UNITED STATES PA'ren T Genoa HARRY R. GRACE, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR TO THOMAS B. HAGSTOZ AND CHARLES N. THORPE, OF SAMllPLAC E.
. ,ADVERTISING-CARD.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 279,866, dated June 19, 188
Applinat ion filed December 27, 12%?2. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HARRY R. GRACE, of the city of Philadelphia, county of Philadelphia, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented an Improvement in Advertising-Cards, of which the following is a specification.
My invention has reference to advertising cards or circulars and it consists of a paper or card shaped like a watclrcase, and formed of two or more disks or leaves connected together or stamped from one sheet of paper or card-board; further in printing on or otherwise forming the two outer faces of said leaves or disks, so that when the same are folded in they represent the lids of a watch-case, and providing any one of said leaves with the representation of a pendant and ring made in tegral therewith or secured thereto, all of which is more fully set forth in the following specification, and shown in the accompanying drawings, which form part thereof.
It is common to stamp paper or card-board, so that the leaves shall be hinged together and bent back and forth upon themselves, with views of cities or scenery printed thereon, the device as a whole being known as panoramic views. I am also aware that it is not new to. place such panoramic views in covers or cases, or various shapes designed to protect them, as that is substantially shown in English Patent No. 2,563 of 1869; therefore it is not designed that this invention shall cover such devices.
The object of my invention is to form an attractive advertising card or circular for the watch or watch-case trade. The outside of the circular represents a watch, while the inside leaves or faces may be used to contain the advertisement, and, if desired, one or more of the faces may be made for memorandum purposes, either with plain paper or with a surface capable of allowing the pencil-marks being erased.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation of the card open. Fig. 2 is a similar view from the other side. Figs. 3 and 4 show modified forms of my invention.
A is the disk, which corresponds to the centerpiece of the watclrcase, and is provided at the top with the pendant and ring E.
B and 0 represent the lids, and are printed or stamped upon one side to correspond to the engraving on the case, and may be printed in gold, silver, or colors. Both of said disks B and O are secured to the part A by hingepieces D, which, when the disks or lids B and C are bent up against part A, (one being 011 each side,) correspond to the usual hinges on watch-cases. Both faces of part A and one face of parts B and C are left plain, or maybe printed upon as an advertisement.
If desired, one of the 'cases may be repre. sented on one side of the piece A, and one of the parts B or C may be plain on both sides; but I prefer the construction above described.
If desired, four or more disks may be used and arranged about the part A as shown in Fig. 3; and, in lieu of hinging them all to one piece, they may be hinged together alternately at top (I and bottom 1), as shown in Fig. 4, in which one of the watch-case faces is 011 A and the other on B, the plain parts or disks being shown at C.
In place of the lid being represented 011 the outside of the disks, an open-faced watch may be shown, and, if desired, the works maybe shown on the other outerface or on the part A.
I do not limit myself to any particular manner of printing or forming the cards to represent a watch, as it may be varied in numerous ways without departing from my invention.
The design broadly for an advertising-card formed of a single piece of card-board or pa per, and shaped to represent a watch, will form subjectanatter of another application.
Having now described-my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. An advertisingcard or circular formed of two or more disks stamped from suitable material and integral with each other, and which when folded represent a watch case, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
2. All advertising card or circular formed of two or more disks made integral with each other, and which when folded represent a watch-case, the two outer faces of said disks being printed to represent the lids of a watclr. case, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
An advertising card or circular which consists of three or more disks stamped out of paper or card-board and hinged-together, one of saiddisks being blank and provided with the representation of apendant and ring, and
the others of said disks being arranged at angles to each other, having their opposite sides printed to represent the lids of a watch, and so arranged that when bent down upon the first-named disk they completely inelose it, to substantially as set forth. I I
In testimony of which invention I hereunto set my hand.
HARRY R. GRACE.
