Description

`lune 14, 1955 l.. H. MORIN CABINET FRAMES Filed June 13, 1952 Wam V/ ...mmv/A2727 INVENTOR -Lows H. MORIN @v4 BY United States Patent O CABINET FRAMES Louis H. Morin, Bronx, N. Y., assigner to Doehler Metal Furniture Co., Inc., New York, N. Y., a corporation of New Yori:
Application .lune 13, 1952, Serial No. 293,269
1 Claim. (Cl. 312--256) This invention relates to leg constructions for use in support of knockdown metal frames used in the construction of cabinets, particularly in the radio or television type. More particularly, the invention deals in a cast leg unit which is shaped to provide a strong and durable mounting for horizontal and vertical frame members in connection therewith, so as to provide a rigid support of the frame members.
The novel features of the invention will be best understood from the following description, when taken together with the accompanying drawing, in which certain embodiments of the invention are disclosed and, in which, the separate parts are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views and, in which:
Fig. 1 is a side and sectional view of the lower portion of a frame showing one of my leg members mounted in connection therewith.
Fig. 2 is a plan view of part of the structure shown in Fig. 1, with part of the construction broken away and in section.
Fig. 3 is a section on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2; and
Fig. 4 is a perspective inside view of one of my leg members detached.
ln Figs. l and 2 of the drawing, I have indicated at 1t? part of the lower rails of a skeleton cabinet frame made in accordance with the teachings in a companion application tiled of equal date herewith later identied as bearing Serial Number 293,268, filed June 13, 1952. At 11 l have shown one of the corner posts. At 12 1 have shown one of my improved leg members. This leg member is shown in perspective detail in Fig. 4 of the drawing. The leg member comprises side angleiron and angularly disposed extensions 13 and 14, upper, inwardly extending anges 15 and 16 of which are apertured, as seen at 1'7, for reception of screws 18 in securing the frames 10 in position on the extensions 13 an-:l 14. The corner portion of the post has an upwardly and outwardly lextending rectangular abutment 19, against which the ends of the frame 10 abut, as clearly seen in Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawing.
The downwardly extending portions 20, 21 of the extensions 13 and 14 have extending and contracting wall portions 22, 23 which form the lower portion of the leg and, at the inner surface of the extensions 22, 23
2,710,785 Patented June 14, 1955 at the corner portion thereof, is a rib or web 24 having an angular inner surface 25 extending the full height thereof and in alinement with the inner surface 26 of the abutment 19. It will also be noted that the abutment 19 extends below the walls 15, 16 as seen at 19' and the abutment, including the web, has three vertically spaced apertures 27 for reception of screws 28 employed to secure the vertical post 11 in position. The lower surface of the web 24 is apertured, as seen at 29, to receive a caster 30, as clearly noted in Fig. 1 of the drawing.
1t will also be noted, in Fig. 2 of the drawing, that an elongated washer strip 31 is employed and apertured to register with the apertures 27 and for reception of the screws 23. With my improved leg construction, it will be understoodthat a strong and durable leg is provided and one with which the frame members 10 and the vertical post 11 can be securely coupled.
It will be apparent from a consideration of Figs. 2 and 4 that the surface 25 is ush with the inner edges of the top flanges 15 and 16 and it will also appear from Fig. 4 that the flanges 13 and 14, while being coextensive with the extensions 22 and 23, extend beyond these extensions, thus minimizing the overall Width of the leg member proper and at the same time providing long bearing portions for the rails 10.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
A leg construction for knockdown frames of the character described, said leg construction comprising a cast body substantially L-shaped in form and having angleiron extensions at sides thereof disposed at to each other, said extensions having upper and outer walls, the upper corner portion of the leg having an upwardly and outwardly extending abutment projecting beyond outer References Cited in the file of this patent UNITED STATES PATENTS 696,041 Heiman Mar. 25, 1902 790,132 Jaeger May 16, 1905 1,379,554 Ziefel May 24, 1921 1,691,692 Wilkinson Nov. 13, 1928 2,030,540 Rogers Feb. 11, 1936 FOREIGN PATENTS 159,342 Austria Mar. l5, 1940 334,259 Germany Mar. 11, 1921
