12 Claims.
My invention relates to lamp shade structures which are provided with translucent or transparent panels having certain advertising or informational indicia thereon; the instant application being a continuation-in-part application related to my co-pending patent application, designated Serial No. 171,893, filed July 3, 1950.
An important object of my invention is to provide a fluorescent illuminating lamp and lamp shade structure, provided with transparent or translucent panels on threesi-des thereof, namely, an end section and two side panel sections.
Another important object of my invention is to provide a device of the aforementioned character which is provided with side panels that are interchangeably attachable to, and removable from, the basic lamp shade structure.
A still further object of my invention i to provide a device of the aforementioned character, wherein the side panel elements are articulately positioned therein in varied angularly related adjustable positions, so as to afford varied intensity of illumination in an upward direction, in a downward direction, as well as sidewise directions.
A still further object of my invention is to provide in a device of th aforementioned character, fluorescent illuminating means.
A still further object of my invention is to provide in a device of the aforementioned character, multiple fluorescent illuminating means.
A still further object of my invention is to provide in a device of the aforementioned character, a simple construction for carrying out the above purposes, yet a structure which can be manufactured economically in quantity production.
Other objects, ancillary advantages and features inherent in my invention, will become apparent from reference to the accompanying drawings, bearing further elucidation in the ensuing description, wherein like symbols are used to designate like parts, and in which:
Fig. 1 is a front view of my invention showing a portion thereof broken away in order to move clearly depict the structural features thereof.
Fig. 2 is a fragmentary and enlarged perspective view showing the adjustable side panel elements secured removably to the main structure.
Fig. 3 is an end view of Fig. 1 showing the adjustable side panel elements in one of the adjusted positions.
Fig. 4 is a view similar to Fig. 3 showing another adjustment of the said side panel elements.
Fig. 5 is a view similar to Figs. 3 and 4 indicating still another position of adjustment for the said side panel elements.
Fig. 6 is a top view of a slight modification'of Fig. l.
Fig. 7 is a sectional view taken substantially on the lines 1-! of Fig. 6.
Fig. 8 is a fragmentary sectional view indicat-' ing the novel reflector means employed in association with multiple fluorescent illuminating means.
Fig. 9 is a fragmentary sectional view taken, substantially, on the lines 9-9 of Fig. 6.
Fig. 10 i a fragmentary sectional view taken, substantially, on the lines |ll-|0 of Fig. 9.
Referring to the various views, there are, as indicated, numerical designations, 3|, 39, 40, 46 and 48, which refer to the foregoing designated copending patent application mentioned hereinabove.
My invention is generally designated H and consists of end panels l2 one of which is provided with intermediate rib portions l3 and I4, and an opening l5 to act as a window for the transparent or translucent indicia carrying window H. The said end panels |2 are suitably secured together by tie rods or other suitabl constructions. At the center thereof is-mounted a fluorescent lamp 44 which is connected electrically in the conventional manner in order to furnish the illumination.
On the panels I! and on the side panels 2| and 22, to which are secured transparent window 23 carrying informational data or indicia, IE or Hi, the said panels also are removably secured and held in place in varied articulately angular adjustment confined between the end panels l2.
The end panels are provided With oblique open slots 20 in order to support the trunnio'ns 56 se cured to the side panels 22 which are suitably cut out to form window openings so that the light rays will emanate through the translucent or transparent windows 23.
There are two side panels. one designated 2| and one designated 22. Looking at Fig. 3 it will be noted that the adjustment of the panels 2| and 22 will afford rays of illumination confined within the ambits 32, directed upwardly a wider effusion of rays of light 35 downwardly, and an effusion of light rays emanating sidewise and designated 33 and 34.
The angular adjustment of the panels 2| and 22 is made possible by the supporting pins or trunnions 56 situated in the slots 20 on the end panels, and operating in concert with the angular stop pins l8 and |9.
In Fig. 4 is indicated an intermediate adjustment of the side panels 2| and 22 affording an equal range of illumination upwardly and downwardly as indicated by the light rays 36 and 58, and sidewise illumination as indicated by the light rays 31 and 38.
In Fig. 5 the maximum adjustment indicates that there is a narrower light ray emission at the bottom as shown by the rays 43, a wider dissemination of light as indicated by the light rays 51 at the top, and sidewise illumination indicated by the rays 4! and 42. The end frames are held in place by the duplex rib elements 24 and 25, each being reinforced by beaded formations 26 and provided with bent ends 29 which are secured to the end panels by virtue of screws or other similar fastenings designated 39.
Thus, in Figs. 1 through 5, the general structure of my invention is disclosed wherein a single fluorescent lamp 44 is mounted longitudinally and with its axis in coincidental relationship with the geometric axis of the shade structure H; electrical energy for the illumination being afforded by the customary and conventional mounting brackets 49 and the heater or starter struc ture 50, electrically connected and attached to an electrical source of supply not shown.
In Figs. 6 to inclusive, I show and disclose a slight modification of my invention wherein a multiple number of fluorescent lamps 45 and 59 are indicated, the same being mounted on brackets 4'! and 60' and provided with the conventional starter structure 6! as heretofore mentioned; the novel feature in this arrangement being the reflector structure generally designated 50 and. secured to the framework 21 and. 28 at the bottom by virtue of an intermediate and bent bracket 5| securing the reflector 50 in place by means of screw 52 or any other similar fastening.
The reflector structure has three reflecting facets or surfaces 53, 54 and 55 so that the joint illumination, or combined illumination, of fluorescent lamps 59 and 45 will cooperate to give greater illumination upwardly, downwardly, and sidewise as compared to the disclosure of the single fluorescent lamp structure embraced in Figs. 1 to 5 inclusive.
It will thus be seen that I have provided a lamp shade structure which will furnish varied illumination upwardly and downwardly, at the same time furnishing illumination sidewise; that by virtue of using transparent or translucent panels, the said lamp shade structure in addition to furnishing illumination, will also convey and attract attention by any advertising indicia placed thereon, or the indicia may be decorative or ornate when the shade is to be used in the home.
A still further advantage in my invention is resident in the adjustability of the panels or their interchangeability for conveyin informational data of a varied nature, and for articulately positioning the same to vary the intensity of illumination particularly with respect to upward and downward illumination.
While I have illustrated and described what I now regard as the preferred form of construction, it is to be understood that I expressly reserve the right to make all such changes or modifications as may fairly fall within the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus disclosed and revealed my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
