' BARNET, VERMONT.
FLOWER-STAN D.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 276,663, dated May 1, 1883. Application filed September 5, 1882. (No model.)
.To all whom it may concern Be it known that we, EDWIN J. BONETT, THOMAS GILFILLAN, and ALBERT W. FLAN- DERS, of Barnet, in the county of Caledonia and State of Vermont, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Flower- Stands; and We do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, and in which- Figure 1 is a sectional elevation of. our improved flower-stand. Fig. 2 is a plan View; and Fig. 3 is a horizontal section of the hub G.
This invention has'relation to improvements in flower-stands equally capable of serving as atoilet-stand, book-case, oranalogous purpose; and it consists in the combination and constrnction of parts substantially as hereinafter more fully set forth and claimed.
To carry out our invention we employ a stand having a central socketed piece, a, to which are affixed three or more legs, A A, which may be provided with casters.
B is a standard or upright glued or otherwise secured in the socket of the piece a. Upon the upper end of this standard is a circular shelf, b.
O G are two hubs,;arranged a suitable distance apart upon and so as to revolve on the standard B, the lower one being supported, it maybe, upon the upper edge of the piece a around the standard, while the upper one is supported by the fraiiie-work supported by the lower hub and by the disk F, fastened to standard B, immediately below it.
D is the lower circular shelf, composed of a number of pieces, each the segment ofa circle, suitably-connected together and notched or adapted to fit or receive the back and front pieces or bars.
D is an upper similar shelf.
E E are rods fitted into the lower hub, G, and supporting the lower shelf-frames. The lower shelf-frames consist each of a short front upright or bar, 0, and a longer rear uprightor standard, 01, secured together by a brace, e, at their lower ends. The longer uprights or standards are connected to and with horizontal rods f (shorter than the rods E) fitted and pinned into sockets in the upper hub, G, and which form the upper shelf-frames. The hub G has additional apertures or sockets to receive additional rods E, which extend under and support the lower shelfisections about midway between their ends. Upon these rods may bearranged sliding blocks having mortises adapted to overlap the back edges of the shelf-sections, so as to cause them to enter the mortises of the blocks, and thus efiect a union between the shelf-sections and the rods to strengthen the rods and fasten the said sections firmly thereto.
The device can be readily taken apart for convenience in shipping or transportation in the following manner: Slide back the blocks on the rods when used, lift out the sections of the lower shelf pull out the pins of the rodsf when the said rods with the frames can be removed, allowing the upper shelf, D, to be withdrawn, pull out the rods E, and take off the legs.
Work-stands, toilet-stands,book-cases, and cases for other purposes can be made upon the same principle as our invention.
We are well aware that it is not new broadly to construct a stand for flower-pots, books, 850., in which a series of shelves, one above another, are arranged to rotate around a central stationary upright shaft or standard, nor do we claim such construction broadly; but
What we claim as our improvement, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is-- Theseparable flowerstand herein shown and described, composed of the upright shaft or standard having fixed annular offset or collar F, hub O, mortised to receive the removable short rods f, hub U, mortised to receive the removable long rods E, short rods f, long rods E, end posts, 0, brace-rods 6, posts (1, connected at their lower ends by the removable braces 6 tothe end posts, 6, and sectional shelves D D, the whole constructed and adapted to be taken apart, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that we claim the foregoing as our own,we have hereto affixed our signatures in presence of two witnesses.
EDWIN JOHNSON BONETT. THOMAS GILFILLAN. ALBERT WELLINGTON FLANDERS.
