This invention relates to the separation and washing of gases from crude oil.
An object of the invention is to provide simplified improvements in apparatus for the separation of gas from crude oil.
Another object of the invention is to provide improved apparatus of the character described whereby the separation of gas from crude oil may be accomplished in a substantially continuous operation.
More specific objects and advantages of the invention will appear and be brought out more fully in the following specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings wherein:

Referring more particularly to the drawings, I show a main separation tank Ill supported on a suitable framework 2 l, and a gas collector tank l2 suitably mounted above tank I and having a passage connection l3 therewith which extends into and through the top of tank [0.
A crude oil inlet pipe 14 leads through a valve l into the upper interior portion of tank it by pipe 18 which has a closed end H and a plurality of discharge slot openings it, as shown. A plurality of collector and deflector plates 20 are secured as by welding or otherwise to pipe [6 between slots 18, plates 20 being inclined, and each plate 20 has a parti-circular drip formation 2| adjacent but spaced from end wall 22 of tank 10. Plate formations 2| each have a parti circular notch or cut-out portion 23 by which the separation of the liquid crude oil is facilitated.
A pipe 24 extends through an end wall 25 of tank 10, and has a pick-up inlet 26 within tank I0 and above the bottom 2? thereof and leads through a valve 28 to an oil outlet pipe 30. Tank ID has an access opening 3| provided with a suitable closure 32, and a ball float 33 is secured to a lever 34 which has a bearing mounting 35 in closure 32, a suitable indicator 36 being operatively associated with lever 34.
Tank I2 is provided with a safety valve or plug 31 and a dome 38 to which is connected a gas discharge pipe 40 having a pressure indicator 4| which leads to a collector chamber 42. Chamber 42 is provided with a valved bleeder pipe 43. Chamber 42 has a gas discharge outlet 44 provided with a valve 45, and a by-pass pipe 46 leads from chamber 42 through a regulating valve 41 and connected to discharge outlet 44. A plurality of downwardly directed parti-circular deflectors and bafiies 4B are positioned across the opening of passage connection I3.
The operation of the invention should be apparent from the foregoing description. The gas laden crude oil is introduced through pipe I6 into tank I 0 and discharges therein through dis charge openings I8, and the liquid oil accumulates at a level indicated at 49 which is shown by indicator 36. Tank I0 is provided with a sludge discharge opening 50 and discharge pipe 5| provided with a valve 52. The gas which is freed within tank I0 is conducted through passage I3 into tank l2 and thence through pipe 40 and collector chamber 42 to the outlet 44, either directly or through by-pass 46. As the gas and oil mixture passes deflector plates 20, a considerable amount of oil is separated and collected thereon due to the reduction in speed of flow, and most of the gas and oil separation occurs in this portion of tank It). Whatever additional oil is carried with the gas through passage [3 is collected and separated by baflies 48, which oil is returned to the level 49.
Having described my invention what I claim is:
l. A gas washer as described, comprising in combination an elongated horizontal separating tank having a crude oil inlet, an oil outlet and a gas outlet, said inlet comprising a horizontal pipe extending into the tank a substantial distance and having a plurality of openings in the lower portion thereof, a plurality of inclined deflector plates; one below each of said openings and terminating adjacent a wall of the tank, the lower edges of said plates having flanged dispersion drip formations.
2. A gas washer as described, comprising in combination an elongated horizontal separating tank having a crude oil inlet, an oil outlet and a gas outlet, said inlet comprising a horizontal closed end pipe extending into the tank a substantial distance and having a plurality of openings in the lower portion thereof, a plurality of inclined deflector plates; one below each of said openings and terminating adjacent a wall of the tank, the lower edges of said plates having Number flanged dispersion drip formations. 1,513,354 3.
