Another object of the present invention is the provision of a curl protecting cap which is especially adapted to be worn by women while sleeping to thereby afford protection to their curls which would ordinarily become completely disarranged while sleeping.

Yet another object of the present invention is the provision of a generally improved curl protecting cap of the above character which is of simple design and construction, economical to manufacture, and which is highly efiicient in the accomplishment of its intended purpose.

The above and other objects, features and advantages of the present invention will be more fully understood from the following description considered in connection with the accompanying illustrative drawing.

Referring to the drawing in detail, the curl protecting cap is of a size and shape generally corresponding to the contour of a persons head 12 with said cap being provided with a plurality of resilient curl receiving elements 14 disposed in the interior of said cap and secured thereto. The cap 10 may be formed of any suitable material, for example flexible and resilient sheet material which may be readily expanded for positioning on the wearers head.

Pusuant to the present invention, each of the curl receiving elements 14 is formed of a relatively soft flexible and resilient material such as foam or sponge rubber, and is provided with a central aperture or bore 16 adapted for the reception of the free end portion 17 of an associated curl 19 for maintaining the latter in a curled condition. Each of the apertures 16 is closed at the bottom thereof by portions of the cap whereby said apertures are open at their inner or receiving ends only. Each of the curl receiving elements 14 may be secured to the interior of cap 10 in any suitable manner as by means of a cementing operation. The elements 14 are spaced in the interior of the cap 10 at desired intervals and each of said elements is provided with a tapered free end portion 20 of arcuate configuration.

The cap 10 and the curl protecting elements 14 are preferably formed of flexible and resilient material in order to comfort the wearer while protecting her curls. It will be understood that curls positioned in the curl receiving members 14 will maintain their shape even though pressure is exerted. against the head 12 such as when the head is reposing on a pillow.

At the lower marginal edge of thehead covering 10 is an elastic band yieldably maintaining said covering on the wearers head with the coveringenclosing the wearers hair. In practice, the cap 10 is positioned on the wearers head and the free end portions 17 of ends 19 are manipulated into the apertures 16 of elements 14, it being understood that said cap may be expanded sufi'iciently to permit the wearers hand to be inserted between the cap and hair to effect such manipulation. Each curl'will be associated with an adjacent element 14and the particular wearer need not utilize all of the elements 14 provided in the cap.

With reference to Fig. 4, there is shown a slightly modified form of the present invention in which the elements 14 have a planar face part 20 at the inner free end with said elements being otherwise tionally similar to elements 14. A head covering for the protection of curls, comprising a flexible and resiliently expansible cap adapted to be positioned on the wearers head for enclosing the wearers hair, said cap having secured thereto on the inside thereof a plurality of spaced curl receiving elements formed of flexible material, each of said elements having a closed bottom aperture adapted for the reception of a free end portion of associated curl for maintaining the the wearershead, wardly of said cap and having a free end provided with a planar face adapted to abut the wearers hair.

A head covering for the protection of curls, cornprising a flexible and resiliently expansible cap formed of sheet material adapted to be worn on the wearers head for enclosing the wearers hair, said cap having secured thereto on the inside thereof a plurality of spaced curl receiving elements formed of foam or sponge rubher, each of said elements projecting inwardly of said cap into abutting relation with the wearers hair when the cap is worn, each of said elements having a pocket closed at its outer end and open at its inner end for the reception of a free end portion of an associated curl for maintaining the latter in a curled condition when the cap is worn on the wearers head.
