"This invention relates to beach caba'fias, and "has particular reference to adevice of that'character, which may be collapsed'and folded into a compact=bundle,"which may readily be transported and stored in a minimum of space.

Another object of the inventionis to provide a beach cabafia, which is made up of a foldable'frame work, and

a simple covering, .whi ch covering;may quickly be attached to and detached from the framework, and which ;cover serves as means for wrapping up the frame work, when the latter 'is "in folded condition.

Another object of the'inventionis to provide a cabana of the-character indicated, which-is simple in construction, economical to manufacture and assemble, and efficient in operation.

Another object of the invention is to provide a beach cabafia, which comprises a foldable frame work and a covering for the frame work, a portion of which covering serves as a mat for lounging on the sand beneath the cabafia.

Another object of the invention is to provide a device of the character indicated, which consists of a foldable frame work and a cover for the frame work, a portion of which cover serves as hold down means for the cabafia.

Another object of the invention is to provide a device of the character indicated, which is constructed with frame work members which may be folded into relatively short lengths for carrying in a motor vehicle, and which may be unfolded and set up for ready use, without the necessity of employing special tools.

The foregoing and other objects and advantages of the invention will become more apparent as the description proceeds, reference being made from time to time to the accompanying drawings, in which drawings:

Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a device embodying my invention.

Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the cabafia frame with the covering removed.

Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the cabafia frame shown in Fig. 2 but showing the frame at the beginning of the collapsing operation.

Fig. 4 is a perspective view showing the frame after it has been completely collapsed.

Fig. 5 is a top plan view of the collapsed frame shown in Fig. 4 with parts shown in broken lines to indicate the manner of folding the collapsed frame into a comparatively compact bundle.

Fig. 6 is a side elevational view of the frame after it has been completely collapsed and folded into a compact bundle for carrying.

Referring now more particularly to the drawings, it will be understood that in the embodiment herein disclosed my improved cabana consists, in general, of a foldable frame, .and a cover, which are more particularly described hereinafter.

The foldable frame may be made of lengths of wood, aluminum, or other suitable material, and the cover may be made of canvas, a plastic, or other suitable material.

and the contact of the arms 32 and 33 with the upright members 19 and 20, prevent the lateral movement of the cross arms 32 and 33, and serve to stabilize the frame when it is extended, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2.

The foldable frame work just described is anchored to the ground by means of anchor stakes 41, which are slideably mounted in loops provided in the members 17A and 18A.

The cover of the device consists of a top panel 42, a back panel 43, a bottom or floor panel 44, and side panels 45 and 46. The top panel 42, the rear panel 43, and the bottom or floor panel 44 may be made of a single length of material. The floor panel 44 serves as a lounging mat, upon which the user may recline on the sand beneath the cabaiia. A portion 44A of the floor panel 44 may be extended rearwardly from the cabafia and may be folded as shown in Fig. 1, to provide an extension for supporting a heavy object, such as a stone 46, or the like, so that the folded portion 44A serves as a further means for holding down the cabafia when in use.

The overhanging portion 47 of the top panel 42 is secured to the front header 23 of the frame by means of snaps 48. The upper portion of the rear panel 43 is secured in like fashion to the rear face of the rear header 38 by similar fasteners (not shown).

The side panels 45 and 46 are secured to the upright The lower edges of the side panels 45 and 46 are secured to the base members 14 and 15 by means of snap fasteners 50. Thus it will be seen that I have provided means whereby the cover may quickly be removed from the frame when it is desired to wash or clean the cover.

The frame may be collapsed and folded as shown in Figures 3 to 6 inclusive. In Fig. 3 I show the first movement of the collapsing operation. After the Wire detents 40 are unsnapped from the upright members 19 and 20, the upright members 19 and 20 may be rocked rearwardly on the pivots 17B and 18B. This rearward motion of the upright members 19 and 20, breaks the cross arms 26 and 28, permitting their sections to pivot on the pivots 27 and 31. The pivots 24, 29, 25, 30, 27, 31, 34 and 35 also permit the cross arms 26, 28, 32 and 33 to follow the downward movement of the members 19 and 20 until the parts assume the position shown in Fig. 4.

The collapsed parts 14, 19, 26 and 32, shown at the left in Figs. 4 and 5, are then swung to the right on the hinges 21, as shown by the broken lines and arrow, at the left, in Fig. 5. The members 15, 20, 26 and 33, shown to the right in Fig. 4, are then swung upwardly and to the left on the hinges 22, as shown by the broken lines and arrow, at the right side of Fig. 5, after which the parts of the collapsed and folded frame will assume the position as shown in Fig. 6. The folded frame may then be wrapped in the cover, thereby making a compact bundle of the cabafia for transportation and storage.

Having described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

1. A frame for a beach cabaiia comprising in combination, three base members hinged to one another, a pair of uprights pivoted to the free ends of two of said base members, a front header hinged at either end to one of said uprights, a pair of cross arms each pivoted respectively to one of said uprights and to one of said base members, each of said cross arms consisting of two sections pivotably joined together, a second pair of cross arms, a rear header hinged at either end to one of said second cro-ss arms, said second pair of cross arms being pivoted to said first pair of cross arms intermediate the ends, the free ends of said second pair of cross arms having means for attachment to said uprights.

2. A frame for a beach cabafia comprising three base members hinged to one another a pair of uprights pivoted to the free ends of two of said base members, a front header hinged at either end to one of said uprights, a pair of cross arms each pivoted respectively to one of said uprights and to one of said base members, each of said cross arms consisting of two sections pivotably joined together, a second pair of cross arms, a rear header hinged at either end to one of said second cross arms, said second pair of cross arms being pivoted to said first pair of cross arms intermediate the ends, the free ends of said second pair of cross arms having means for attachment to said uprights, and means to secure a cover to said headers, said uprights and two of said base members only.

3. A beach cabafia frame consisting of three base members hinged to one another, a pair of uprights pivoted to the free ends of two of said base members, a front header hinged at either end to one of said uprights, a pair of cross arms each pivoted respectively to one of said uprights and to one of said base members, each of said cross arms consisting of two sections pivotably joined together, a second pair of cross arms, a rear header hinged at either end to one of said second cross arms, said second pair of cross arms being pivoted to said first pair of cross arms intermediate the ends, the free ends of said second pair of cross arms having means for attachment to said uprights, and snap means to secure thereto a cover.
