BIDET SEAT Filed Dec. 13,1954 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 United States Patent BIDET SEAT Nicolas Pazos, Havana, Cuba Application December 13, 1954, Serial No. 474,768
3 Claims. (Cl. 4-7) This invention relates to bidet seat for water-closet bowls and its main object is to provide the seat of the bowl with a complete bidet service comprising cold and hot water supply to a douche member which in its inoperative position is arranged nnder the lower face of the seat, and once the person seated thereon has used the water closet service and wishes to use the douche, same is moved into operative position towards the center of the bowl, and cold and/ or hot water combined flushes through the nozzle of the douche at will of the user, the douche being maintained in that operative position while the user is seated by virtue of a spring device in contact between the seat and the bowl, but which on being released when the person leaves the seat, automatically returns the douche to its inoperative position under the seat and the water flow is stopped.
With this object in view the invention consists of the novel features of construction and arrangement of parts which will appear in the following specification and recited in the appended claims, reference being had to the accompanying drawing in which the same reference numerals indicate the same parts throughout the various figures, and in which:
Fig. 1 is an upper plan view of the bidet seat arranged on the water closet bowl, showing in dotted lines the douche member in its operative and inoperative positions.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged partial cross vertical section on line 2-2, of Fig. 1 in the operative position of the douche member, that is, when the user is seated and the inlet of water is opened.
Fig. 3 is a detail view of the douche tube in its inoperative position, and in dotted line when swung to its operative position.
Fig. 4 is a view similar to that of Fig. 2 in the inoperative position of the douche, that is, when the user has left the seat and the inlet of water is closed.
Fig. 5 is a side elevation of the upper portion of the bowl with the bidet seat in its inoperative position, showing in dotted lines the seat resting on the bowl and the position assumed by the douche member when same is to be used.
Fig. 6 is a vertical section across the hinged leaf of the block to which the rear portion of the seat is secured, showing the toothed bar for manually operating the douche member to its operative position.
Fig. 7 is a partial plan view of the block to which the seat is hinged and of the spring actuated douche member 7 2,774,078 Patented Dec. 18, 1956 dotted lines the position of the rod when the end of the latch is inserted on the groove; and
Fig. 10 is a cross section view of the rod mounted on its sliding guide and the retaining latch in its position inserted in the groove of the rod.
Referring to the drawings, 1 the upper edge of the water closet bowl on whose plane rear base 2 is mounted the metal block 3 having an upper horizontal forwardly projecting leaf 4 and two lower forwardly projecting shoulders 4 which are secured by means of screws 5 to the rear upper and lower faces respectively of the seat 6, the block being hinged to the pipe for cold and hot water 7 and 8, provided with hole 3' for the inlet of water to the block, and having cut-off valves not shown, which pipe is fixed by the collars 9 and 10, the whole being secured to the base 2 of the rear part of bowl 1 by the supports 11 and 12. I
Around the douche pipe is coiled a spring 20 having a bent end secured to the lower face of the seat and its other end is inserted in a hole 21 of a bracket hoop 22 tightly mounted on the douche pipe 16 and being provided at its periphery with a cam stop of inclined plane 23 facing a similar cam stop 24 integrally connected to a shoulder 25 formed on the outer face of block 3, the bracket hoop being formed by the annular base of 'arm 26 of the geared sector 27 adapted to mesh with a toothed portion 28 of the hand rod 29 which is slidable mounted on a forked support 30, the opposite end of the hand rod being provided with a spherical handle 31. 7
The douche pipe 16 is straight at its end portion adjacent the block 3 and curved at its opposite end, as shown in Fig. 3, so as to be accommodated under the lower face of the seat, but on pulling outwardly the rod 29 by means of the handle 31, causing the geared sector 27 to rotate to the dotted line position shown in Fig. 6, the curved portion of tube 16 carrying at its end the spray ing nozzle 32 is moved to its operative position shown in dotted lines in Figs. 1 and 3.
35.4-1', and the, U; member 44 pushes outwardly the spring. 47} thus, causing latch 4-2 to slide out somewhat thereby preparing the angular branch of the latch 42 for being lodgedin groove 49 of rod 29 as. soon, as said groove facesv the angular; branch of the latch 42, when the person seated on the seat 6 pulls out rod 29. by grasping with his hand the spherical handle. 31, which will cause the simultaneous rotation of the geared sector 27, and owing to the action of the cam stop 23 rotating in contact with the stationary cam stop 24, the bracket hoop 2 2 is caused to draw back together with the geared sector 27 against the elastic tension of spring 29, which causes the drawback of the open end of the douche pipe 16 separating same from packing connected to plug 14, whereby the water entering into block 3 throughthe pipe 7-8 which constitutes the shaft on which. hinges the block 3, flows through hole 3 and vertical conduit 13 into the douche pipe 16 simultaneously with the rotation of same in an angle of 90 by virtue of similar rotation of the geared sector 27 to which it is connected and the water flushes up throughthe spraying nozzle 32; but when the person leaves the seat and the pressure on spring 34 ceases, the seat will reassume the inoperative position indicated in Fig. 5, the lever 3541 and the angular latch 42 going back to the position shown in Fig. 8, the. geared sector 27 will be rotated back-by the spring, 2.9, the cam stop 23 returning to its normal position sliding on the stationary cam stop 24', whereby the. douche tube 16 advances again until its end butts against the packing is connected to plug 14 thus closing the water supply to the douche tube, which turns back to its inoperative position under seat 6 as indicated in-Figs. 2 and 4, thus automatically closing the flow of water to the douche even if the user forgets to cutoil the supply of water to pipe 73 by closing the valves not shown.
The cold water supply may be taken from that of the water closet and the hot water from the nearest pipe, so that it may not be necessary to break the floor for underground connections.
While the invention is shown as applied to a bowl of the type provided with a rear portion having holes for inserting thereto the bolts for securing the seat, it is obvious that the invention can also be applied to such other types of bowls having an integral seat by securing the block and other parts thereof in any conventional manner to the back portion or" such other types of bowls.
It is likewise obvious that the form, proportion, and details of construction may be varied without departing from the spirit of the invention, as defined in the following claims.
What I claim is:
1. In a bidet seat connected to a block hinged to a shaft secured to the rear portion of a water closet bowl, said shaft being a pipe and serving as a water inlet, a douche pipe having an open end slidably mounted through an opening in the block, said douche pipe having its open end adapted for fitting against packing fixedlylocated within the block, the said open end of the douche pipe being straight and rotatably mounted in the block and the opposite end terminating in a spray nozzle and being curved. to follow the contour of the seat, a spring 4 coiled around the douchepipe, a geared sector secured to the straight portion of said douche pipe, said spring having one end secured under the seat and the other end secured to the geared sector and being under tension to normally rotate the curved portion of said douche pipe beneath the seat and urge the open end of the douche pipe into sealed engagement with said packing, a hand actuated rod slidably mounted on the block and provided with teeth at a portion thereof meshing with said sector, the block and a portion of the geared sector having cam surfaces thereon, which, when the geared sect-or is rotated cause the same to raw back with the douche pipe pressing the said spring and unseating the open end of the douche pipe from the packing while the curved end of the douche pipe is swung from beneath the seat so that the spray nozzle is in operative position.
2. In a bidet seat as defined in claim 1, wherein latch means is provided for holding said rod in the operative position and for releasing the same when aperson leaves the seat, said means comprising an angular lever of unequal arms pivotally mounted under the seat, and whose longer arm is connected to the end of a coiled spring inserted at one end in a recess in the lower face of theseat and terminated at its other end in a spherical rubber butt resting on the upper edge of the bowl, the shorter arm of the lever forming a fork which embraces an angular rodlike latch slidably supported on lugs pending from a supporting plate fixed beneath one side of the seat and from which projects a horizontal fork which slidably supports the toothed rod, a coil spring surrounding said latch and tensioned between an inverted U-shaped member connected to the short arm of the lever and a stop on saidlatch to bias said latch against the rod when a person is on the seat, said rod having a groove adapted to receive the latch and to thereby retain the rodv in itsoutwardly extended position while the person is seated and has pulled out the. rod, thus, maintaining the water supply to the douche while same is in its operative position, said lever being actuated by the spring disposed between such lever and the seat, when the person leaves the seat, to swing the shorter arm of the lever and its associated U- shaped member away from the latch to relieve the tension on the spring coiled about said latch and disengage said latch from said rod.
