fold of the strip and having a head confined between the same and the cover d, all being combined substantially as set forth.
2. The withindescribed tag, the same conpaper or card-board bent to form the two folds ct and b and cover d, with a pin having a shank passed through the fold a, and a head confined between the said fold and cover, substantially as set forth.
. In testimony whereof I have signed my name ZAGHARY T. HALL.
lVitnesses HARRY L. AsHnNrnL'rnn, HARRY SMITH.
to form the cover d, which is v to this specification inthe presence of two subscribing witnesses.-
