1 Claim. (Cl. 219-20) My invention relates to an electrical heating unit designed for any and all heating purposes wherever required.
The object of my invention is to provide heating elements of any form, such as a hot plate, electric light bulb or an element covered by a ceramic material wherein a given degree of heat may be had for any occasion through the means of a power source (electric), a switch, a saturated transformer for increasing or decreasing the amperes flowing into the heating elements.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a saturated transformer having associated therewith a secondary coil wound so as to act together with the transformer in making it available to increase the voltage for heating elements in series.
A further object of my invention is to connect a series of heating elements in such a manner that the flow of current or the amperes flowing into these elements will be identical throughout the entire series when the increase of current is made.
A still further and important object of my invention is the provision of a heating unit wherein the heating elements may have sufiicient voltage applied thereto, for the use of the transformer which will force the required amperes through all of the units or heating elements whereby any required amount of heat can be obtained by simply increasing the flow of amperes to the heating elements.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, pointed out in the accompanying drawing, and claimed.
In the drawing,
Figure 1 is a top plan view of my electrical heating unit as made in accordance with this invention; and
Figure 2 is a side elevational view of my complete heating unit, partly broken away, to illustrate the water coils and the heating units.
The main purpose of this invention is to produce an electrical heating unit that will be more economical to operate, and it provides a means wherein any area can be heated Without the use of coal, oil, gas or the like, thus avoiding dirt, ash, gas or smoke, and providing a unit that is controlled through a push button or switch, wherein a given amount of radiated heat may be obtained at all times.
Applicant is well aware of heating plates, lamps and the like, but he is the first to provide a series of heating elements so connected and having interposed and connected therewith, a saturated transformer with a wound secondary coil, wherein the electric current can be controlled to increase the amperes in the heating element for the purpose of increasing or decreasing the radiated heat therefrom, as desired. It is to be understood that the heating elements are so arranged in series and connected when the current flows thereto, that no one of the series 2,752,474 Patented June 26, 1956 or all in the series will each have the same amount of current or amperes at all times, thus not putting the load on any one unit but spreading the load throughout the entire series, thereby increasing the life and longevity of the heating elements.
It is to be understood that applicant is not to be limited to any type of heating element. It can be in the form of a hot plate, or an electric light, or the type of element used in flat irons, or a ceramic covered structure, or it may be in the form of beads or tubes, or any element that will radiate heat, connected in series and arranged to receive a stepped-up amount of current, voltage or amperes, as the case may be.
In the drawing, the numeral 5 indicates a supporting stand on which are mounted a series of heating elements 6, each heating element provided with the usual heat radiating elements 7 therein, and are connected in series as at 8, and in turn the electric connection is in circuit with a transformer 9 and a secondary wound coil 10. Also in circuit is an electrical switch 11 having a dial face 12, and the purpose of this switch 11, by virtue of the transformer and Wound secondary coil, can step up the voltage of current coming from the power source 13 into the heating elements 6, thus increasing the amperes in each of these elements simultaneously, to the required amount of heat desired.
Surrounding these heating elements 6 is a coil 14 for the heating of water and the like, no claim being made to the particular type of coil used, it being understood that the structure is such that many rooms can be heated by virtue of the heating elements in series, or it could be used in connection with a hot air, hot water or steam plant, and that any type of heating coils for the purpose of heating water can be used, the principal portion of my invention being the heating units or elements in series wherein a given amount of current can be forced into these elements, and by the fact that they are connected in series and by virtue of the transformer and secondary wound coil the amperes in each of the heating elements can be increased through the medium of the switch. Thus, a complete unitary structure is provided for any and all types of heating purposes.
Applicants invention resides in a series of heating elements, a saturated transformer with a Wound secondary coil to function as a step-up transformer. This will make available and increase voltage for all of the elements in the series. The switch is provided in this circuit so that to turn on and increase voltage a little at a time the switch is moved over the dial and is so constructed as to vary the pull of the secondary coil, as needed.
It is to be understood that the inventor does not want to be limited to the fact that all of the heating elements receive a given amount of current simultaneously. It can be so arranged and a secondary switch provided and wired so that any one or any number of the elements may be operated with varied intensity. It has been the purpose of the present invention to operate all of the heating elements with varied intensity to control the heat rather than a few, which would necessarily shorten the life of those used more frequently.
Various changes may be resorted to, providing they fall within the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
I claim:
A unit of the class described, including a series of electrical heating elements, means for connecting the elements in series, a saturated transformer having a tapped secondary winding, means for connecting said series connected heating elements to said tapped winding and means I? for surrounding said heating elements by a sinuously 2,122,522 formed tubular element containing fluid or other medium 2,276,822 to be heated. 2,510,041 2,561,609
