UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE,
EGBERT L. MARANYILLE, OF RUTLAND, VERMONT, ASSIGNOR OF ONEI-IALF' TOEDVVARD BOWMAN, OF SAME PLACE.
' TURN-TABLE F OR STOVE-"OVENS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 286,029, dated October 12, 1883.
Application filed July 7,1883, (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Ecnnnrr L. 1\[A n ANVILLE, a citizen of theUnited States ofAmerica, residing at Rutland, in the county of Butland and State of Vermont, have invented certain new and .useful Improvements in Attachments for Stove-Ovens; and I do herebydeclare the following to be. a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable oth- 1o ers skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters or figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
I 5 This invention relates to that class of devices which are used in baking-ovens, and are known as turn-tables, which will enable the user of the stove or range to turn the article placed upon the same within the oven,
and thereby insure an even baking of the artiele; and it is designed more especially as an improvement upon my patent dated March 13, 1883, and numbered 274,009, the special object in view in this iiwention being to pro- 2 5 vide a means whereby the turn-table upon which the cooking utensils rest will be kept comparatively level, which object is attained by means of springs or other self-adjusting devices, which are attached to the ends of the 0 arms or bed-plate, which rests upon the bot tom of the oven and supports the turn-table.
In the annexed drawings, Figure 1 is a vertical section, showing the same applied to the even of an ordinary cooking-stove. Fig. 2 is 3 5 a plan view of the spider which supports the turntable. Fig. 3 is a perspective sectional view. Figs. 4;. and 5 are detailed views of modifications of my invention, and Fig. 6 is a detail perspective view.
In the acconupanying drawings, A represents the base, which consists of radial arms, which base is provided at its center with a pivot, a, which forms a connecting means between said base and the turn-table. This spider A or base is provided at the ends of its radial arms with dowmvardly-proiecting lugs or nibs a, which rest upon the floor of the oven. By means of these downwardly-projecting lugs the base will rest solidly on the bottom plate of the oven, even if the same should be slightly warped. The upper part of this base, at the ends of the radial. arms, is provided with suitablemeans, as will be hereinafter described, for holding the springs in place, and it is also provided at the center 5 5 with a raised portion, a", which supports the center of the table.
At an intermediate point between the ends of the arm A and the raised center piece, (1 11 provide upwardly-projecting nibs (1., which are preferably pointed, as shown in Fig. 1. These nibs will prevent any undue tilting of the turntable, should the same be pressed down upon the springs to their full capacity.
The turn-table B-is provided at a suitable point.- above the ends of the radial arms A, to which the springs are attaehed, with asmooth bearing surface or way, and at its central porti on with a perforation, through which passes the central and uniting pivot, a, which perfo-. ration is recessed on its upper part, so as to allow the head of said pivot to lie within the same and not form an obstruction upon the upper surface of the turn-table. This turntable may also be provided with a similar way 7 5 at apoint intermediate between'the end bearing-point of the radial arms A and the central pivot, against which the raised projections a will. bear. should the turntable come in contact with the same. So
The turn-table B is circular in form, and is provided with numerous openings or perforations, which will allow the heat from the bot tom of the oven to pass through the same, and the edge or periphery is serrated or provided with notches, whereby the same may be readily turned.
As hereinbelore mentioned, the ends of the radial arms are provided with springs, which springs may be attached thereto, as shown in 0 Fig. 3, which is the preferable construction, though I do not wish to confine myself thereto.
In this case the ends of the arms A are cast with downwardly-projecting lugs a and upwardly-projecting nibs I), which are conical in shape, being preferably the flllSliJllll'l of the cone. Over these upwardly-projectingnibs b are secured spiral springs which are of sufficient strength and length to support the turn- 1 Having thus described my invention, what I table on a line horizontally with the central pivot, the upper ends of these springs being bent substantially horizontally.
In Fig. 4 I have shown a modification in which the spiral springs rest within a socket formed on the ends of the arms. Fig. 5 is also a modification of my invention, which operates in substantially the came manner as those hereinbefore set forth. In this case the walls of the sockets are provided with slots, in which rest the j ournals of an oval anti-friction roller, sai dj ournals being supported by spiral springs, as shown, whereby a vertical spring movement is given to said roller.
In Fig.6 of the accompanying drawings I have illustrated a means which may be provided for the purpose of securing the arms A of the base to the perforated plate B, in which case the upper sides of the arms are provided with upwardly-projecting nibs a and a perfodesirable in transporting the parts, as when the parts are thus secured to each other the springs cannot become displaced.
The operation of this invention is substantially the same as described in my previous patent, hereinbefore referred to.
claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In a platform or turn-table for stoveovens, the base A, provided at its periphery with springs, substantially as shown, and for the purpose set forth.
2. In combination with the turn-table B, the base A, provided at its periphery with upwardly-extending springs and downwardlyprojecting lugs a, the parts being united by a central pivot, substantially as shown.
3. The attachment for a stove-oven herein set forth, consisting of a perforated plate, B, provided with a circular way, in combination with the base A, adapted to rest upon the floor of the oven, and provided 011 its upper surface with raised central projections, a", and at a point between the ends thereof with raised projections a, and at the end with suitably-secured bearing-springs O, the parts being united by a central pivot, so that the upper plate may be rotated and will preserve its equilibrium, substantially as described, and
