GARY B. SMITH, OF'DENVEB, COLORADO.
sAsH-WEIGHT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 276,913, dated May 1, 1883.
Application filed July 29, 1882. (Model.)
as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to sash-weights for windows; and the novelty consists in a sashweght provided at its upper end with a pulley, and having its face formed or provided with a series ot' recesses or depressions adapted to receive a set-screw, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth. t
Figure l is a front view of' a window-frame with one of the side rails removed, showing a front view ot' my 4improved sash-weight; and
Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view ot' the side frame ot' the windo\v-frame, showing a side sectional view of the sash-weight. Y
The letter A represents a window-frame with the usual sashes.
The letter B represents a single sash-cord passing over the independent pulleys a a', with the ends secured by any suitable fastening means to thelower and upper sashes, and leaving the loop part in the chamber ot' the frame at the side.
Within the side chamber of the windowframe is arranged the sash-weight G, and having preferably fixed thereto the plate b, provided with a series of recesses or depressions, for the purpose of receiving the end ot a setscrew, as seen in Fi g. 2 of the drawings. This sash -weight, at its upper end, is provided with a pulley, c', and is adjusted and arranged in the loop of' the sash-cord, as seen in Fig. 2 of the drawings.
The letter D is a set-screw secured to and let through the plate of the side frameof the window, and arranged so as to screw against the weight and into the recessed plate, whereby the weight may be stopped and set at any de- -sired position.
ventilation is accomplished by securing the lower sash by means of the latch on the lower rail, and then pulling the upper sash down as may be needed, and, when the desired point is reached, screwing the set-screw against the sash-weight. When the upper sash is secured against further downward progress, and the lower sash being secured by the catch below, the window is comparatively safe against intruders. It' it be desired to adjust both sashes, the catch at the bottom can be loosened, and both sashes are free to be moved up or down. What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is t As an improved article of manufacture, the sash-weight provided at its upper' end with a pulley, and having its face formed with a series of recesses or depressions adapted to cooperate with a set-screw, as described,
In testimony whereof Iaftix my signature in presence ot two witnesses.
