Description
y 3, 1956 J. R. WEBB ERVICE STATION DISPLAY DEVICE Filed Jan. 25, 1952 00 0000 ooopykylgl United States Patent 2,752,710 SERVICE STATION DISPLAY DEVHIE John R. Webb, Wilmette, Ill., assignor to Standard Oil Company, Chicago, Ill., a corporation of Indiana Application January 25, 1952, Serial No. 268,309 1 Claim. (Cl. 49-125) This invention relates to a service station display device and more particularly to a price display sign havfluctuating prices have placed an undue line station attendants.
The present invention comprises a very simple display device by which the station attendant can readily display any possible price for his gasoline and at the same time not deface or injure his display frame or display plate.
The invention is illustrated in the drawings in which:
Figure 1 is a front elevation of a conventional frame;
Figure 2 is a similar view of the frame with a cardboard jacket thereover;
Figure 3 is a similar view of the frame with the price display placards in place; and
Figure 4 is a side elevation taken along the line 44 in Figure 3.
As shown in the drawings, the device comprises a yoke open at the top and having mounted therein a display plate 11 which is held in the yoke by the pins 12. Over the yoke is a jacket 13, normally of cardboard or the like and if of cardboard preferably weather-proofed or weather resistant. This jacket is preferably secured both to the plate 11 and the frame 10 by wires 14 extending through grommets 15 in the jacket and secured to the frame 10.
The jacket has marginal projections in its upper portion which extend laterally beyond the frame member. Within the upper portion defined by these projections are generally rectangular placard members 21, each bearing a single numeral. Preferably grommets 22 are provlded in each corner of the placard memtogether with corresponding aligned openings in one side only of the jacket. Cotter pins 23 or other readily removable fastening member may be used for this purpose. If a cotter pin is employed, it should be one which will readily spread on being inserted in the opening, inasmuch as the openings do not go through both sides of the cardboard.
The display kit comprises a complete series of numerals for each of the placards. That is, there are ten placards for each group, each placard bearing one numeral from 0 to 9. It is usually suficient, however, for the first placard to supply only the numerals l, 2 and 3.
Normally, the display placards will be mounted on both sides of the display frame so that the sign can been seen from either direction.
The area 25 below the placard area affords a space for advertising copy which can be secured thereto in any of the usual ways.
The foregoing detailed description has been given for clearness of understanding only and no unnecessary limitations should be understood therefrom, as modifications will be obvious to those skilled in the art.
I claim:
A gasoline service station display device comprising a metallic upright display frame having a central yoke member open at the top, a permanent display plate mounted within the frame, a T-shaped, weather resistant, envelope-like jacket, the vertical portion of said T-shaped mounted at least three members aligned side by of each side of said T-shaped mounting openings in each placard References Cited in the file of this patent UNITED STATES PATENTS
