CARRYING CASE Filed April 2:5, 1954 INVENTOR. ,HusZ'in MCrag i f 3 ATTD R N Evs United States Patent CARRYING CASE Austin McCray, Los Angeles, Calif.
Application April 23, 1954, Serial No. 425,201
2 Claims. (Cl. 132-83) This invention relates to a carrying case, and more particularly to a ladys carrying case for holding and carrying a plurality of different articles.
The object of the invention is to provide a ladys carrying case which includes an illumination means so that the interior of the case can be readily observed even at night.
Another object of the invention is to provide a carrying case which permits a plurality of different articles to be carried in a compact manner, the case including a carrying strap, a clasp for maintaining the cover connected to the base, albums movably mounted in the case, and compartments for holding cosmetics, coins, pencils and other useful articles.
A further object of the invention is to provide a ladys carrying case which is extremely simple and inexpensive to manufacture.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent during the course of the following description.
In the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this application, and in which like numerals are used to designate like part-s throughout the same:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the carrying case showing the cover in closed position.
Figure 2 is a perspective view showing the cover open.
Figure 3 is a longitudinal sectional view taken through the carrying case.
Figure 4 is a sectional view taken on the line 44 of Figure 3.
Referring in detail to the drawings, the numeral designates a base which can be made of any suitable material, and the base 10 includes a bottom wall 11 and spaced parallel side walls 12. Hingedly connected to the base 10 by means of a hinge 15 is a cover 14. A carrying strap 16 which may be made of leather or the like is connected to the cover 14 and the strap 16 facilitates the carrying of the case or bag by the woman or other user. The outside of the case may be decorated with suitable decorations such as the picture of a girl as shown in Figure 1. A clasp or latch 17 is provided for preventing accidental opening of the cover 14.
Positioned in the base 10 and extending between the side walls 12 and secured thereto is a partition 18 which defines a compartment. Positioned in this compartment is a plurality of support members 19 which are arranged in spaced parallel relation with respect to each other. The support members 19 are adapted to support therebetween coins of various denominations so that these coins are readily accessible. A plate 20 is positioned below the support members 19 and the plate 20 coacts with the bottom wall 11 to define a space 21 for holding folded bills or money.
Also arranged in the base 10 are partitions or wall members 22, 23, 24, and 25. These partitions define additional compartments 26, 27, 28, 29 and 30 which are adapted to hold various articles, cosmetics, and the like therein.
A hinge 32 connects a lid 31 to the base 10, and the lid 31 is adapted to close the previously named compartments when desired. A mirror 33 and albums 34 may be positioned in the case and may be hingedly mounted on the hinge 15.
An illumination means is provided for illuminating the carrying case when desired so that the interior of the case can be readily observed even at night. This illumination means comprises a battery 35 which is supported by clips 36 which are secured to the cover 14 by means of braces 37. A light bulb 38 has a reflector 39 arranged therearound, and a connecting member 40 has one end connected to the battery 35 while the other end of the connecting member 40 is arranged in engagement with a push button switch 41. Thus, by manually depressing the switch 41, an electrical circuit will be completed to the bulb 38 to cause electrical energy to flow from the battery 35 to the bulb to thereby energize the bulb so that the interior of the case can be readily observed.
From the foregoing it is apparent that there has been provided an illuminated carrying case for use by ladies and the like. In use the case can be carried by means of the flexible strap 16 and the clasp 17 will maintain the cover 14 closed on the base 10, until the user desires to open the cover to the position shown in Figure 2. Coins may be supported between the support members 19, and folded bills can be supported in the space 21. The mirror 33 can be used conveniently when applying makeup or cosmetics, and by manually depressing the button 41 the light bulb 38 will be actuated to illuminate the interior of the case.
A compartment can be used for carrying cigarettes, and the compartment 30 can be used for holding face powder or the like. Buttons, pins and similar articles can be carried in the compartment 29 and a toothbrush, fountain pen or eyebrow pencil can be carried in the compartment 27. A comb or fingernail file can be supported in the compartment 26 and suitable ridges or grooves may be provided to keep out dust or moisture from the interior of the case. The outside of the case may be etched or provided with suitable decorations so as to enhance the attractiveness of the device.
I claim:
1. A ladys carrying case comprising a base including a bottom wall and spaced parallel side walls extending from said bottom wall and secured thereto, a cover hingedly connected to said base, a carrying strap connected to said cover, a latch for preventing accidental opening of said cover, a plurality of clips secured to said cover, a battery supported by said clips, a light bulb mounted in said cover and connected to said battery, a first partition extending transversely between said side walls and defining a compartment, a plurality of spaced parallel support members positioned in said compartment for holding coins therebetween, a plurality of wall members positioned in said base and defining compartments therebetween, a lid hingedly connected to said base and mounted for movement into and out of closing relation with respect to said compartments, a mirror hingedly connected to said cover, and a plurality of albums hingedly mounted in said cover.
2. A ladys carrying case comprising a base including a bottom wall and side walls extending from said bottom wall and secured thereto, a cover hingedly connected to said base, a carrying strap connected to said cover, a plurality of clips secured to said cover, a battery supported by said clips, a light bulb mounted in said cover and connected to said battery, a first partition extending between said side walls and defining a compartment, a plurality of support members positioned in said compartment for holding coins therebetween, a plurality of wall members positioned in said base and defining compart- 3 4 mens therebetween, a lid hingedly connected to said base References Cited in the file of this patent and mounted for movement into and out of closing rela- UNITED STATES PATENTS tion with respect to said compartments, a mirror hingedly connected to said cover, and a plurality of albums hingedly mounted in said cover.
