HARRY A. CLAPP AND CHARLES F. BAKER, OF \VHIIE PIGEON, MICHIGAN.
ICE-ELEVATOR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 256,116, dated October 2, 1883,
A pplicaiion filed June 29, 1883. No model.)
To 41 whom it may concern.-
Be it known that we, HARRY A. (/LAPP and CHARLES F. BAKER, citizens of the United States, residing in \Vhite Pigeon, county of St. Joseph, and State of Michigan, have invented a new and useful Method of Filling Refrigerators, of which the following is a specificati on.
0111? invention relates to a new method of filling refrigerators, in which a sliding bed (for the ice) is used on an inclined plane; and
dinary construction, and are braced at a suitable distance apart by means of the crossbar-s 3, as shown. Near the lower end of this frame are secured to the said beams, bearings a, in which is supported the winding drum G,carrying an operating crank-arm, I. These side beams are rounded at opposite ends, as shown at H, to allow easy passage of the carriage when it has reached the top of the frame to dump its load. The carriage is composed of the vertical strips 0 c, which are designed to engage the inner sides of the rails or beams A, and thetransverse bars D, that are secured to the vertical and longitudinal strips, as shown, having their ends extended to bear upon the upper edge of the said beams A.
E indicates the back of the carriage, which is constructed of a bar of metal by bending it in a rectangular form, and which extends vertically at right angles to the carriage-bed, and bent arms 0 c, which are flattened and se cured to the side strips, 0, by means of screws or other suitable fastening devices.
Heretofore elevators have been. constructed in which the frames were provided with a crown-pulley and a wimling-drum to operate the carriage by means of a rope; but the earriages employed are of a difierent construe tion from ours. Our carriage is light, simple in construction, and much easier to operate than those at present in use.
Vhat we claim as our invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent. is-
In an ice-elevator, the carriage composed oi. the longitudinal strips 0 c, crossbars D, and the rectangular metallic back E, provided with the arms a 0, which are fiattened, and secured to the said longitudinal strips as shown, in combination with an inclined plane or frame having a winding-drum and pulley, substantially as specified.
