SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 279,070, dated June 5, 1883. Application filed January 15, 1883. (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern: I
Be it known that we, CHARLES A. ZEISING, a citizen of the United States, residing in Atlantic City, New Jersey, and HENRY A. XVEIH- MANN, Jr, a citizen of the United States, residing in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, have invented an Improved Device for Affixing Postage-Stamps, &c., of which the following is a specification.
The object of our invention is to construct a cheap, compact, and convenient implement whereby gummed postage-stamps, labels, Ste, may be properly moistened and readily applied to letters or other objects.
.In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the implement; Fig. 2, a longitudinal section of the same, and Fig. 3, a transverse section on the line 1 2.
A is a strip of thirrsheet metal, wood, hard rubber, or other suitable material, having each edge bent so as to form opposite guides, a a, for the edges ofa sheet of postage-stamps,labels,
or -other pieces of gummed paper which it is is removable in order to permit access to the interior of said cylinder, the bearings h being slotted, so that the drum can be readily re moved therefrom.
The sheet of stamps being introduced into the guides a of the strip A, the latter is held in the hand and the sheet of stamps is pushed along by the thumb or finger so as to pass over the drum B, by which the gummed imder surface of each stamp is moistened, so that when the stamp passes beyond the strip A and onto the letter or other object it will readily adhere thereto, and can be easily separated from the remainder of the sheet.
The device is of a simple character, and can therefore be constructed cheaply; and it is compact in form and of a shape to be conveniently held in one hand.
\Ve claim as our invention- A stamp-sticker in which a drum, B, is combined with a plate, A, having an opening, I), opposite bent edges forming guides a, and opposite depending lugs 71, forming bearings for the spindle of the drum B, as set forth.
