PA'PER GARD CASE.
N 276,962. Patented May 1,1883.-
T WITNESSES: e
INVENTOR 5 f Y Y I e ATTORNEY UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES DE QUILLFELDT, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., ASSIGNOR TO DONALDSON BROTHERS, OF SAME PLACE.
PAPER CARD-CASE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 276,962, dated May 1 1883.
ApplieationfilerlMarch 3,1883. (ModeL) V To all whom it mag concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES DE QUILL.
FELDT, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Paper Gard-Gases, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has reference to an improved paper card-case, which is made of one continnous piece of paper without any pasting or stitching; and it consists of a card-case made of a continuous blank composed of a rear part havingside gussets with extension-flaps, afront part connected to the lower edge of the rear v part, and having a binding-flap and a closing 15 top flap that is applied by a paper lock to the front part of the case, so as to close the case.
In the accompanying drawings, Figures 1, L and 3 represent respectively a front view, a
i i side view, and a vertical transverse section, of
my improved paper card-case. Fig. 4 is a horizontal section of the same on line y 3 Fig. 1; and Fig. 5 represents the blank n-om which the card-case is made.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A in the drawings represents a paper blank that is made of one continuous piece of stiff cardpaper, and composed. of a rear part, a,
. side gussets, b I), having extension-flaps d d, a
front part, c, at the lower ed ge of the rear part, a, said front part having a. binding-flap, e, and a top flap, f, at the upper'edge ot'-the back part a. The top flap is provided with tongues f, which interlock with ,slotsf of the front part, c, and form a so-called paper lock for the card-case when the same has been folded in proper shape. This is accomplished by first folding the side gussets, b b, and their extension-flaps d d in front of the rear part, a, then bending. up the front part, 0, and folding the 0 binding-flap e inwardly over the extensionflaps d d, as shown in the drawings in Fig. 3,
and finally binding the top flap, fiover the front part, c, and looking it thereto by the locking device, which is made integral with 5 the top and front parts. In place of the looking deviceff any other suitable paper lock may be used.- 7
A card-case is formed in this manner in which visiting-cards, postage-stamps, and oth- 5o er articles may be stored with great convenience, which is made up without requiring any pasting or stitching of the parts, and which, when properly ornamented and embellished, forms a neat device for samples and advertising purposes generally.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. A paper card-case made of a rear part, a,
side gussets, b b, having extension-flaps d d, 60
a front wall, 6, having a binding-flap, e, a top flap,f, and a locking device,f'j made integral with the front part and top flap, respectively, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. A blank for a card-case composed of a rear part, a, side gussets, b b, having extension-flaps cl d, a front part, c, having bindingflap e and slots f and a closing top flap,f,
having tongues f f, substantially as speci- 7o In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
