Description

April 9, 1957 H. F. GROYA DISPLAY STRUCTURE Filed Dec. 27, 1954 a M j 9/ ya a d 6% M a M m f F j E Z H HWf a W DISPLAY STRUCTURE Herman F. Groya, Morton Grove, Ill. Application December 27, 1954, Serial No. 477,679 Claims. (Cl. 248-152) This invention relates to display structures, and more particularly to a structure adapted to be formed from flexible sheet material, such as cardboard, to support and display articles of merchandise upon a store counter or the like.
An object of the invention resides in the provision of a display structure embodying a plurality of hingedly connected sections formed and arranged to detachably engage the flanged base of a bottle and to support the latter in upright position in front of a display panel section.
A further object of the invention resides in the provision of a display structure comprising front and back portions secured together, the back portion having wing sections secured in the set-up positions by a bottle mounted in an aperture in the front portion.
Another object of the invention resides in the provision of an inexpensive display structure adapted to be shipped and stored in a flat, knockdown condition for ready assembly at the point of use.
The invention embodies other novel features, details of construction and arrangement of parts which are hereinafter set forth in the specification and claims and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein:
Fig. l is a front elevational view illustrating a display structure embodying features of the invention.
Fig. 2 is a side elevational view of same.
Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view taken along the line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 4 is a fragmentary plan view illustrating the front portion blank of the display structure.
Fig. 5 is a fragmentary plan view illustrating the back portion blank of the structure.
Referring now to the drawing for a better understanding of the invention, the display structure is shown as comprising a front portion 6 and a back portion 7 formed of flexible sheet material, such as cardboard, and adhesively united to each other at 8 to form a two-ply unit. If desired, the front and back portions may be formed from a single blank of sheet material folded upon itself at 9.
The front portion 6 is shown as comprising a front panel 11 hingedly connected along score lines 12-12 to an upper wall 13 which, in turn, is hingedly connected along a score line 14 to a base 16. The front portion 6 is cut transversely at 17-17 and scored at 18 to provide a locking flap 19 hingedly connected to the base 16.
An article receiving aperture 21 of greater length than width is formed in the front panel 11 and upper wall 13 of the front portion 6, the aperture being defined by a front edge 22, upwardly converging side edges 23-23, and a top edge 24.
The back portion 7 is shown as comprising a back panel 26 hingedly connected along parallel score lines 27-27 to generally triangular-shape side walls 28-28 which, in turn, are hingedly connected along upwardly converging score lines 29-29 to generally triangularshape wings 31-31. Side flaps 32-32 are hingedly connected along coplanar score lines 33-33 to the lower ends of their respective side walls 28-28. A clearance recess 34 is formed in the lower end of the back panel 26.
As illustrated in Figs. 1, 2 and 3 in the drawing, the display structure is adapted to receive, support and display a bottle 36 having a generally oval-shape base 37 formed with a marginal flange 38. In assembling the bottle on the display structure, the base 37 of the bottle is first inserted into the aperture 21 and then rotated about its longitudinal axis approximately to cause the front edge 22 and side edges 23-23 to snugly engage the base with the flange 38 disposed under the upper wall 13.
The side walls 28-28 are next moved forwardly to planes normal to the back panel 26. The wings 31-31' are then pivoted inwardly toward each other and thence rearwardly into abutting engagement against the front panel 11. The upper wall 13 is then pivoted forwardly and upwardly to dispose the bottle 36 against the wings 31-31 and front panel 11.
The side flaps 32-32 are then folded toward each other for engagement against the base 37 of the bottle, and the base 16 is folded rearwardly against the side flaps. During folding of the base 16, the locking flap 19 is inserted upwardly between the front panel 11 and back panel 26 to secure the display structure and bottle in set-up assembled condition.
While the invention has been shown in but one form, it is obvious to those skilled in the art that it is not so limited but is susceptible of various changes and modifications without departing from the spirit and scope of the claimed invention.
I claim:
1. In an article display formed of flexible sheet material, a front panel, a back panel secured to the front panel, an upper Wall hinged to the lower edge of the front panel and having an aperture to receive an article,
side walls hinged to and projecting forwardly from the back panel, wings hinged to the forward ends of said side walls and converging rearwardly toward and engaging said front panel, side flaps hinged to the lower ends of said side walls and projecting toward each other, a base hinged to said upper wall and projecting rearwardly under the upper wall and said side flaps to support an article disposed within said aperture, and an attachment flap hinged to said base and projecting upwardly between said front and back panels.
2. In an article display formed of flexible sheet mate rial, a front panel, a back panel secured to the front panel, an upper wall hinged to the lower edge of the front panel and having an aperture to receive an article, side walls hinged to and projecting forwardly from the back panel, wings hinged to the forward ends of said side walls and converging rearwardly toward and engaging said front panel, side flaps hinged to the lower ends of said side walls and projecting toward each other, a base hinged to said upper wall and projecting rearwardly under the upper wall and said side flaps to support an article disposed within said aperture, and an attachment flap hinged to said base and projecting upwardly between said front and back panels, said side walls and wings each being generally triangular-shape.
3. In an article display formed of flexible sheet material, a front panel, a back panel hinged and secured to the front panel, an upper wall hinged to the lower edge of the front panel and having a pear-shaped aperture to receive an article, side walls hinged to and projecting forwardly from the back panel, wings hinged to the forward ends of said side walls and converging rearwardly toward and engaging said front panel, side flaps Patented Apr. 9,1957
hinged to the lower ends of said side walls and projecting toward each other, a base hinged to said upper wall and projecting rearwardly under the upper wall and said side flaps to support an article disposed within said aperture, and an attachment flap hinged to said base and projecting upwardly between said front and back panels.
4. In an article display formed of flexible sheet material, a front panel, a back panel secured to the front panel, an upper wall hinged to the lower edge of the front panel and having an aperture to receive an article, side walls hinged to and projecting forwardly from the back panel, wings hinged to the forward ends of said side walls and converging rearwardly toward and engaging said front panel, side flaps hinged to the lower ends of said side walls and projecting toward each other, a base hinged to said upper wall and projecting rearwardly under the upper Wall and said side flaps to support an article disposed within said aperture, and an attachment flap hinged to said base and projecting upwardly between said front and back panels, said front panel and upper wall including edges defining an aperture, said aperture being of greater length than width whereby an article of generally oval section is snugly engaged therein when rotated to display position about an axis perpendicular to said base.
