Application October 29, 1951, Serial No. 253,708
2 Claims. (Cl. 214-147) This invention relates to material handling apparatus and has particular reference to a new and improved form of apparatus which may be mounted on a tractor or other vehicle and which apparatus may be employed for land clearing, stone moving, log handling, material moving, scarifying, picking up material, loading and bulldozing and numerous other uses of these general types.
An object of the invention is to provide a new and improved apparatus of the type set forth which may be easily and quickly adapted for various uses without any great amount of changes and which employs numerous elements of a tractor mounted loader.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of the type set for-th which is entirely hydraulicly operated.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of the type set forth which may be easily and quickiy adapted for use in scarifying or for loading material of various types.
Another object is to provide an apparatus of the type set forth with means for compensating for any changes in angular positions during the lifting of a load.
Another object is to provide a device of the type set forth wherein the clamp may be moved out of the way when not in use whereby it will not interfere with the operation of the scarifier or blade.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will be apparent from the following description taken in connection with the accompanyng drawings and it will be understood that changes may be made in the details of construction and arrangements of parts without departing from the scope of the invention as expressed in the accompanying claims.
Referring to the drawings:
Fig. 1 is a side view of an apparatus embodying the invention;
Fig. 2 is a view generally similar to Fig. l, but showing the apparatus in raised position;
Fig. 3 is a top or plan view thereof;
Fig. 4 is a front View thereof; and
Fig. 5 is a fragmentary perspective View showing the scarifier and claw in clamping position.
Referring more particularly to the drawings wherein similar reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout, the invention is shown mounted upon a track type tractor having the engine 10, tracks 11, counter weights 12 and operator seat 13.
On opposite sides of the tractor frame are provided the upright primary supports 14 which extend above the tractor at substantially the midpoints of the tractor and adjacent the upper end of each of the supports 14 are pivotally mounted the push arms 15 which are pivotally connected to said supports 14 at 16.
On the forward end of the push arms 15 is pivotally 2,748,961 Patented June 5, 1956 mounted the pusher member 17 or scarifier 18 which are pivotally connected to said push arms 15 at 19.
A pair of secondary supports 20 is provided in spaced relaton with push arms 15 and said supports 20 are connected at 21 to support 22 which is secured to push arm 15 and to which is pivotally connected at 23 the ram 24 which extends into cylnder 25 and which is pivotally connected at 26 to tractor frame 27 whereby said ram 24 and cylnder 25 may be employed to raise or lower the completed assembly which is carried by push arms 15 as a unit.
On the forward ends of support members 20 are pivotally connected at 28 the grab member or clamp member 29 and to said clamp member 29 is pivotally connected at 30 the ram 31 which extends into cylnder 32 which is pivotally connected at 33 to lug 34 on support members 20 for effecting pivotal movement of clamp member 29.
Also on support members 241 are the lugs 35 to which are pivotally connected at 36 the cylinders 37 in which extend the rams 38 which are pivotally connected at 39 to the lugs 40 on scarifier gathering member 18 or pusher gathering member 17 as the case may be and intended to eitect pivotal movement of said members for use in clamping material or Stones or logs or the iike between scarifier 18 or pusher member 17 and clamping member 29.
Rigdly connected to supports 20 are the links 41 and strap 42 for reinforcing the same. Said links 41 are detachably connected adjacent their free ends at 43 to lugs 44 on push arms 15.
The hydraulic system for Operating the device comprises the usual hydraulic pump, not shown, and which is operated by the tractor engine and Supplies fluid under pressure to control valve 45 which is adapted to be controlled by levers 46 to supply fluid through lines 47 and 48 to cylnder 32, and through lines 49 and 50 to cylnder 37 and through lines 51 and 52 to cylnder 25 for Operating said cylinders.
It will be noted that because of the arrangement of lever 41 between supports 20 and push arms 15 that as the mechanisn is raised, the pusher member 17 or scarifier 18 and clamping member 29 will be automatically leveled or equalized according to the height to which the mechanism is raised and to prevent dropping of the material and also to insure clamping thereof between the members.
Another feature of the invention is that with the constructon of the present invention a tractor mounted loader apparatus can be converted to the present device without a great deal of difficulty.
From the foregoing it will be seen that I have provided relatively simple, eficient and economical means for obtaining all of the ohjects and advantages of the invention,
I claim:
1. A tractor mounted gathering and loading device comprising a pair of primary support means rigidly secured to opposite sides of a tractor to provide an elevated mountng on each support, a push arm pivotally mounted on each said mounting and extending forwardly thereof to a point forward of the tractor, hydraulic cylnder means to pivot said push arms from a lower position with the forward ends adjacent the ground level to an upper position substantially above said elevated mountings, a maa terial gathering means rockably connected to said push arms, a secondary support rigidly Secured to and extending upward from each said push arm, hydraulic cylnder means to rock said gathering means on said push arms &748.961
from a forward position to a rearward scooping position, a clamp member p'ivote`d to the 'forward en of each said secondary supports, hydraulic cylinder means to pivot said clamp member forward to overlie said gathering means during lifting and to pivot said clamp means upwardly and rearwardly during scooping Operations.
2. The device of claim l'in which said hydraulic cylinder means topivot said clamp is mounted on said secondary support.
