3 Claims. (Cl. 273-123) This invention relates to a game, and more particularly to a table for use in playing marbles.
The object of the invention is to provide a table which is constructed so that Various games of marbles can be played thereon, either indoors or outdoors.
Another object of the invention is to provide a game table which includes a number of parts that ca'n be detachably connected together whereby diterent games can be played thereon, and whereby the table includes a yieldable pad which is provided with markings or recesses whereby the skill of the player shooting the marbles can be measured or determined.
A further object of the invention is to provide a game table for use. in playing varioustypes of marble games which is extremely. simple and inexpensive to manufacture..`
Other objects and advantages will beapparent during the course of the followingdescription.`
In the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this application, and in which like numerals are used to designate like parts throughout the same:
Figure 1 is a plan view of the marble table, constructed according to the present invention.
Figure 2 is a side elevational view of the assembly of Figure l, with parts broken away and in section.
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken on the line 3-3 of Figure 2.
Figure 4 is a modied arrangement showing two extensions connected together and with the pad removed, and with parts broken away and in section.
Figure 5 is a sectional view taken on the line 5-5 of Figure l.
Figure 6 is a plan view showing the parts detached or disassembled.
4Figure 7 is a plan view of the body member of circular shape.
Figure 8 is a plan view of the side member for use with the body member of Figure 7.
Figure 9 is a perspective view of the side member shown in Figure 8.
Figure l0 is a plan view of a detachable section.
Figure ll is a perspective view of the member shown in Figure lO.
Figure l2 is a perspective view of a portion of the pad.
Referring in detail to the drawings, the numeral 10 designates a circular body member which can be made of any suitable material, and the body member 10 includes a horizontally disposed bottom wall 11. Extending upwardly from the outer peripheral edge of the bottoni wall 11 and secured thereto or formed integral therewith are curved flanges 12 which may be separated by a cutout or space 14, Figure 6. There is also provided in the body member 10, a cutout 15 for a purpose to be later described.
Depending from the body member 10 is a plurality of L-shaped legs 16 which are provided with openings 17, Logs 18 are secured to the legs 16, and the lugs 18 are ,Y 2,792,226 Patented May 14 1957 "icc adapted to be secured to the bottom wall 11 of the body member 10 by suitable securing elements such as bolts or screws 19.
There is further provided a first extension table which is indicated generally by the numeral 20, and the exten sion table 20 includes a horizontally disposed bottom wall 21 which has a plurality of vertically disposed legs 23 depending therefrom. Vertically disposed anges 22 extend upwardly from the extension table 20. The legsY 23 may be secured to the bottom wall 21 by means of securing elements 25 which extend through lugs 24. Also depending from the extension table 20 are a pair of angularly arranged legs 26 which are provided with openings 27 that are adapted to register with the openings 17 in the legs 16. Suitable securing elements such as bolt and nut assemblies 28 extend through the registering apertures 27 and 17 for detachably connecting the legs 26 and 16 together. An end of the extension table 20 is Vshaped arcuately as at 29 so that it fits smoothly into the space 14 of the body member 10.
There is further provided a second extension table 30 which includes a bottom Wall 31 and upstanding anges 32, there being legs 33 at one end of the table 30. The table 30 is further provided with a pair of angularly arranged legs 34 which are provided with openings 35, and the bolt and nut assemblies 28 may be extended through the openings 35 and through openings 17 in certain of the legs 16 so that the extension table 30 can also be connected to the body member 10. The extension table 30 is provided with a curved end portion 36 which is adapted to tit snugly in the cutout 15 of the body member l0.
A pad 37 of yieldable material is adapted to be mounted on the upper surface of the table extensions 20 and 30. Each of the pads 37 may be provided with suitable indentations 38 and openings 39 whereby the skill of the players in shooting the marbles into these openings can be accurately gauged. The pad 37 may further be provided with an insert 40 which can be used as a starting line when playing the game of marbles. The various pads may be secured to the upper surface of the body member and extension tables in any suitable manner, as for example by means of an adhesive or glue.
There is further provided a curved wall member 41, Figure 8, and the wall member 41 is adapted to be positioned in the space 14 when desired. Suitable securing elements 42 extend from the curved wall member 41 for engagement with pockets 43 in the body member 10. There is further provided a plug or section 44, Figures l0 and l1, and the plug 44 includes a bottom piece 45 and a curved flange 46. The plug 44 is adapted to be positioned in the cutout 15 in the body member 10, and for retaining the plug 44 in place, securing elements 47 extend therefrom for engagement with sockets 4S, and the sockets 48 may be arranged in the body member 10.
A yieldable pad 51 is adapted to be secured to the up-` per surface of the body member 16, and the pad 51 is of circular shape and may be provided with concentrically arranged circles 49 and 50 which can be used as targets towards which the marbles may be shot.
From the foregoing it is apparent that there has been provided a marble game which includes a table that can be used indoors or outdoors. The table may be arranged as shown in Figures l, 2, 3 and 5. Thus, the players may shoot vmarbles from a position contiguous to the starting lines 40. Then, the players can make up their own rules. For example, with the players shooting the marbles from a position contiguous to the starting lines 40, an attempt can be made to cause the marbles to land in the recesses 38 or opening 39. Or, an attempt can be made to cause the marbles to stop in the circles 49 or 50 on the body member 1t). The upstand- 3 ing anges 22 and 32 and 12 maintain the marbles on the table, and the pads' 37 and 51 provide a smooth and yieldable playing surfacefor the marbles. The extensions 20 and 3.0 have thei1 ends shaped arcuately so body member' 10, and ther legs ofr these extensions arev detachably connected to the legs. of the body member by means of the bolt and nut assemblies 28. The parts' can` be arranged' in other manners if desired'. For: example the body member 1'0 can be removed and the two sections 20' and 30 can be connected together as shown in Figure 4' so` that a'n elongated playing surface is provided. Or, one of the sections 20` or 30 can be connected to the body member 10 andthe wall member 41 or plug 44' can then be connected' to the opposite portion ofthe body member 10 so that other target areas are provided' for the marbles being shot;
With the present invention, various types of marble games can' be played andthe rules may be changed as desired. The table can be disassembled so that it occupies a minimum amount ofr space for storage or shipment. Also since the children can shoot marbles without being on the ground, the childrens clothes will not be soiled or damaged'. By rearranging the parts of the game, various types of games can be played. If desired the upper surface of the table can be provided with indicia or representations of figures sov as to permit variations in the games being played.
I' claim:
