PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE GREEN, OF TOYAH, TEXAS.
SPARK-ARRESTER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 263,169, dated August 22, 1882.
7 Application filed May 31,1882. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE GREEN, of Toyah, in the county of Pecos and State of Texas, have invented a new and Improved Spark-Arrester, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention consists of an inverted hollow cone suspended within a hollow and flaring receiver for the sparks, located in the upper and enlarged portion of the smoke-pipe, so as to deflect the sparks against a conical annular cover to the receiver, whereby the sparks are broken and thrown against an arrester located over the hollow cone, and by which the sparks are again broken and then thrown down through the cone, to be returned as before, and continued in that-course until extinguishedand broken suflici'ently to pass away with the smoke, as hereinafter fully described.
Reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the figures. Figure 1 is a sectional elevation of my improved spark-arrester, and Fig. 2 is a top view of the 4 same with a part of the top of the smoke-pipe removed.
A represents the point of the hollow and perforated cone B, suspended point downward in the flaring receiver 0, which is sup ported in the bulge D of the smoke-pipe by rods E. The receiver 0 has an annular conical top, F,-against which the sparks are deflected by the cone, so as to be broken thereon and at the same time be deflected by it over the top of cone B against the arrester G, having cavities H in the side, and being suitably formed to arrest and break the sparks and also to thrust them down into cone B, to be again taken up through space I by the blast, and be thereby projected against bottom F and arrester- G, to be repeatedly broken on partitions J to prevent the sparks from glancing off the sides.
This arrester is mounted on the rod K, extending up from the point A of the cone, and it rests on the braces L, which have their support on the top of the cone B. The cone is suspended from bottom F of the receiverG by rods M and keys N. The receiver 0 is also secured on rods E by keys 0, all so that the several parts may be readily detached when required for repairs or other purposes.
Having thus fullydescribed my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. The combination, in a smoke-pipe, of the inverted hollow cone A B, receiver G, top F, and arrester G, substantially as described.
. 2. The hollow inverted cone B, having solid point A and orifice I, in combination with flarin g receiver (J, substantially as. described.
3. The arrester G, having cavities H, in combination with top F of receiver 0, and hollow cone B, substantially as described.
4. The receiver 0, attached to pipe D by rods E, and the cone B, suspended from the top F of said receiver, substantially as described;
5. The arrester G, mounted on rod K of point A and resting on braces L, having support on cone B, substantially as described.
GEORGE GREEN.
