United States Patent Ofiice 2,736,06i Patented Feb. 28, 1956 This invention relates to dental flask retainers and more particularly to a device which permits a dental flask to be compressed in a conventional press and thereafter retains the flask and the material therein under pressure while the said material is processed through the required operations.
It is an object of my present invention to provide such a flask retainer which is easy to use, highly eflicient in its operation and superior to any like devices now known to me.
Further objects and advantages of this invention will be clearly understood from the following description and the accompanying drawings in which:
Fig. 1 is a plan view of my improved dental flask retainer.
Fig. 2 is a front view thereof.
Fig. 3 is a front view partly in central vertical section.
As shown in the drawings, my retainer includes a frame which has a base 6, parallel upright side posts 66 and a crossbar 7 having a central hole 8 therein.
A pressure plate '9 is vertically slidable in said frame and has notches 1010 in opposite sides thereof which receive the posts 6-6 to prevent rotation of the said pressure plate. A threaded shaft 11 extends vertically from the pressure plate and fits loosely through the hole 8. The said shaft is preferably integral with the pressure plate but may be otherwise connected therewith.
A nut 12 is threaded to the shaft 11 and a cap 13 is preferably provided at the end of the shaft 11 to keep the pressure plate assembled to the frame.
In the use of my improved retainer, the dental flask, indicated at 14, is first placed between the base 5 and the pressure plate 9. The retainer, with the flask therein, is then placed in a press of any conventional type used for such purposes and pressure is applied upon the top of the shaft 11 so as to force the pressure plate down upon the flask.
When the desired amount of pressure has been applied upon the flask to properly compress the material therein, the nut 12 is rotated upon the thread of the shaft 11 until it tightly engages the bottom of the crossbar 7 and it thereby retains upon the flask the pressure which was applied by the conventional press.
The retainer, with the flask held therein under pressure, may then be taken out of the press and carried through the several operations required for processing the material within the flask. When the said processing has been completed and it is desired to remove the flask from the retainer, the nut 12 is rotated to move it downwardly upon the threaded shaft and thus permit the said shaft and the pressure plate to move upwardly in the retainer and thereby release the flask so that it may be readily removed from the retainer.
It will be clearly understood from the above that the dental flask retainer provided by my invention will permit the pressure which is applied for compressing the material in the flask to be retained and the flask to be held securely together so that no separate operation will be required for again putting the flask under pressure after it has been taken out of the conventional press.
I claim:
1. A flask retainer including a frame having a base, a crossbar having a vertical hole therein, a pressure plate movable relatively to said base, a threaded shaft upon said pressure plate and slidable through said hole, and a nut threaded to said shaft and engageable with the bottom of said crossbar to retain the pressure plate in position relatively to the base.
2. A flask retainer including a frame having a base, a crossbar having a vertical hole therein, a pressure plate vertically movable relatively to the base, a threaded shaft extending from said pressure plate and slidable through said hole, and a nut between the crossbar and the pressure plate; the said nut being threaded to the shaft and engageable with the said crossbar for retaining the bottom of pressure plate in fixed position relatively to the base.
3. A flask retainer including a frame having a base portion, posts extending vertically from opposite sides of said base, a crossbar upon the tops of said posts, the said crossbar having a centrally located hole therethrough, a pressure plate vertically slidable between said posts and slidably connected thereto to prevent rotation of said pressure plate, a shaft extending vertically from the pressure plate and slidable through said hole, a nut threaded to said shaft and engageable with the bot-tom of said crossbar to retain the pressure plate in adjusted position relatively to the said base, and means on said shaft for preventing removal thereof from said hole.
